Présentation de l'éditeur

This book is not a standalone. It is the sequel to ‘Neanderthal Seeks Human,’ it is book #1.5 in the ‘Knitting in the City’ series, and it is a full length, 105k word novel.

There are three things you should know about Quinn Sullivan: 1) He is madly in love with Janie Morris, 2) He’s not above playing dirty to get what (or who) he wants, and 3) He doesn’t know how to knit.

After just five months of dating Janie, Quinn—former Wendell and unapologetic autocrat—is ready to propose marriage. In fact, he’s more than ready. If it were up to Quinn, he would efficiently propose, marry, and beget Janie with child all in the same day—thereby avoiding the drama and angst that accompanies the four stages of pre-matrimony: engagement, meeting the parents, bachelor/bachelorette party, and overblown, superfluous wedding day traditions. But Janie, much to Quinn’s dismay, tosses a wrench in his efficacious endeavors and challenges him to prove his devotion by going through the matrimonial motions, no matter how minute and mundane.

Will Quinn last until the wedding day? Or will he yield to his tyrant impulses?

Regardless, one thing is for certain, Quinn Sullivan will have to learn to expect the Spanish Inquisition (i.e. the unexpected) if he plans to have and keep Janie Morris as his wife.

Again, you must read ‘Neanderthal Seeks Human’ first before reading this book.

This book is written in first person, alternating POV (Janie Morris AND Quinn Sullivan; but more Janie than Quinn)

5.0 étoiles sur 5 I'd give it 10 Stars if I could! 15 juin 2014

I wish I could give this 10 stars. Seriously. I finished Neanderthal Marries Human (NMH) with a happy, goofy grin on my face. I am completely in love with this book. The uncontainable love and the ooey-gooey feels in my heart overflow and runneth over for Penny Reid's amazing writing and characters.

If you are a fan of Janie and Quinn, then this is an absolute must-read for you. And you must read Neanderthal Seeks Human (NSH) first. Or in my case, re-read it, because you loved it so much the first time. Now, I am also glad that I read Friends Without Benefits (FWoB), book 2, beforehand, because the couple from that book make their own special appearance in NMH. FWoB is not a required read before diving into NMH, but I'm just letting you know that there is a bit more to the series that is tied into NMH.

While NSH is the story of how Janie and Quinn fall in love, and all the hijinks that they deal with along the way, I'd say NMH is truly the depth of their love story. We get the full force of their love for each other here. While their attraction and relational draw is obvious in NSH, here we get layer upon layer of what will make their relationship go the distance. I'd say the word that kept coming to mind while reading was the word "tender." There was this beautiful, breathtaking, enveloping tenderness between Janie and Quinn that exceeded anything they had beforehand. I could feel the love coming off of the pages. Plus we get the POV of both Janie and Quinn, and it made their story and the meaning behind their actions and their love that much richer for it.

Penny Reid was somehow able to nail every emotion and feeling and express exactly how I would imagine Janie and Quinn to handle embracing marriage. And this was not a straight-forward engagement to wedding ceremony book. Reid managed to throw several curveballs in there, twisting and turning things just as Janie's funny, brainy mind would think things, taking Quinn places he'd never dreamed, and making the story so much more than I could have imagined. I won't spoil what happens, but it's really brilliant how everything came together. I knew I would laugh, And laugh I did! I knew I would be impressed by Janie's sheer genius. And impressed I was! But I was not expecting the tears and the raw emotion. I was not expecting to be moved by so many touching, tender moments. I was not expecting such beautiful depths. And I loved every moment of it!

I cannot recommend this book enough! I am a huge Penny Reid fan, have loved all her books, but this one is now at the top of the list. It was funny and quirky, had hijinks and off-the-wall situations, brought all the girls (and guys) together in all their wacky glory, but also demonstrated the depths of love between these characters (major and minor), highlighted their tender moments without being cheesy, and embraced Quinn and Janie's unique relationship and why they are perfect for one another. I love the entire Knitting in the City series and cannot wait to read the rest of the stories about all the girls. And Quinn and Janie will always hold the spot as King and Queen of the crew.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Gift To Romance Fans 21 juin 2014

Neanderthal Marries Human (NMH) will make you proud to proclaim "I REID ROMANCE!" Fresh and brilliant, NMH is the best and most satisfying sequel/continuation of a contemporary love story I have read to-date. It is a beautiful, well-crafted gift from an original, young and wildly talented writer to her growing leagues of devoted fans. Like the most valued presents, it is exactly what we didn't know we needed, but now can't live without. Expect the unexpected, but DO NOT FEAR. Happily ever after just keeps getting better!

Five things you should know before you read NMH (and I'm skipping a synopsis and hopefully what so many reviewers have already said):

1. I totally envy you if you haven't read Neanderthal Seeks Human (NSH) yet! You are in for a fantastic, romance readers' treat. I would also bet that you will be reading it and NMH again and again if you like any of the following books: Easy, Losing It, The Rosie Project, On The Island, Blackmoore, Dear Mr. Knightley, Just Ella, The Kiss of an Angel and most Susan Elizabeth Phillips' books, everything that Julie James writes, and... dare I say it... Persuasion. All my favorites in this genre until I read the Penny Reid books that now hold that distinction. NMH made me so happy, I grieved to know that I would never read it again for the first time.

