Good Representation 31 décembre 2008
Par Fred Rayworth - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
I've always thought of Lizzy Borden as a hair metal band, and if I were to guess it on appearances alone, that's exactly where they'd fall, at least from the album covers in the 80's. However, after listening to this album, burned from the original LP, I can't make up my mind whether they are hair metal or power metal. Usually, with hair metal, you have that damn snare drum sound, the wailing vocals, and the obligatory ballad which thankfully, are mostly absent here, even on the two studio cuts at the end.

I've never heard any of their other albums except for a random cut here and there, but I was curious enough to pick this LP up twenty years ago, though I think I only listened to it once and shelved it.

Nowadays, I've had time to listen to it in detail, and the first thing that struck me is how rowdy their audience was. That energy added to their performance and it came off pretty well.

At times, they remind me of Iron Maiden, yet at others, a random not-quite hair metal band. Overall, though, they put on a good show.

The songs that stuck out for me were Psychopath, American Metal, and Give 'Em The Axe.

Lizzy's vocals are powerful, and though he tends to wail a bit, he never quite goes over the line into annoying.

The guitar players blend well together and their shredding is a highlight.

Overall, this is probably the best representation of the band, and I like it. It is not quite power metal, and not quite hair metal, but somewhere in-between. Recommended.
The Proper Way To Hear Lizzy Borden 1 février 2006

All I can say is just that. This expertly executed live set from the band during it's early days is the perfect way to hear Lizzy Borden as they were intended to be heard. From song to song, there is more conviction in the performances, sturdier rhythmic attack & Lizzy's vocals are flawless. Highlights are "Flesheater", "Save Me" & "Psychopath"...but the real winner here is track #16.

One of the two studio cuts added at the concert's conclusion, "Dead Serious" is perhaps the most electrifying moment of the band's entire recorded body of work. The dynamics in this song are perfectly arranged & if the entire bridge following the guitar break doesn't floor you in it's unchained intensity, you must be dead. Don't believe me? This purchase is totally justifiable for this song alone. Buy it & find out for yourself...

Lizzy Borden is one of my absolute favorite metal bands and because of this, I felt a need to write. To begin with, spectacular doesn't even begin to sum up this recording. One of the most underrated metal bands in history, Lizzy Borden went all out for their fans and that determination and devotion is evident on the disc. Like the previous reviewer stated, they DO sound a bit like early Iron Maiden, but along with the brilliant technical guitar work and melodies, they manage to instill a darkly fun sense of gory glee with their horror film and pulp novel-like lyrics. I originally bought this on vinyl around 1988 and it sounded great then. On CD, it's an unbelievable live experience. It is a MUST for any member of the Lizzy Borden Axe Club and is a great primer for prospective ones.
KILLER OLD SKOOL MUSIC!! 31 juillet 1999

I was about 14 when I first heard this very album, and I still have the concert video of this show to this day. I am now 27. Anyway, I still like this album `cause it still hangs!! They sound like old Iron Maiden. And this live disc is definetly there best album...(almost hard to believe it's live!) It's flawless, especially for a live album! Killer guitar work, (along with everything else), jam it, your missin' out on a time piece... That has so far stood the test of time!!! This is the most known album by any Lizzy Borden fan. And by the way, Live and let Die is 100% better than GnR's version, and Lizzy Borden did it first, long ago!
A cool live album. 19 mai 2000

This is a pretty enjoyable live album from Lizzy Borden. Their energy is just as good live as it is in the studio. My favorite songs from this collection are "Give 'Em the Axe" and "American Metal." The two songs that they recorded in the studio, "Dead Serious (Wake Up)" and "Time to Die," are okay. The rest of the live songs aren't bad either. Worth a listen.
