Présentation de l'éditeur

Book 4 in the Whyborne & Griffin series
Previous book: Stormhaven

Introverted scholar Percival Endicott Whyborne has spent the last few months watching his lover, Griffin Flaherty, come to terms with the rejection of his adoptive family. So when an urgent telegram from Christine summons them to Egypt, Whyborne is reluctant to risk the fragile peace they’ve established. Until, that is, a man who seems as much animal as human tries to murder Whyborne in the museum.

Amidst the ancient ruins of the pharaohs, they must join Christine and face betrayal, murder, and a legendary sorceress risen from the dead. In the forge of the desert heat, the trio will either face their fears and stand together—or shatter the bonds between them forever.

l'ensemble de la série est parfait mais celui ci est mon préféré. Tout d'abord un voyage en Egypte, puis le personnage d'Evelyn est développé. Agréable lecture dans un univers de plus en plus attachant.

I love Whyborne and Griffin, and I think that Christine is the perfect supporting cast. And, much like Portland is a character in Grimm, Widdershins is its own character. I admit to being slightly concerned how taking Whyborne out of Widdershins and adding travel to Egypt would interfere, but Threshold was set outside Widdershins, so I has faith. I needn't have been concerned. Like always, I was sucked into the setting, and reuniting up with Whyborne and Griffin felt like catching up with long lost friends. The supernatural/paranormal/mysteriousness was spot on. The interactions between the character, the scene descriptions and the plot were all superb. Necropolis was definitely worth the wait. If you've not read the previous 3 books and novella, do that first. These books are not meant to be stand alones. You can absolutely read this book would reading the previous one and still understand the plot of this book, but you won't get the character or relationship development established in the previous ones. Give yourself a present, go buy the previous books, get a glass of wine, and tuck in for a night of Wyborne and Griffin. You can thank me later.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Grab them all! Action, adventure, magic, love and lust! 6 mai 2014

Christmas at the Whyborne estate was far more successful than anyone anticipated; just half of a brawl, a mini-windstorm and only a mild reprimand from Griffin over Whyborne having taught his mother a spell. No one threatened murder and no one was kidnapped by cultists. Until a telegram arrives...

Christine is in Egypt, directing another dig when an "associate" is murdered. And not just murdered...eaten. Well, partially anyway. On top of that, she's at risk of losing her dig rights to "more appropriate" male colleagues. Naturally, she contacts the best detectives she knows, her best friends and surrogate family, Whyborne and Griffin.

Peeved, to say the least, at Christine's summons, Whyborne debates going. That is until a guard at the museum is brutally killed by an animalistic intruder looking for something in the Egyptian artifacts Christine had uncovered. Now he knows Christine isn't just being "demanding Christine" and that she is facing significant danger, he and Griffin head off to Egypt to save the not so damsel in distress.

This may just be my favorite W & G. The action is nearly non-stop, while Griffin and Whyborne's romance (and healthy lust for each other) is rock solid and stronger than ever. Griffin finally, finally begins to accept Whyborne's abilities. We get to see a different side of Christine that makes her a more fully realized character. The monsters and the big bad are awesomely creepy and evil and a bit heartbreaking. In short, if this was a movie, it would be a solid extra large bucket of popcorn, extra butter and a box of Milk Duds kinda movie.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Jordan L. Hawk's Necropolis is Sublime 6 mai 2014
Par Reece Notley - Publié sur Amazon.com
I have always been honest about my love for Jordan L. Hawk’s writing. She’s delivered fantastical and well crafted stories time and time again. In Necropolis, the fourth in the Whyborne & Griffin series, Hawk once again shows why she is a master of her craft.

Simply put, she uses the RIGHT words, threads them together so the whole is so much greater than the sum of its parts. Or rather to go with the “true” phrasing; The whole is other than the sum of the parts.

I think Hawk’s books are in fact a damned good representation of the concept of “gestalt”. The primary construct of words into phrases bring to rise secondary tangible concepts and reactions for a reader to shift through and experience. The layering of her main characters’ motivations, fears and — even if I dare say it—loves, bring the reader to a world only Hawk could have imagined up. Even seated in the real world with a bare toe-dip into our own history, Hawk reveals a reality hidden in the shadowy folds of what-ifs.

That being said, while her world might be a few steps out of physical sync with our own universe, it is her fully-realized characters that drive home to the reader that we are all human—regardless of what surrounds us at that time.

In Necropolis, Whyborne and Griffin are transported to a time in Egypt when wholescale looting of tombs for the entertainment of the world’s rich was par for the course. It is a time when no one thought anything of burning a mummy in a fireplace because that’s what one did to amuse one’s guests or perhaps even grind up a forgotten Princess’ remains to be mixed into a tincture to cure a cough. The starkness of this time is laid down carefully, a lace of realism sewn over the satiny pleasure of Hawk’s main characters’ existence. To see Whyborne and Griffin embellished in this location only serves to strengthen who they are in the book and cements their bond in ways that would satisfy even the most particular of readers.

I cannot wait to re-read this book. I finished it a few days ago and am even now, craving for the taste of Hawk’s words again. Her stories are an opiate and I for one, am always glad to walk into her Den.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Loved this book :) 5 mai 2014

I've read all the other W&G books over the last month or so and when I was offered an early release copy of this I fell on like a pack of ravenous dogs on a steak. So many twists and turns and I had one moment where I actually emailed the author... poor Jordan...

Loved this book so much. Percival thinking things he shouldn't and having Griffin put his straight had me aaaahhhing at the story. God, these two are so in love. I read it in one sitting and as usual I was not left disappointed. Love the mystery and the Egypt links, just everything about the story. Christine, I envy her, I want her adventures. Jordan can not write these books fast enough for me. But, I also want SPECTR books as well... ROFL

As the review chair for The Paranormal Romance Guild, I READ A LOT OF BOOKS!
I bought the first book of this series at Rainbowcon in Tampa in April 2014. My review of it, and by the way the first book it is called Widdershins is on Amazon dated May 28th. It will take me a few days to do this but today August 1, 2014 I have finished the entire series and will attempt to write reviews for the rest of the series.

Percivall Whyborne has met handsome ex- Pinkerton agent, Griffin Flaherty who came to Widdershins. When Griffin knocked at the museum door where Whyborne worked it was a match made in heaven. This relationship is extremely taboo for their time and place, yet Percy cannot see what the handsome Griffin would see in this shy, smart, attractive young man. I smile at the fierceness and strength that Percy is now showing within this relationship. His attempt at the magic possess scares Griffin and yet it has gotten them through some hard situations defying Griffins fears. Griffin the tall handsome giant in Percys heart and mind has succeeded in opening up to the fears that have crippled him.

After reading Widdershins and Threshold and Storm haven It is refreshing to have the spotlight point at Christine who has been a support to them and these stories. Necropolis brings this strong sharp tongued woman to the forefront calling upon Whyborne and Griffin to come help her on a dig in Egypt.

Again the three musketeers, Whyborne, Griffin and Christine work together to solve this incredible mystery with new characters, new monsters using ingenuity, magic with a pinch of humor. Jordan L Hawk, has brought to us a storyline that fits no one specific genre. There is horror, adventure, mystery, a bit of magic and very hot steamy m/m sex ! It is perfect !!!!