2. If you read a lot in this genre like I do (especially self-published authors), you should know that Penny Reid loves and respects her characters and, very significantly, her readers. What does this mean for you? You will NOT be disappointed or abused. For instance, you will be spared a POV rehash/ attempt to make more money with the same story. You will NOT suffer the sequel/continuation that takes you on a frustrating/devastating/out-of-character detour. (I confess I was really worried when a slamp showed up!) You will be protected from annoying distractions in the form of bad grammar, word omissions (I hope), low level vocabulary or other products of rushed writing and copyediting. (Love that she uses the word "discombobulated" and the subjunctive tense!) The quality of writing in all the Knitting in The City series is, on so many levels, above the majority of what is out there. Smarter romances indeed!!

3. Penny Reid is a master of character and relationship development. In her past life, she must have been a guru of human psychology. I have never read about characters as unique as Janie and Quinn or maybe I never understood them so completely or why they really work together so well. End result? Total investment in their finding their way to deepening their love for themselves and each other. In the hands of a master, you know they can do this marriage, future thing and you are cheering with all your reader's heart for this couple. Expect to personally learn and grow with them.

4. "Reiders" already know that there is nothing formulaic about Penny Reid's writing. High level but also wildly wacky weird humor--YES. Scorching hot, beautiful sex and love scenes--YES. (Not the ucky, sordid variety--not even in her contribution to Forbidden Fruits, 2.) Moments of soul shattering, unforgettable tenderness and vulnerability--YES. Snappy, quotable, entertaining but realistic dialogue--YES. But most of all, there is Penny Reid MAGIC. Singular, wonderful, perfectly paced. Gods' gifted story telling. I hope she stays fearless and adventurous and out there. Proposals on the rack of torture, machine guns in the desert, math jokes, Amsterdam chocolates, sexy big white North Carolina organic cotton underwear, stiletto wearing comic book readers. The light -YES. But also the heft, in richly and poignantly described parents and siblings who disappoint, lovers and friends who redeem and protect and treasure, and most of all, individuals who make often unpredictable but ultimately wise choices in their pursuit of personal fulfillment and happiness. Does love have to be tested to be real?

5. NMH is a bargain, so I encourage you to get in on the ground floor. If you polled Penny Reid fans everywhere, I guarantee that you would discover a majority willing to pay a lot more than 2.99 for this full-length remarkable story. Not sure about the price elasticity, but I'm certain of the value of this gift and therefore the generosity of this author to her fans. Lucky, lucky us.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Cannot say enough good things about this book! 18 juin 2014

Janie and Quinn are my favorite couple from all of Penny's books, so I was really excited to read this book. I was not disappointed! I loved everything about it. The chapters from Quinn's point of view were probably my favorite, and I'd be happy to shell out big bucks for more of those. I liked that the book didn't include contrived drama and we never felt that Janie and Quinn's relationship was in trouble, which seems to be how many follow up books are written. I didn't realize the book was going to be only $2.99 too; what a great deal! It's practically impossible to find well written romance novels at that price. If you enjoyed Neanderthal Seeks Human, you have to buy this book!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 An Impossible Feat - Even BETTER Than Neanderthal Seeks Human 5+++ Stars 16 juin 2014

Finals exams have been thrust to the side and I have barricaded myself in my bedroom to laugh, cry, and grin like an idiot for hours while reading NEANDERTHAL MARRIES HUMAN. Truly this is Penny Reid`s gift to lovers of romance, humor, and all things quirky. It`s so refreshing to read a love story that doesn`t involve the usual trite secrets or over the top plot manipulations. This is just a great story from beginning to end.

What is also exceptional about this novel is that Janie, who already was a complex character, continues to grow in this sequel. Without losing one bit of her charm, you can see that Quinn`s love makes her feel safe. She learns to express what she needs, to give the gift of her unique love to all her friends, and to accept the love she is given in return.

Quinn, who remains the ultimate Handsome McHotpants, also learns some life lessons along the way. We get to see even more of his romantic side with the ultimate romantic (and funny) proposal. His insecurities shine through in this book and it makes Quinn even more appealing.

I have no sense that this is the end of Janie and Quinn`s story. There is a lot more to tell and much to learn about the secondary characters in the Neanderthal series. When Penny Reid is able to take a well deserved break from the work of creating such a great book and the resulting adulation, I look forward to reading what comes next.

As soon as the finals are marked, I am going to start all over again with Book 1. Kudos Ms. Reid!

"My stomach warmed with the thought of little Quinn Navy SEALS running around the penthouse, causing mischief and throwing taciturn tantrums. Perhaps executing covert ops to extract cookies from the kitchen."

"Every relationship is like a virus -- where two people negotiate and change, stretch and grow, recruit and assimilate ultil you`re two things, but also one entity..."

"Janie learned early in our relationship to cite peer reviewed research relating to sexuality if she wanted to get me hot."

"You`re just upset because, for once, you`re not the nicest piece of man eye-candy in the room."

"I need your help finding a wedding dress that is Marie Antoinette levels of completely amazing but without any reference to the fact that she was ultimately beheaded."

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Absolutely Amazing! 16 juin 2014

What can I say about this book to make you understand how awesome and lovely it is? I was beyond excited to be revisiting Janie and Quinn, and NMH completely exceeded what I thought I wanted out of their story.

There are so many sweet moments and just as many giggle-snort scenes. There were at least two parts where I cried like Kristen Bell in the presence of a sloth! The entire time I was reading I was completely caught up in the amazingness of the story being told.

I don't know how to comment on the plot without giving away big time spoilers, so I'll just say that I loved getting to see the events of the second book in the series from a different perspective! Also, we finally find out how that night in Vegas ended up with Nico and Elizabeth getting hitched ;)

This is a wonderful continuation of a spectacular series - if you haven't started from the beginning, run -don't walk!- to grab Neanderthal Seeks Human, and then snatch this one up as well. You absolutely won't regret it!
