Présentation de l'éditeur

Livy notices him the moment he walks into the coffee shop. He's heart-stoppingly stunning, with a blue-eyed gaze so piercing she's almost too distracted to take his order. When he walks out the door, she thinks she'll never see him again. Then she finds the note he left on his napkin . . . signed M.

All he wants is one night to worship her. No feelings, no commitment - nothing but pleasure. Every defense mechanism Livy has adopted during her solitary life is at risk of being obliterated by this confounding man. He's obnoxious but well-mannered. He's a gentleman but aloof. He's passionate but emotionless. Yet the fascination is so powerful, Livy can't deny him...or herself.

M awakens something in Livy, something deep and addicting that she never knew existed-and that she fears only he can satisfy. But she senses that behind the fast cars, fancy suits, and posh apartment, he's aching inside.

To have him, body and soul, she'll have to brave his dark secrets. Delving into his world and breaking down his defenses becomes her obsession - an obsession that could shatter her heart beyond repair...

I love "This Man" serie (give me Jesse every day!) and awaited (very) eagerly for the next work of Mrs Malpas but I must honestly say I was a little bit disappointed till 95% in the story.
I didn't like Miller. At all. There, I said it. I found him cold, distant, hard to read, confusing, too gentelman, I could go on and on. So, I planned to give it 3 stars maximum except, he redeems himself at the very end of the book. The facade is cracked open, the pretense is no more we see/guess why Miller is so controlled and distant.

The last 5% are worth 5 stars. Yes, it becomes heated, angsty, dramatic, interesting, AT LAST! And we can forsee much, much more to the future. There is so much potential for twists and turns.

Some will find there is plenty drama earlier in the book but I was not gripped by these shocking events. In my eyes (a review is obviously subjective and gives the reader's opinion and in this case, my opinion) it felt like a warm up and now the author finally has found her (brilliant) pace.

So, I'm now a happy hopeful reader and will wait again for book 2 in the serie. Please Mrs Malpas, dive right in and keep going were you've left us: on our toes. I've great expectations for the next one. I do hope it comes early.

I really loved the 'this man' trilogy from JEM and was looking forward to her new work. She captured me with the story of Livy and M. I can't wait for the next book. It's a must read if you love the genre!

Cette histoire ne sort pas de l'ordinaire mais reste plaisante à lire.
L'interaction entre les deux personnages principaux est un peu simpliste et manque pas mal de "piment".

2.0 étoiles sur 5 I am sad to say I didn't like it 5 août 2014

That awkward moment when you realized that you didn't enjoy that much, a book you wanted to read so bad.

Our mysterious M is not that captivating. He's is sexy as hell I will tell you that much, but I didn't like his personality. He's not definitely Book Boyfriend material for me.

Livy. I didn't like her. She was childish and a lot of things about her were just unbelievable. Actually a lot of things about the story were repetitive, not romantic ( I Couldn't feel sparks between them ), M was rude and arrogant in a not a sexy way. I love Alpha Males, but they way M is, the alpha male personality is like too much for him to handle. Makes me not love him at all. He looks like a creepy stalker and not in a Christian Grey way.

At the middle of the book i was struggling. I wanted to end it asap and when I reached the mark were I knew Livia's secret ( she has one ) and I figured out M's secret ( way too early I figured that one out ) that's when I realized the book reached the predictable status.

Some things were similar to 'This Man" series and other books i have read. I am a BIG fan of Jodi's "This Man Trilogy". I love Jesse Ward. That trilogy was a 5 stars for me. So yes, I am sad. The book wasn't what I expected.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Could've been 4 stars but Livy was annoying & it was a SLOW build up. 17 juillet 2014
Par StellaBella - Publié sur

What a freaking roller coaster! The beginning started off a little annoying, mostly because of Livy & her actions.

I found myself wanted to give up and stop reading with how much she was all over the place and it was starting to get boring. It dragged on... A lot. After seeing him once she was already lusting after him. Acting all desperate over man she just met.

Miller was... A little hard to like. He came off as a controlling OCD person. Everything had to be in its place or he'd flip out. To me he felt cold.. All the time. & the way he talked! "I concur this, I concur that" i rolled my eyes everytime he said I CONCUR! He acted and spoke as if he was older than 29yr old- that get boring and repetitive after the third time. Then he kept correcting her manners! Even when he was trying to be sweet it came off as forced. And the thing with the holding her by her neck when they would walk somewhere!? Weird and possessive. I did not like it.

She gave into him to easily despite her saying she didn't want him, she shouldn't see him, he's going to break my heart and was starting to get clingy despite not knowing ANYTHING about him.

I still don't know what Cassie's relation to Miller really is. The way she acted made it seem there was more than just "Business". If that were the case she wouldn't be acting all jealous or picking out ties with him.

Once I found out about Livy's past, then prologue made sense. (I thought it had something to do with her mother. I guess it did) Miller kept pushing her to reveal things yet he wouldn't.

Then when we found out his work occupation- holy curveball! (I was not expecting that!) that's when it started getting interesting. But it was already at like 90%!! WHAT!

And the way it ended, obviously you're gonna want to get book#2. Well played Jodi. Well played.

