Présentation de l'éditeur

A vacation fling. No complications. No connections. And no regrets.

Trauma surgeon Jae Sun Kim has just lost the job he wanted more than anything else in his life. Looking for a way to hit the reset button, he takes a scuba vacation. He didn’t plan on seasickness, or a dive master who is sex-on-the-beach personified.

Shane McCormack’s tendency to drift away from complicated situations has landed him a job as a dive master in Belize, which isn’t as glamorous as it sounds. But with the big three-oh looming, asking his parents to bail him out again isn’t an option. The job isn’t without its perks, though, and as soon as he figures a way to keep that hot but arrogant ass of a doctor from tossing his cookies over the side of the boat, he plans to flirt the control freak out of his brittle shell.

The close quarters on the ship generate more heat than either expects, but a vacation fling is all that’s in the plans. An unexpected adventure leaves them changed in ways that make it impossible to go back to their old lives. The risks they’ll both have to take could leave them with nothing but more scars, or the best souvenir of all.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Not sure if it's a keeper, but a pleasant distraction while you're with it... 22 mai 2010

I ordered the sample chapter and found the men a bit too sniping and snarky to each other and later realized that I had accidentally bought the book. I decided what the hell, may as well read it, as it's all of $4. Jae Sun Kim is taking some time off his one track life/career and giving himself a week of scuba diving in Belize. Shane McCormack is the sexy Texan dive master. Mysteriously the two have to share a cabin and unsurprisingly, things get more involved from there... I initially found Jae Sun Kim and Shane McCormack too snippy and power playing, and they never really got into a groove that worked for me. The sex was good, great for them, pleasant enough to read, but the relationship dynamics never really convinced me. I found that Shane took all the risks and Jae Sun took all the power and Jae Sun definitely did not share nicely.

Mild Spoiler

Giving Shane one type of background and then making him so academically qualified didn't really fit either, and that whole part didn't convince me.

So I wasn't displeased to read it, and the words all flowed in the right order and I didn't skip any of it, and I finished it in one day. The medical lingo felt accurate and was presented confidently. But I had fundamental problems with both characters: Shane had huge inconsistencies and Kim was so controlling that I never warmed to him. So I never really bought into either of them.

That said, I did like it, I just don't know if it's going into my keeper pile (though does that term even apply anymore, to electronic books?) Okay, I don't know if it's going into my reread pile.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 BETTER THAN A SOUVENIR 12 avril 2010

No Souvenirs Jae Sun Kim arrives late for his scuba vacation's refresher class in Belize. Trauma surgeon, Kim has just lost the partnership career he sought. However, rescheduled accommodations and seasickness has Kim thinking this impulsive escape to diagram a new future is a terrible idea until he discovers that his roommate is the sexy dive master Shane McCormack. The close quarters on the ship and the mutual attraction, is the perfect setting for a vacation fling.

No Souvenirs is the story of Jae Sun Kim whom we first met in Collision Course. What started out as a vacation fling for Kim and Shane evolves into a romance after an unforeseen dramatic experience leaves them emotionally altered. When Kim returns home to Jacksonville, Florida, Shane follows him to explore the possibility of a relationship. The characters are well developed. Both men have a high degree of intelligence. Kim employs logic as well as arrogance when dealing with people, being inexperienced with relationships. His lack of skill in expressing his emotions is a source of annoyance for Shane. Easily bored and hiding behind a dumb cowboy personality, Shane avoids situations that will require dedication from him until he realizes that a life with Kim is what he wants. The secondary characters add another layer of interest to the overall plot. Interaction between Kim and Shane is sarcastic, humorous and incredibly erotic. The amazing K. A. Mitchell has produced another exciting saga that I thoroughly enjoyed.

After losing the fellowship he badly wanted, trauma surgeon Jae Sun Kim goes completely out of character and makes plans for an impromptu dive trip. When he meets the dive instructor, sexy redhead Shane McCormack, he dubs the annoying man "Scuba Cowboy" in his head and is certain they won't get along. Things get worse when he discovers he's sharing an onboard cabin with the man! Fortunately, Kim soon learns that while Shane can be annoying at times, he has a lot of other good points that make up for that--at least in bed.

Shane's the kind of guy that tends to flit from place to place. His career as a marine archaeologist keeps him traveling, and when he's not on a site he does dive instructing. He's never been very good at the whole boyfriend thing, and at first he sees Kim as just a fling. Then they go through a terrible experience together, and suddenly Shane's not so sure all he wants is a fling. Can two men who've never been good at relationships find a way to make things work?

KA Mitchell has become an auto-buy for me, and No Souvenirs is a prime example of why. Both Kim and Shane are flawed men, but Mitchell managed to make them both not only likeable, but characters I really identified with and felt for. Kim is a prickly man, difficult to get to know or to get along with. He's got a don't-ask-don't-tell understanding with his family regarding his sexuality, and work is the biggest part of his life. When he doesn't get the anticipated fellowship, he's bitter. Shane's an easygoing guy who hides his intelligence behind a good ol' boy attitude. He doesn't have much experience with commitment, either job-wise or in a relationship. Kim and Shane go forward in fits and starts, sort of sliding into a relationship before either of them realizes what's going on. Neither Kim nor Shane has a conventional life or outlook, so they surprised me a couple of times, keeping the story unpredictable. Watching them try to deal with their unexpected feelings is both entertaining and frustrating, but in a good way (if that makes any sense). You really can't go wrong with anything by KA Mitchell, and No Souvenirs is no exception.

Well I seem to have a knack for reading K.A. Mitchell out of sequence. This is book number 3 in the Florida series. This one had to grow on me, when it did, it took flight. When I finished it, I was in love with both characters.
Jay is a Korean trauma surgeon looking to move across the country to evade his parents and their attitude towards his being gay. Shane is a scuba instructor for a company that specializes in dives. When these to first meet, it's oil and water, but when their encounters become sexual, oil catches fire and water can't put it out. When the two are stranded during a dive, they begin to see their relationship as growing deeper. Shane is attacked by Portuguese man-o-war, nearly dying before Jay knows he can't live without him.
Jay is a surrounded by walls he has constructed to keep his soul safe. Shane can't stay in one place for long or as he states not good at the relationship thing. It's is so rewarding to see them fight, love, and live with each other. It's a win win situation for the reader. Some big twists come toward the end, that was more for characters than the reader.
I give this a wet suit full of stars.

This book will have you squirming in your seat with all the sexual tension. Not only that, but the determination of Kim to climb the Shane mountain while they both wrestle with their own demons - Kim's awkwardness at knowing what true love is, Shane's attention deficit disorder - will have you on the edge of your seat wondering if what you KNOW should happen WILL happen.

A great ride and one which you'll enjoy more than once.
