Présentation de l'éditeur

This book is an example-driven introduction to OGRE 3D. Each example shows some new features and you learn step-by-step to create complex scenes with different effects using OGRE 3D. After several examples discussing one topic there is a do-it-yourself part where you will be challenged to solve problems on your own. If you have ever wanted to develop 3D applications with OGRE 3D, this example-driven book will enable you to do so. Understanding of C++ is needed to follow the examples in the book.

Decent guide for a total beginner 22 septembre 2012
Par A. M. Hernandez - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
Let me first say that I have been using OGRE for something like 6 years (off and on) and I bought this mostly as a refresher. I knew going in that this book was for beginners, so I didn't expect too many advanced topics. For a total new-comer to OGRE, this is actually a great introductory text. It covers the basic stuff you would want to know and gives you the code to do that. So things like loading a model, creating lights, manipulating objects, and things like that. The author is successful in that regard.

However, if you have been using OGRE already you have probably covered all this same material in the free tutorials online or by reading the documentation.

That said, I still liked the way the material was presented, and it made a somewhat complex topic (3D rendering) approachable for a beginner. Also, don't be worried about the "1.7" version on the cover. The latest 1.8 version of OGRE has mostly the same API so all the concepts and code are still are still pretty much valid.

Also, I got the Kindle edition of this book. The formatting was OK (at least on an actual Kindle device) but suffered a little bit on my Android phone. Since the phone screen is small the code samples would wrap to multiple lines (what should be just on one line) and this made it somewhat difficult to read. But this happens with basically all programming eBooks, so no surprise there. It did look OK on the Kindle 3 and looks great on the Kindle Fire HD. And, for the price, it was a decent value.

Very good. 12 décembre 2011

This book is well written. And Ogre3D is excellent Open Source software, it is very easy to use considering the extreme complication of 3d graphics programming.

The book has a good structure. Chapter sections start with an explanation of the problem to be solved. Then the lesson and code, followed by a "Have a go hero" where they ask you to solve a related problem on your own. This works in your favor because it challenges you to think for yourself within the topic.

There are a few minor typos and one errant function call in an early chapter, easily figured out though.

If your thinking about this book or ogre3D this is the best book on the market for it.

Great book 28 décembre 2012

Great book for starters and beginners. I would recomend those with general knowledge of 3D scenegraphs to start with a more advanced book however.

Nothing you can't get from the free tutorial 29 mars 2011

It's basically a regurgitation of the tutorials you get online for free just dressed up. Was not impressed but it does show you a second set of examples and being physical you can read it in the bathroom.