One Night - Promised by Jodi Ellen Malpas
I am stunned. I loved This Man, so I suspected Jodi's new series would be good, but I am blown away. It may be sacrilegious to say this, but I believe she may have outdone herself. I believe this new series is even better than This Man, and I never thought I would ever say that about any series.
"M" is a man that you will fall in love with. You will wonder, like Livy does, about his history, about his idiosyncrasies, but you will not be able to take your eyes off of him. He is a fascinating man, a bit obsessive-compulsive, a bit too proper, a bit too mysterious and secretive, but he is still 100% sexy maleness. I have no doubt "M" will find a comfortable place in your heart right beside Jesse Ward. There is a new Lord of the Manor!
I would love to tell you "M"'s real name, however I won't ruin the suspense for you. But I will tell you that it is revealed very early in the novel. It does not become a big issue like Jesse's age was in This Man.
Livy, on the other hand, is one of the best female characters I think I've ever come across in this genre of erotic romance. She is fully developed with a fascinating back story that will leave you shocked and tearful. I love her sass. I love her innocence. I love her humor. I love her independence. She is totally smitten by "M", but not so much that she cannot confront him when necessary. She is not simply a doormat waiting for "M" to rescue her. I fell in love with Livy, and I think you will to.
The secondary characters are great as well. I loved her Gran. Her gay best friend, Gregory and her waitress co-worker/friend Sylvie. All of them could probably star in their own novels.
The plot is pretty well laid out in the synopsis you have probably already read. A mysterious man, who signs his note with only "M", runs into a sweet little waitress, Livy, and makes her an astounding offer. Spend one night with him, 24 hours, and he will worship her body, making sure she has experiences she will never forget. As you can imagine, things escalate from there. Of course one night is not going to be enough, for either of them. But they both have terrible secrets. Will these secrets tear them apart? Can they overcome their pasts in order to have a future together.
Of course I can't answer these questions for you, but I can tell you that this book does not wrap up their story. We will all have to wait for the sequel, One Night - Denied, due to be published in November, 2014, to find out what happens next. I, for one, cannot wait.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 One Night Promised by Jodi Ellen Malpas 23 août 2014
Par Louisse @ The Soul Sisters - Publié sur
You know that moment when you are eagerly anticipating a new release from one of the authors you absolutely adore but upon cracking that new book open and reading all 400+ pages of it you realize how much you did not like it and were just forcing yourself to read it all? Well, that was what it was like for me. While I may have enjoyed Jodi Ellen Malpas' This Man trilogy, One Night Promised was definitely not for me. One Night Promised had a pretty strong start, the prologue was enough to keep me reading and had me asking a lot of questions, but as the story went on, pretty much everything crashed and burned, in my opinion.

First let us talk about the protagonist, Livy, a beautiful girl who lives with her grandmother, works at a coffee shop and has a fabulously gay best friend but oh my goodness, please, just stop. More than half of the book was her saying "no" to "M" and then giving in after 5 seconds of denying him. She was so childish and I pretty much wanted to smack her all the time. BUT Malpas tried to redeem Livy by giving her a really sordid and crazy background that did not have its desired effect on me but might have worked for other people (the shock effect was just not there). Just warning you, her "secret" was really predictable. Sigh.

Next, onto the mysterious "M", who does not even stay mysterious, at all. You will be given his name about forty pages into the book (and trust me, it is not a sexy name). I have never been so creeped out and annoyed at a potential book boyfriend before. Let me list the things that turned me off about "M":
He gave off stalker vibes and not in an attractive way. No matter how hot you are and no matter how much you like someone, you never follow someone around like that or badger them. If it were me, I would have had a restraining order put on his crazyass but here is the crazy part, it was kind of like Livy liked it. Maybe some girls are into that but just, no.
He just can not take a "no". I have no idea how many times I have seen Livy tell him no but he was relentless. When a girl tells you "no", she means "no" no matter how much her body might seem to want you or whatever. Get it through your head, man.
His bluntness borders on offensive. I do not think I would ever be with a guy who tells me that he wants exactly 24 hours of my time just to rock my world. Nor would I ever be with a guy who talks to me the way "M" speaks to Livy. Sorry, I am not that easy. He was way too emotionally unattached as well. Like, hello, am I speaking to a Lego block or a person? I could not tell the difference.
Other than the very questionable characters in this book, I felt that One Night Promised was a bit to reminiscent of the This Man trilogy. If you changed the name of the characters into Eva and Jesse, it would be like reading the same series except in a different scenario. The love scenes were boring and very repetitive, the story went around in circles and the cast in general did not impress me.

I will say this: One Night Promised had one redeeming quality, its ending. It felt like Malpas' last ditch effort to save her book because maybe even she knew that it was not that good. The way Malpas ended it guaranteed that the reader will want to read the next one, and yes, that also applies to me. She managed to squeeze in one last bomb that even I did not expect and one that left me very curious. So I will reluctantly be waiting for the second book, I am certainly hoping that the next one will be better than its predecessor.

I really wish that I enjoyed this book more but I would be lying to everyone if I said that I liked it. And you will not see me recommending this to anyone anytime soon. Read at your own risk, I guess.
