Acclaim for James Patterson

"I can't believe how good Patterson is, whether he's doing a Washington police yarn or traveling a different road with a female narrator. He is always on the mark. I have never begun a Patterson book and been able to put it down."―Larry King, USA Today,

"You just can't beat James Patterson when it comes to suspense. He's the king...make that the emperor of contemporary suspense fiction."―Rebeccareads.com

"America's #1 storyteller."―Forbes

"Patterson knows how to keep the pages turning."―David Lazarus, San Francisco Chronicle

5.0 étoiles sur 5 "CLEVER, EXPLOSIVE ACTION, INTENSE SUSPENSE!" 9 octobre 2012
Par Author/Reviewer Geri Ahearn - Publié sur Amazon.com
New York Times Best-selling author James Patterson delivers another thrilling winner, and I'm not the least bit surprised as this page-turner aims to please! Patterson takes the reader on a breathtaking trip to New York City, Hollywood on the Hudson. A picture-perfect setting I can imagine, after living in New York 45 years. We are watching the glitter and glamour of Hollywood's beautiful faces, hearing the excitement of movie stars as they arrive in limos, while the red carpet rolls out. Thousands of anxious fans gather as the paparazzi catches stunning and beautiful moments of the most famous in the world. One could hear the laughter in the background, and visualize the amazing events taking place as New York's finest and most exclusive restaurants are only open for private parties for the wealthy producers and directors. An evening for the elite, which is amazing, knowing that over 10 million people reside in New York City. Special Task Force, NYPD Red, is on a high alert to cover this incredible event, knowing they cannot afford any mistakes as the entire world is watching. Suddenly, all hell breaks loose as a famous producer fatally collapses, and the curtains are drawn as the horror show begins. Detective Zach Jordan, and his partner Kylie MacDonald, begin the investigation, and they both know it cannot be messy as they try to avoid errors. However, at least Zach and Kylie know each other well enough, and both are experts at crime scenes and police work, but what kind of danger will they face? As the murder is being investigated, brutal and horrific crimes are about to send New York into total chaos. Are they able to stop a psychopath in his terrifying tracks, before it's too late? A deranged killer has a nightmare planned in detail, who will survive? "NYPD RED" is as thrilling as KISS THE GIRLS, and as entertaining as ALONG CAME A SPIDER. Highly Recommended to thriller lovers!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Easy read but predictable. 9 octobre 2012

Patterson presents Detective Zach Jordan - a member of the NYPD Red squad. This unit is tasked to protecting the glitterati - celebrities from screen, stage and sports and anyone else rich enough to deserve special treatment. His partner has recently been injured on the job and he is 'temporarily' partnered with Kylie McDonald. McDonald attended the academy with Jordan and is drop dead gorgeous - and they were once an item. But she is now happily married, to a Hollywood screenwriter.

New York is hosting 'Hollywood on the Hudson' - an attempt to lure directors, producers and their minions to New York to make movies. NYPD Red will be stretched thin to protect the stars that have descended on Manhattan. And from the opening scene there is a body - a much despised producer ends up dead over breakfast.

The two Red unit detectives chase a killer, a killer that wants the front page and to destroy New York's 'best foot forward' attempt to lure the stars. At the same time Jordan tries to quash his attraction to his partner and start a relationship with someone else.

Clearly the first salvo in a series - just okay. Short, an easy read but predictable from page one.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Murderous Fun! 19 octobre 2012

Murderous Fun!

When was the last time you laughed your way through a murder mystery? Oh I know there are several hours of fun and laughter while solving the weekly murder on TV, but never before, that I can remember,(and I would remember!) have I come across an author that could keep me glued to over 500 pages of fun and mayhem. Mayhem yes, there are several, but add fun.........not any until now.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I've wondered about the writers that James Patterson collaborates with, but never before 'NYPD Red' have I ever bothered to do more than give any of them that passing thought. Something about this book made me look further into his writing partner, Marshall Karp. His bio sent me back to the Internet to look for his first book 'The Rabbit Factory'. The $2.99 price tag made downloading it to my e-reader a no brainer. The first page made me a fan! After a marathon read, I went looking for the hard covers of all four of his 'Lomax & Biggs' books. I was only able to find the last two, but was able to download all four. Now I just have to try to contain myself until he releases #5.

As mystery readers, I know that you all know the thrill of finding a new writer...well, Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah......here he is... [...]

As for NYPD RED, let's hope this becomes JP's next series! It belongs up there with Alex Cross and The Murder Club and Michael Bennett and Privat. I'm so glad that work is already started on #2, I just hope that we won't have to wait a year for it to hit the book shelves!

In NYPD Red, Marshall Karp does the impossible: out-does himself! NYPD Red is his best offering yet. Although I am a huge fan of his Lomax and Biggs novels, I am now the president of the Zach Jordan fan club. The book is terrific and moves along at an incredibly fun pace. The dialogue is whip smart and the procedural aspects are so very interesting! You won't be able to put this book down once you start it!!!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Action-packed start to a great new series! 20 octobre 2012
Par Scott Coffman - Publié sur Amazon.com
Last year's "Kill Me If You Can" -- with its stunning you'll-never-see-it-coming twist -- marked a most auspicious debut for James Patterson and Marshall Karp as a writing team. Each author has proven his chops, Karp with the winning Lomax & Biggs series and Patterson with, well, nearly everything. Together they reach new heights.

NYPD Red is a Manhattan task force set up to protect the town's A-listers. This includes all the movie and TV big wigs in town for the mayor's Hollywood on the Hudson week. Every production that moves from California to New York means millions in revenue, and the city powers intend to make the Hollywood gang feel more hoity toity than hoi polloi.

One challenge with a new series like this is introducing characters and quickly making the reader care; this has long been a Patterson strength, both with and without a coauthor. This time our cheer-worthy cast includes Detective Zach Jordan, whose new temporary partner, Kylie MacDonald-Harrington, also happens to be an old flame for whom he still pines. Kylie's husband, Spence Harrington, is a television producer in New York City. Also on hand is department shrink Cheryl Robinson, a recently-divorced friend of Zach's, and overseeing it all is tough, no-nonsense Captain Delia Cates. Each of these fully-drawn folks is a winner, made indelible by deft writing. It really is a wonder of economy.

Of course, no book in this genre would be worth its salt without a memorable antagonist with a twisted plan, and "Red" has a doozy. Our villain in Gabriel Benoit, a background extra who works in New York productions, silently filling in the background, never quite enough to be in the foreground. Until now, as he decides. You see, Gabriel is quite mad. With the assistance of his equally whacko girlfriend, Lexi, he has written a script of his own, which he is filming in his head. Included in the script are the deaths of many of the Hollywood types who sees as having done wrong, each death more shocking than the last, leading up to a really spectacular, blockbuster ending.

The plotting and pacing are spot-on. Patterson and Karp lead us across a metaphorical high wire over shark-infested waters with chum taped to our ankles, keeping the tension high by swinging the wire back and forth as we cross. It is bravura storytelling, a grand example of the best the genre has to offer. More! More!
