Présentation de l'éditeur

This fully updated version of My Boy documents the story of rock Legend Philip Lynott. Written by the woman who knew him best - his mother Philomena - the book charts the heady days of Thin Lizzy and the tragic chain of events which ended her son's life and plunged her into a fierce depression from which she only slowly recovered. Also included in this updated edition are interviews with the brother and sister Philip never knew he had.

Biographie de l'auteur

Philomena Lynott was born in Dublin in 1930. When her rock star son Philip Lynott died in 1986 the tragic news reverberated across the globe, catapulting Philomena into the media spotlight. But Philomena grieved with remarkable grace and courage despite the intense public pressure. In 1995 she revealed the most intimate details of her life with Philip in the first edition of the book My Boy, written with Jackie Hayden, and which reached number one in the bookseller lists. The book was to have a deep impact on aspects of her life that she was not able to reveal in that first book, but which she has now confronted at the grand young age of 80.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 An amazing story about an amazing man 23 mai 2002
Par Un client - Publié sur Amazon.com
My Boy is the story of Philip Lynott as told by the mother who brought him into the world and who was at his side during the final days of his life.
But it is also Philomena Lynott's own story, from the difficult days as a single mother struggling to bring up a young black child in Manchester and Dublin, through the heady success of Thin Lizzy, to the tragic chain of events which ended her son's life and plunged her into a fierce depression from which she only slowly recovered.
Illustrated with many previously unpublished photographs from the Lynott family albums, My Boy is an intimate portrait of one of Ireland's greatest rock stars. It is, by turns, moving, celebratory and painful - but always fiercely honest.
Bravely, My Boy goes beyond any clichéd tale of sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll. The story of Philip and Philomena Lynott was much more than that. Because, in the end, My Boy is a love story like no other.

Great read, great photos, unbelievable story! I have been hooked on Thin Lizzy (and this Phil Lynott) since I picked up their greatest hit tape in Spain on a lark, so this is a biased review. Having said that, I can not see how a better book can ever be published on Phil. Consider the source..., his mother. That is not to say she goes easy on her son, his considerable vices are not ignored. But they are not played up to sell books either. This book gives Lynott & Lizzy fans real insight on Phil and how his personality and character developed. A great read, which I hear is being turned into a movie.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Mother's Story 27 août 2003
Par Gearoid Fogarty - Publié sur Amazon.com
My Boy is Philomena Lynott's personal account of the life and death of her only child- legendary rocker Phil Lynott.
Aside from being a story about triumph, Phil's rise from being an illigitimate black boy in catholic Dublin during the 1950's to being leader of the world renowned rock band Thin Lizzy, it is also an account of a mother's love for, and tragic loss of, her only child.
Philomena Lynott wrote this book as if she were speaking to you personally, giving an honest, bones and all, account of her son's life.
Her account of his death through heroine addiction is one of the most poignant and heart wrenching stories I have ever read.
The book leaves one with the mixed emotions of joy and sadness but I would thoroughly recommend this book to any music fan.

My Boy--The Phil Lynott Story gets close to the background that made such a unique figure. Written by his mother Philomena, it's the frequently heartbreaking story of an unmarried woman fighting to bring up a black boy in a white, Irish-Catholic community, and the pain of knowing that her only son was heading for a self-abusive cliff edge without being able to stop him.

This is a must for any Thin Lizzy fan. When I got it in the mail, I could not put it down. I finished reading it one night! It takes you through the humble beginnings of Philomena and Philip Lynott. My God it was quite a challenge for both of them. Thank God Philomena and Philip had an amazing family who got them through the difficult times. I was amazed at how determined Phil was at achieving his goal at making Thin Lizzy a success. He inspired me to follow my dream of being an actress. Eventhough Phil was so talented he was also human and fell prey to drugs. I appreciated this book's honesty in dealing with the problems he had.
I will always be his bigest fan in Chicago!
