Présentation de l'éditeur

The Cure emerged in the post-punk 70s and defied all expectations to launch a marathon career marked by hit records and a string of sell-out arena shows.

Never Enough traces The Cure's roots in middle-class Crawley, Sussex, and tracks their gradual rise, revealing how their first major album Pornography, almost ended the band well before their multi-platinum career began. Also documents Robert Smith's escape into the Siouxie & The Banshees camp during the 80s, and his experimentation with every drug. His reluctance to return to The Cure would eventually lead to them becoming superstars all across the globe.

Never Enough is the first major, definitive biography of these post-punk survivors. In 2004, after numerous personnel changes, the band delivered their Greastest Hits album.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 a band-ography for Cure fans 22 septembre 2006
Par Mary A. Groves - Publié sur
It's nice to have a Cure biography and there is a heck of a lot of history to go through. In a way it's nice to have the book to make sense of all the different line-ups, who did what when, and how and why everyone came to be in the band.

Also the story in the beginning about Robert's brother taking him to the Isle of Wight festival is priceless. I won't say anymore here so that you'll go get the book!

It probably could be better but there's still enough good info in there for Cure fans that they won't be dissapointed. Another important thing to mention is that he interviewed Lol Tolhurst, and some other former members, so you get more than one perspective on the old days, which is cool.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 For now, the QUINTESSENTIAL biography of the greatest band ever!! The Cure!! 16 octobre 2006
Par Gregory Orozco - Publié sur
A Great!! GREAT! Book. Starting from when Lol Tolhurst, Mike Dempsey, Simon Gallup, and Robert Smith joined and from other band join ins and outs. Talks an awful lot of Robert Smiths life as a child with his childhood friend and former bandmate Lol Tolhurst. Incredible book!! There is alot more tho that I would have wanted to see. THe author cut off at some songs when introducing an album to speed up the book. Alot of songs were left unspoken of which kinda ticked me off but other than that I LOVED it!!

For Cure fans alike this book is a MUST read!!! It's great! Don't hesitate, buy it!! You will love it!!

From a fan's perspective, it's disheartening to read a biography on the Cure with so many mistakes, especially easily correctable ones pertaining to the discography. It doesn't lend a lot of credibility to the rest of the book. A few times the author Jeff Apter starts talking about a subject as if he's already mentioned it and he hasn't. He often launches annoying, unnecessary barbs at Robert Smith as well. Interviews with disgraced former band member Lol Tolhurst were the main source of material for NEVER ENOUGH which should tell you something. The Cure sanctioned book 10 IMAGINARY YEARS is sited repeatedly, so you may as well go straight to that source even though it came out back in 1988 because it's a fun, informative book about the Cure's first years. Robert Smith himself contributed many fascinating bits of inside information and they aren't always rose-tinted either. When NEVER ENOUGH tackles the Cure's later years without 10 IMAGINARY YEARS to rely on, there is far less inside info. Interestingly, Apter notes that Banshees bassist and former Smith collaborator Steven Severin would only consent to an interview for payment. He should've paid because the book could've really used his input. As it stands, the book does provide some interesting information about life in the Cure, but considering the lack of care that went into this hack job, I don't think we can trust it to be the truth.

rating: not recommended, or marginally recommended to the Cure fan who wants to learn more about the band and doesn't mind slogging through misinformation and boring descriptions of Cure albums.

i am a diehard cure fan since about 1985, but this book told me so much info i really feel like i did my homework! excellent stories, amazing detailed, fairly balanced on controversial issues, great photos. if you wish you'd been in on the cure during their teenage years, this book will fill you in to a serioius level. truly entertaining read.

i'd recommend this highly...but please avoid In Between Days: An Armchair Guide to the Cure unless you really just want to read discographical info.

I will keep this review brief as one word sums up the quality of this book's prose, information and 'texture' : FABULOUS. I have read a lot of music biographies and I rate this as one of the best (and as bonus, it is on occasion, laugh-out-loud funny). For anyone who likes The Cure, just buy it. I am a similar age to the founding members of the band and found myself relating so much to what socially, and whom, musically influenced them. Listen, this is a great story. Five stars, unequivocally.
