Great New England Travel Book To Add To Your Library 28 mai 2014
Par Bill A. Belt - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Commentaire client Vine pour produit gratuit ( De quoi s'agit-il? )
If you are among those that wonder if the Lonely Planet travel books are as good as some of those other ones you purchased in the past, rest assured these are up to date and very good travel books. You may have already been to the New England area and know quite a bit about everything there is to know about that area. This particular travel book on New England does not come with a pull out map, thus you need to pick one up at your travel service or order on the internet. There are many city and area maps contained throughout the book. There are a few color photos, at the beginning of the travel book, and I think personally this is a shortcoming on the part of the publisher.

The travel book is broken down into section dealing with six of the states plus specific info about the Boston and surrounding area and counties. At the beginning of the book there is a “Top 15” section for those places that would be interesting to visit. There are neat sections dealing with such articles as “Itineraries”, a “Month by Month” section on what is happening in each month, and “Regions At A Glance”. A lot of the pages will be devoted to a specific area, such as a township, as what is available in that area such as lodging and dining. While this is a start you will more than likely find that you will need the use of the internet to plan a really comprehensive trip to New England.

I personally think the book gives you a good foundation for your upcoming explorations of the area thus supplement this travel book with your other research information. There are places listed in the book such as lodging and dining that we know about and others we never heard of plus some we have been to which we thought were great that are not listed.

The travel book contains more than 450 pages with much of it well written and up to date. The index is 7 pages on thus you should be able to find about any subject that is on your mind. A great book at a fair price. The pages are printed on good---not high quality---paper and the font is easy to read. I personally fiend this important as some publishers cut back on the paper quality and use less ink in their printing, thus making a travel book really hard to read.

Visiting New England... 1 juin 2014

This Lonely Planet guide to New England covers the essential sights in five states in less than 450 portable pages. The information is well organized in an easy-to-read format, tightly focused on the attractions most visitors are most likely to be interested in. The commentary is concise, up to date and very opinionated, which is just what many travelers in a hurry really want. There are some useful maps and diagrams, and lots of practical information on how to get around and what to avoid. The coverage of Boston is pretty good. There are no pictures past the covers; if you need pictures to motivate your visit, this book won't do it. And if you plan to get well off the beaten path, you might have to look beyond this guide. Recommended.

Excellent 28 mai 2014

I must agree with fellow reviewer Bill Belt that this particular Lonely Planet travel book is completely up to snuff.

True enough there is no map, and also true, the little color photos leave something to be desired.

Nevertheless, the six state sections, plus the "top 15" section at the book's outset and the additional section on sights around Boston---of which there are plenty---make this into a comprehensive enough guide for those visiting New England for the first time, as well as frequent visitors and, frankly, even residents.

It is a truism perhaps that people who live in a place have often seen less of it than tourists. Sometimes they don't even know of the wealth of historical or natural treasures that surround them. Not that this book covers them all, either. Still it lists enough of the off-the-beaten path sights, in addition to many key attractions and roads, to warrant your purchase. I too especially like the "month by month" section listing various major events in New England throughout the calendar year.

In short, this little volume is a great one to carry along in your glove compartment, or on your passenger's lap, as you tool along the New England country roads. Of course you can supplement the book with others, but this one (besides sights) also lists places to stay and places to eat, and does so according to graded budgets. (Understand, this is not a list of places for the families that prefer to travel really on the cheap, staying in campgrounds. For such lodgings you'd need a different guide.)

It is indeed a very serviceable little volume and the cost is fair. Have fun!

Essential guide to help you get around 18 avril 2014

A great little book, helped us find all the right spots to go. We only visited a few places in the guide as it was a short trip and the book was spot on with the write up's. We are moving to the area this year and will no doubt use the guide to help us find some other gems in new England. Many Thanks to Lonely Planet!

Informative and Well Design Travel Book of New England 20 juin 2014
Par Cheryl C. Malandrinos - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Commentaire client Vine pour produit gratuit ( De quoi s'agit-il? )
I requested this book because I've lived in New England my entire life, but have rarely visited many of its wonderful sites. This is going to be a helpful resource to introduce me to these landmarks and activities.

The back of the front cover includes a key to the various symbols to help you along. After the Table of Contents, there is a Welcome to New England page that talks about the history, culture, and food of the area. A large map of New England is included, along with an article titled, "New England's Top 15," which includes the Appalachian Trail, Acadia National Park, and mansions of Newport. A Need to Know section follows that incudes important numbers, exchange rates, seasonal temperatures, and a list of useful websites.

What caught my eye is the "If You Like..." section that suggests locations based upon what you like to do and includes the page numbers for where these can be found in the book. I also liked the month by month list of events: the Boston Marathon, the Maine Lobster Festival, and the Big E are all included in this list.

This travel guide also includes suggested itineraries and breaks down the regions in a quick three-page section before starting off with Boston and making its way through to Maine. The book ends with a Survival Guide that discusses everything from accommodations to visa applications.

I look forward to exploring New England with this travel guide by my side.
