I am in my late 50s. I had tried to become vegan several times in the past, because of my love for animals. I was just never able to do it.

This book got me over the hump. I am now a very happy fledgling vegan. I feel no deprivation whatsoever. My desire for animal foods is fading FAST. The book helped me realize that there are great-tasting vegan versions of practically anything. And if feels so good to be finally living consistent with my convictions.

The book is extremely informative as well as inspirational. It's worth the price just to learn about the incredible array of vegan resources that are available out there.

The authors mention that one of the things people most regret on their deathbeds is not living in accordance with their true selves - going along with the culture or family or church or whatever, when their real selves want to go in a different direction. That point really hit me. I realized that in my heart of hearts I am a vegan. Maybe you are, too. This book can certainly help you find out.

But ever since former President Bill Clinton went vegan, those who would have never considered it are reconsidering the health benefits, and then often the next step, what it can do for animals and the planet.

This trifecta vegan powerhouse of prolific authors, including the legendary vegan RD, Ginny Messina, leave no stone unturned in sharing every compelling reason to go vegan. They cover all the starting points from your wardrobe to dealing with a non-vegan circle of friends and relatives. And if all that weren't enough, they've included some very easy and delicious recipes at the end that deliver healthy doses of nutrition and flavor. Sections on building salads and sandwiches show how going vegan doesn't have to be rocket science.

Even if you are already vegan, the recipes are super appealing. The section on easy vegan meals for the non-cook may ring true at any age. Yes, I received a review copy, but if I didn't really like it, trust me, I wouldn't be writing here. Mama always said, "If you don't have something nice to say..." ;)

I bought the book to learn more about the choice to be vegan. While I'm not ready to make that jump just yet, the book was a eye opener on so many levels. It's not simply a list of reasons to be vegan, it offers a comprehensive summary of the ways in which the use of animals and animal products in our foods and our clothing impacts the environment. While I expected that but still found it fascinating, a pleasant surprise was the wealth of nutritional knowledge included. Learning about how my specific food choices directly
affect my body was terrific. From which foods will lower blood pressure to the choices that will make me generally feel better, I gained so much information that has already informed my choices. Plus, the recipes are spectacular -- easy to make and delicious. As they say in the book, people often love vegan dishes as long as they don't know they're vegan. I've already made a soup that got rave reviews and found a cheese substitute in nutritional yeast that made my palate and my arteries happier. I read the book completely, even the recipes and found it more than satisfying. If you are looking for a great resource about healthier eating, even if you aren't going vegan just yet or ever, this book will more than do the job for you.

This is the book that made me commit to veganism after 40 years of flirting with it. I've been a vegetarian, and mostly "vegan-ish" since I was 18, but it's taken me all that time to actually let go of some of my craves, like dairy and conventional baked goods.

I loved the entire book, but one feature I especially enjoyed was 'Our Vegan Lives' when Ginny, Carol and Patti answered specific questions like: 'What's in our fridges', 'What's in our vegan homes', 'Tips that helped us become vegan', etc. This book is the one written for my generation with solid evidence-based science, as well as the personal touch. It's a masterpiece!

I really enjoyed this book, and it's one I will keep for reference and reading pleasure. Many vegan resources are aimed at young-ish girls because they seem to be the demographic most likely to become vegan--that's too bad, because people open up to new ideas when they see people just like themselves in it, when they can imagine they will belong. This book offers a chorus of welcoming voices. In addition to the authors, many contributors tell of their journey to veganism and how they are living as vegans. This book is full of useful information: the health and nutritional information are top-notch, there are many great recipes and ideas for quick and easy meals, advice for community, managing family and social situations, work and travel, and a sensitive discussion of care giving and assisted living considerations. Highly recommended!
