Fascinating and Thorough Study on Near Death Experiences 20 novembre 2012
Par Shelley Hitz - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
There is much talk these days (and many best-selling books) that discuss near death experiences. However, this book is not just a book with one person's story but a thorough and detailed study on near death experiences. Actually 20% of the book was just the endnotes full of references to back up what the author shares.

The author states in the beginning of the book that he tends to be a skeptic and wants to know the full details before he will believe something. And I can tell that he has done just that with near death experiences. He shares some stories but also evidence and arguments regarding them. It is a fascinating subject and covered very well in this book. Recommended.

An exciting examination of Near Death Experiences 11 novembre 2012
Par Dr Robert E McGinnis - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
I highly recommend this book.

There are many reason why I am very interested in this particular subject, but first I must say that I have never been skeptical of NDE because of a similar experience that I had before the age of ten. At that time I didn't give it a second thought, but as my life moves on I can see the experience I had about seventy years ago was very similar to what is explained and reported in Steve Miller's book. My three brothers and I had our tonsils out on the same day. I was the last to go under the knife. During the operation a series of strange things happened to me and I won't describe it here, but I will tell you that my experience was very similar to what has been reported in this book. The incision to remove my tonsils was faulted and I hemorrhaged. I lost a tremendous amount of blood. In those days we were given chloroform before an operation and because of the emergency I had to be given more than the recommended safe amount. I was able to look down on the doctors working on me but I had not the first ounce of fear. I was listening to the most beautiful music I had ever heard. Some of this could be a trick of the subconscious, I don't know. My brothers went home on schedule and I had to stay behind in critical care. It was three weeks before I could eat solid foods.

The above doesn't tell how much I liked Steve Miller's book, but only that I have no doubt of anything I learned from my reading. I found his book to be fascinating and very compelling, it struck a familiar chord with me in that my reading gave me so much feeling for the total life I live, not just a physical temporary life here on earth. Steve's book fills in a lot of the gaps in my own belief and inspires me to give more thought about my life, my purpose on earth and what to expect in the hereafter. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone that has an interest in reading about this sort of experience. Our bodies are borrowed and timed for recall based on certain involuntary and voluntary occurrences that happen during our earthy life. Isn't it amazing to read such great and in depth research about what happens to us when we pay back the debt we incurred to live such a short time here on earth?

A believer

Accurate and Comprehensive overview of NDE research. 28 mars 2013
Par Anne Rice - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
This is an excellent book for anyone new to NDE research and reading. It provides an eloquent and very easy to understand guide to the history of NDE research, the major books in the field, and the many sources of anecdotal evidence about NDEs. ----- The book is beautifully organized to make all aspects of the NDE phenomenon accessible. And for anyone who has had an NDE and been unable to confide about it, this may be quite a gift. ---- I've been following the field for years, fascinated by the classic accounts by Howard Storm and George Ritchie, and intrigued by the seminal studies of Moody, Rawlings, Sabom, Morse etc. and the more recent books by Chris Cox and Jeffrey Long and others. ---- And I know from painful experience that one of the difficult things for those interested in this field is the contemptuous dismissal of NDEs by those who know almost nothing about them. Trying to talk to a "skeptic" who has not done the research is not only frustrating but usually pointless. Trying to avoid a "skeptic" while discussing NDEs with others can be maddening and sometimes impossible. A book like this explains well why none of the so called "scientific" or "biological" explanations for the NDE can really adequately explain away the data. --- And of course there is a marvelous discussion here of the PATTERNS that emerge from NDE reporting worldwide and this is the very heart of the whole enterprise for many of us. The patterns. We're intrigued by these patterns, by their undeniable recurrence and by what they might mean about us as humans and about the possibility of an afterlife. ------ I recommend the book wholeheartedly. ---- Again, if you're new to this field, this is a perfect introduction. If you want to revisit the material in an organized way and reflect on it, this is an enjoyable and provocative read. If you're sick of arguing with an opinionated ignorant spouse or friend about the matter, you might offer the person this book. It's a valuable addition to any NDE library.

Near Death Experience 1 décembre 2012
Par Teena Marie Stewart - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
J. Steve Miller has made a comprehensive and thorough study on near death experiences. The book references many accounts of those who have been temporarily dead and what they have seen while in that state. But what lends the highest credibility to the work are the accounts of those in the medical profession who have told accounts of patients. These are not hysterical people but those who would be seen by those who know them as normal and respectable thereby carrying more weight.

The author has accurately called it a brief study, and indeed, it is just 6 chapters with multiple appendixes but he has represented the length honestly and has done a thorough job. Throughout you will find excellent writing and documentation that is in simple layman's language. Where other studies documented in such a way might become cumbersome, this book held my interest and helped sway me, a skeptic to see the plausibility of near death experiences. I especially appreciated his convincing and logical arguments about common themes in most accounts of near death experiences which he tackles on a point by point and how he ties them in to the existence of God and spiritual beings.
If you have any interest in this topic and are yet undecided, I highly recommend this book. I doubt you will find a better one on this subject anywhere.

A Scientific Review to the Study of Near Death Experiences 23 novembre 2012
Par Lorilyn Roberts - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
I was impressed by the approach Steve Miller took in "Near-Death Experiences, As Evidence for the Existence of God and Heaven, A Brief Introduction in Plain Language."

Mr. Miller admits he's a skeptic and so approaches this controversial topic scientifically, but he writes simply enough that a layperson can understand. I appreciated the plethora of resources referenced--if I wanted to pursue further study, I have access to the latest information in the back pages of this book. A person could spend months or years going through the references--exhaustive in detail for those who are academically inclined.

While I have not read extensively on this topic like Mr. Miller, I have read a couple of books, but I had no idea NDE's are so universal. I always considered the topic exclusive to Western thought--more specifically, a Christian worldview. Now my interest has been piqued to learn more. Mr. Miller has taken a wide approach to this topic--and left the reader to come to his own conclusions.

If you are a researcher on NDE--you need to read this book. If you work in the medical field with terminally ill patients, you need to read this book. If you are a skeptic, you need to read this book. If you have any interest in what happens when you die--and all of us are going to die--you need to read this book.

"Near-Death Experiences, As Evidence for the Existence of God and Heaven" leaves the door open for more study, more questioning, more pondering, and more pursuit of what happens to the brain when a person has been declared brain dead. This book almost raises more questions than it answers--good questions that need to be addressed--like why a blind person can see in a NDE, or a deaf person can hear, or how a person later can describe in exact detail a procedure in an operating room when he had no brain activity.

While I have never had a NDE, I've had a couple of paranormal experiences with people in my family who have died. There is no doubt my deceased father visited me on his way to heaven (I am a Christian). I did not know he had died until about twenty minutes later when my brother called me and gave me the news. It explained what had just happened that at the time was a complete mystery.

God gives us questioning minds and some events almost defy scientific explanation. May we be willing to embrace the spiritual component--lest we miss the message given to us by those who have returned. Almost all NDEers are changed by the experience--most are more appreciative of ordinary things, "more forgiving, more tolerant, and less critical of others...more compassionate and caring."

As a Christian, I find that fascinating because we know God is a God of love and death is universal. What greater message could come to us from the grave than to be more loving toward our family and others? It begs for an answer, what happens spiritually? How could people's lives be so profoundly changed when they return if they didn't have a spiritual experience? These are questions that are difficult to answer scientifically. They are emotional, mystical in nature. I look forward to reading more on this topic from Mr. Miller in the future.
