Revue de presse

“I defy anyone to read this surprisingly useful book and not come away from it madly in love with Harto, hoping against hope that one day she will turn up, with alcohol and honesty and a heaped pile of humor, in your kitchen too.” (Neil Gaiman, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Ocean at the End of the Lane)

“Hannah Hart is one of the smartest, funniest humans I know. She has done more than write a book-she has created a delightful hang-out in literary form. This book is my only friend now.” (Chris Hardwick, founder and CEO of Nerdist Industries)

“Hannah’s writing is like cold, leftover fried rice for breakfast: unusual, cultural, and overall . . . really f-ing good.” (Grace Helbig, author of Grace's Guide and creator and star of YouTube's It's Grace)

“Maybe cooking isn’t about creating culinarily perfect flavor art—maybe cooking is just part of living a life that you enjoy and that makes the world suck less. I’m not saying Hannah’s food isn’t good, but her ideas are butter...ahem...better.” (Hank Green, Vlogbrother)

Présentation de l'éditeur

One day, sad cubicle dweller and otherwise bored New York transplant Hannah Hart decided, as a joke, to make a fake cooking show for her friend back in California. She turned on the camera, pulled out some bread and cheese, and then, as one does, started drinking. (Doesn't everyone cook with a spoon in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other?) The video went viral and an online sensation was born.

My Drunk Kitchen includes recipes, stories, full color photos, and drawings to inspire your own culinary adventures in tipsy cooking. It is also a showcase for Hannah Hart's great comedic voice. Hannah offers key drink recommendations, cooking tips (like, remember to turn the oven off when you go to bed) and shares never-before-seen recipes such as:

  • The Hartwich (Knowledge is ingenuity! Learn from the past!)
  • Can Bake (Inventing things is hard! You don't have to start from scratch!)
  • Latke Shotkas (Plan ahead to avoid a night of dread!)
  • Tiny Sandwiches (Size doesn't matter! Aim to satisfy.)
  • Saltine Nachos (It's not about resources! It's about being resourceful.)

This is a book for anyone who believes they have what it takes to make a soufflé for the holiday party and show up the person who apparently has nothing better to do than bake things from scratch. It also recommends the drink you'll need to accompany any endeavor of this magnitude. In the end, My Drunk Kitchen may not be your go-to guide for your next dinner party . . . but it will make you laugh and drink . . . I mean think . . . about life.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Bring a bottle, bring a friend, bring another bottle: expect a good time with lots of laughs. 12 août 2014
Par Ryan J. Dejonghe - Publié sur Amazon.com
If you are looking for a serious, step-by-step cookbook: turn around now. If you are looking for light-hearted fun, lots of joking around, and insights on friendship: buy this book now.

For the uninitiated, Hannah Hart began her rise to kitchen stardom with the famously slurred words, “Hello, welcome to my drunk kitchen.” We learned—while things were being dropped, burnt, and forgotten—how to make grilled cheese. But not just grilled cheese: grilled cheese with humor, fun, and entertainment.

Since then, Hannah has attracted millions of viewers, partnered with drunk celebrities, and raised money for charity. Now she has a book.

The question is, does the same fun cross over into book form? Yes! A thousand times yes. The book has lots of off-shoot narratives written by Hannah about the joys of friendship and having fun, all organized in neat categories around her food creations. There are tons and tons of full-color pictures with it all, plus cute comedic drawings and quotes. Every idea is followed by one of Hannah’s Life Lessons.

For instance, one “recipe” in this book is Hannah’s Pizzadilla. Ingredients are: tortillas, marinara sauce, cheese, and “tissues for everyone who starts to cry tears of joy when you bring this out to serve.” The instructions basically say “cook until edible” in the oven, and there are five pictures of Hannah cooking this stove-top. You’ll get the idea of how it blends together, and maybe you’ll try it, maybe you’ll come up with something different, but ultimately you’ll laugh and enjoy the experience. (Hint: this is a great book to flip through with a friend next to you.)

Sometimes Hannah advocates getting frozen snacks from Trader Joe’s, sometimes you won’t even know what she’s mixing together (such as the one where she’s supposedly ‘high’), and other times it is pretty cut and dry with what you have on hand. Every list of ingredients starts with Words of Wisdom and a suggested opening cocktail.

Here’s a quote from Hannah, “Pro Tip: To learn more about things, read books or use the Internet.” Okay, maybe you had to be there. Okay, maybe I should start a thing where I review books while drunk. Or not. We’ll see.

Here’s a quote she included from someone famous, “Drink because you are happy, but never because you are miserable.” G.K. Chesterton said that in Heretics.

Bottom line: go into this having fun. You may learn some handy kitchen ideas (I sure did..yum, yum!), but you’ll definitely walk away smiling.

By the way, thanks !t books for sending this to me for review. The book is GORGEOUS: hard bound, lots and lots of colors and pictures. This is something to experience with others. Oh, and this will be the last book printed under the name !t books: they’re now going to be called Dey Street Book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fantastic book! 13 août 2014
Par Hannah - Publié sur Amazon.com
As an unashamedly obsessive fan of Hannah Hart since the early days of her YouTube series “My Drunk Kitchen”, words can not express how much I enjoyed this book!! I scheduled myself to work from home on the release day so I could be sure to be at my door when it arrived in the mail. I cracked it open to read the intro & ended up taking a long lunch break as I couldn’t help but read it cover to cover. If you enjoy Hannah’s videos, you’ll love this book! It’s a wonderful mix of humor, thought-provoking food analogies, and even some insights into Hannah’s own life.

As a 23-year old human, I also find the book fantastic! I laughed out loud every other page and was prompted to thinking about a lot of things, including but not limited to: compassion, adulthood, insecurities, family, and love. I’m setting this book on the coffee table in my living room, and I already know that picking it up and flipping to a random recipe will be my new go to pick-me-up when I’m having a rough day. It’s just that delightful.

And a final note about the content: There are 4 different sections that each lead with a brief parody self-help essay, and the bulk of the book is recipes. The recipes each start with a quote and end with a life lesson. The recipes themselves are all over the place. A handful of them are obviously more metaphorical than intended for actual implementation, some look absolutely delicious, and the majority seem to fall between those two extremes. All are quirky & funny & surprisingly uplifting.

Loved all parts of it. Not just a semi cookbook, but stories and advice to help you be an adult but not really. :-)

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Who needs food when you have fun? 7 septembre 2014
Par River City Reading - Publié sur Amazon.com
If Hannah’s hands in the nachos and the smiling bananas on the cover didn’t give it away, this isn’t your average cookbook. You might want to keep browsing if you’re looking for precise measurements, fresh ingredients or…anything edible, really. So, what’s the point of a cookbook with food no one wants to eat?

Each of Hannah’s questionable recipes tells a story, which is where the “going with your gut” part of the book’s title comes from. In the same great tone as her off the wall videos, Hart helps readers navigate the world she’s dubbed Adultolescence, or the “secondary pubescence that takes place throughout your twenties and sometimes well into your thirties”. The book hits on life lessons spanning from family holidays and coming out to break-ups and the perils of post-twenty five metabolism. Honest and consistently funny, My Drunk Kitchen is like a good (drunken) night in with a great friend.

To top it all off, there are Adult Lunchables. On waffle chips. With “maybe a pimento olive or something classy to show that you’re a grown-up now”. And who can resist that?
