Description de l'ouvrage

18 juin 2010
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Necrophilia, also called thanatophilia and necrolagnia, is the sexual attraction to corpses. It is classified as a paraphilia by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association.Rosman and Resnick (1989) reviewed information from 34 cases of necrophilia describing the individuals'' motivations for their behaviors: these individuals reported the desire to possess an unresisting and unrejecting partner (68%), reunions with a romantic partner (21%), sexual attraction to corpses (15%), comfort or overcoming feelings of isolation (15%), or seeking self-esteem by expressing power over a homicide victim (12%).

I am a clinical social worker who has worked with necrophilic patients. I hoped that this might actually be a book about the issues of necrophilia, but it is a disorganized, hodge-podge of fact, supposition and popular history. On these specific issues, I have not yet seen a scholarly text written or one that is usable from a forensic/legal standpoint. I might have to write the book myself.
However, this is the absolute wrong way to write a book about this topic. Reading it was like watching Fox News.

This is NOT a book/guide for people wishing to learn about necrophilia. While the red dot on the cover says 'High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles' (I'm not sure why Wikipedia is spelled in all caps?) what they don't tell you is that everything is literally copied and pasted off Wikipedia, with NO editorial oversight. Wikipedia is a fine source of information, but it is also prone to vandalism. Since these articles aren't checked before being printed, the potential for misleading information is part of this book. The book itself is not very well put together (the text is not cleaned up, you can still see HTML markups, pictures that were nice color on Wikipedia are reduced to shrunk, black and white quality, technical images like graphs are hard to read, foreign language fonts like Chinese or Arabic or various symbols are missing, and the font for the general text itself is actually rather small) making for a book of extremely poor quality.

Much of this book is not even about necrophilia. You have articles on cadavers, human sexuality, the APA, paraphilia, and the like. These subjects might be interesting, but the context of these articles are self-contained - not what these various topics have to do with necrophilia.

You're better off going to Wikipedia itself and reading its *free* articles on necrophilia and the other subjects in this book. And on the site, the articles are modified and updated - a feature you won't find with this 'book' once you buy/obtain a paper copy.
