Présentation de l'éditeur

Latest and most "extensive" book on all-time greats available! This all-in-one "revised" edition book of basketball is a great statistical and factual reference with outstanding player descriptions, analysis and skill sets. Also included in the paperback, is a handy one-page chart (over 450 entries) of the greatest players of all-time individual scoring, rebounding, assist, steals and block titles, key second place finishes, and awards and honors! To begin (If you are a big-time basketball fan and like objective-facts and numbers, this resource is like a mini encyclopedia in the palm of your hands) After you read the description, and the first few pages on Amazon's preview (Look Inside!), make sure to click Surprise me! - to get a true glimpse of what this book is all about - better yet, click on Search Inside this book and punch in your favorite player! And that includes you too, Skip Bayless from ESPN's First Take. So far at the end of August, a panel of experts (so to speak) on the show have been giving their selections for Top 3 Greatest Players of All-Time soon after LeBron James publicly announced his. He chose, of course Michael Jordan, and then Dr. J & Larry Bird - followed by Magic Johnson after he was asked to name a fourth. And then more recently, current and past players were giving their Mount Rushmore picks (Top 4) with assortment of mixed opinions. LeBron gave his in a more serious interview during the 2014 All-Star break when he then chose Jordan, Magic, Bird, and then Oscar Robertson! Hard to argue with those picks. Well, also, this is partly what this new 2013 release is all about, ranking the greatest players of all-time. LeBron himself would be amazed of what is written about him as a player. In addition, every chapter on every player has an awesome and unmatched description of his attributes an very own skill set! This book is a must have for all basketball fans. It contains hardcore facts and stats of The NBA's 50 Greatest Players of All-Time (rankings of Magic, Bird, Jordan, Wilt, Russell, Oscar, Dream and the rest of the greats of the game- find out who's in the top 10?) with exclusive projected rankings of seven current players? As they approach their primes and where they might end up in the Elite Rankings of All-Time! On the cover of the book and on its first page title, instead of changing the subtitle from projected pick six?, to a projected super seven! I have decided to keep both subtitles. Within the 57 chapter player rankings, there is also an additional 50 plus players written about exclusively and extensively including Kevin Love in Blake Griffin’s chapter as potentially becoming the greatest power forward of the current era. In the player comparisons throughout, it distinguishes which players are better than others from an objective point of view- which in turn allows you to judge for yourselves! For example: Is Wilt Chamberlain better than Bill Russell or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar? Is Magic Johnson better than Larry Bird? Is Kobe Bryant better than Jerry West? Is Tim Duncan better than Karl Malone? Is John Stockton better than Isaih Thomas? Also listed is an All-Time NBA First Team, Second Team, and Third Team based on projected rankings. The book is filled with player introductions including a mini-biography, player opinions from past and current great players, player attributes and skill sets, records and individual accolades, award and honors, player rankings and player comparisons throughout, and a player’s chronological history year by year with interceding player evaluations of the NBA’s elite and players outside the top 50. The book was completed at near 200,000 words. And finally the most interesting part of this book, is that I have created a one-of-a-kind chart (as mentioned above) for individual accolades, honors and awards of the 50 greatest basketball players of all-time!

Biographie de l'auteur

Johnny Osaki - I have worked in light industrial and this past few years with my family business, Inspirational Family Books. I have also just completed this book on NBA basketball that I had been working on for about 3 years now. The project was an enormous one for me because I have never considered myself a skilled writer by any stretch of the imagination- like Bill Simmons who has his own website, his own book (The Book of Basketball- in which I have read over and over and over again), and has written countless articles for ESPN.com over the year- plus, he wrote for Jimmy Kimmel at one time or another! However, I do believe my passion and expertise for NBA basketball is to his equal because I have been following the sport exclusively for the past few decades. I have always had an extreme passion to watch NBA basketball outside of work for most of my entire life, to where you could almost call it an obsession. The bulk of this book is based a great deal on facts and stats backed by numerous opinions of current and past NBA players. Because of Create Space.com and Amazon, I now know it is possible to reach my dream of putting my basketball knowledge on paper!

What's up with Kobe 8 janvier 2014

This is a really good book because it is so informative and yet so easy to read. It's more of a NBA reference guide than a book, which is awesome. You don't have to read it front to back, you can just go to a chapter or player that you want to read about, and there you will find every important career statistic you need to know, along with tons of interesting tidbits. I really enjoyed reading and learning about all of the great players of the past like Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, and Bob Cousy, who I have never had an opportunity to see play but after reading about them and their stats I really appreciate why they are viewed as some of the greatest players ever to play the game. Also, included in each players chapter is a section that compares similar players, even those from different era's. The player comparison sections allow you to decide for yourself who the greatest players of all time are. The only beef I have with this book is poor ranking Kobe Bryant received. I think he deserves a higher ranking but after comparing Kobe's stats and accolades with those ranked above him, it has become hard to objectively argue that he should be ranked higher. So If you are just learning about the NBA or are a hardcore fan, this is one of the best resources to have.

Great book with lots of evidence to back up rankings 18 septembre 2014

This is a great basketball book, similar yet different than Bill Simmon's rankings. The author makes a valid case for Wilt vs Russell, and actually diverges from traditional rankings by putting Bob Pettit higher than Karl Malone and Rick Barry higher than Julius Erving. Actually in this book, Barry and Baylor outrank Kobe, which can be justified. I personally think Kobe is way overrated and Barry/Baylor/Pettit are very underrated for what they accomplished ,especially stat wise.

How can you say that Kobe, a 25/5/5 player is greater than a 27/14 player (Baylor) or a 27/6/7 (West) player? Erving and Barry are close, but I think Barry is better. Put Barry on Ervings teams and they would win titles. Put Dr J on Barry's teams ... I'm not so sure. And Pettit's 26/16 career stat line is just amazing, its sad that no one brings his names up anymore yet brings up Garnett and Barkley often.

Oh also I gave it 4 stars, because the author makes a lot of spelling errors especially in regards to people's names.

a must read 10 octobre 2013

Despite the two comments from the previous reviews, the book in it self- with all the information on NBA Basketball (57 chapters including over a 100 player written about extensively), and the worthy player descriptions, comparisons, and especially the "chart" in the back of the book is worth the 18 dollars. Where else can you buy a 2013 book on the NBA for that price? Regardless of who the Author is, for what ever reason he put Hank Aaron (in which this a basketball book- he also named 19 other players to help prove his "point" that you don't have necessarily have to win a championship to be great) on the list of sports players who never won a championship, maybe he meant to put Aaron in the "very next sentence"with players who have won only one championship! He also could have simply put parenthesis around (NBA) after Julius Erving's name! And furthermore, even with a few dis-facts, the magnitude of the information in this book at nearly 200,000 words almost certainly out weighs the comments. And for me personally, for the most part, I don't necessarily have to search the internet or check out other NBA books to find all this information!

Great reading, player descriptions and analysis! 21 décembre 2013

This book is just like what the author presents: My copy is an updated edition, ranking the greatest NBA players of All-time based heavily on objective statistics, facts, and player opinions on past and present great players of the game! The book has outstanding player descriptions of one's attributes & skill set, player comparisons, mini-biographies, and a chronological history of the greatest players to have played this game. It also has over a hundred players written about exclusively with an additional chart of individual accolades of the Top 50 players of all-time, along with the projected rankings. Also, there are intriguing player comparisons at every position: at center between Chamberlain, Russell, and Kareem - Olajuwon and Robinson; at power forward between Pettit, Malone, Barkley, Garnett, and Duncan; at the small forward position with Elgin Baylor, Rick Barry, and Larry Bird; shooting guard with Jordan, West, Kobe, and Wade; and point guard with Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson. At the end of the book, their are great chapters on 7 players projected in the Top 50 or that could eventually make it into the Top 50 player rankings of all time: LeBron, Wade, Paul, Durant, Rose, Howard, and Griffin.

Worst NBA book ever 17 juillet 2015
Par Duluc - Publié sur Amazon.com

This is the worst book I ever attempted to read about basketball. Guy calls Shaq "Shaquille O'Neil" and Bob Pettit "Pettite". This tells you a lot about his knowledge of NBA history. The book is full of mistakes, obviously nobody checked it before he was published. Maybe not even the author. Rankings are stupid (Rick Barry is #12 and Steve Nash #21), and mostly explained by "hey, I checked stats on basketball-reference !". Can't believe I paid for that.
