Readers say.......

"The best way to know what is in your food is to grow your own when you can. And if you are planning to go organic, making your own compost is a must. This short but information-packed ebook from Dr. John Stone breaks down (no pun intended) the ins and outs of making your own compost. There are ten chapters therein, including reason why you should make your own compost, things to consider when buying a compost bin, common composting problems and how to make your own compost, among several other topics. Each section is thoroughly detailed and idiot-proof, written in plain, easy-to-follow language. If you are interested in organic food gardens or just improving your lawn while being kind to Mother Earth, I highly recommend downloading a copy of this handy little guide".......horrorgirldonna

As a keen gardener I found Dr. Stone's book not only very useful, but also intensely interesting. Although I was an agricultural research technician for over 17 years, I still learned many things from this book.
This book will be useful both to beginners and to more experienced gardeners, and I recommend it without any hesitation.

This is a very handy guide to how to get started with composting. I've been composting many years, and I can vouch for what the author says. Of course, for gardeners, the main reason to compost is to help improve your soil. Dr Stone explains how to produce a compost system or pile that will make compost as efficiently as possible. That means keeping it most, and turning with a pitchfork. It's a lot of fun to see all that rich, dark compost magically appear (well, okay, not magically), and you can blend it into your garden.

There's a good discussion on what type of container to use, such as a bin, or even digging a pit. At home, we use a "heap" in the side yard, which also works well. The author points out how important it is to keep the compost moist, like a sponge. If you start getting steam, that's great, because it means it's really heating up.

I also appreciate the fact that Dr Stone explains important restrictions on what to add to your compost pile. For example, no pet droppings, or meat. Adding these items into your compost would be a big mistake, but beginners sometimes make that mistake. The author also explains what to do if something goes awry, such as bad odor.

All in all, a really useful book, by someone who obviously has experience in this area. Recommend!

Now go out there and get that compost going!

As a raw foodie I have a lot of fruit and vegetable peels, pits and pulp from the juicer, which feels like such a waste to just throw in the garbage bin. Composting is a great way to give this 'waste' back to nature and make my neighbour happy with the compost for his garden :)

The author has written a complete guide to composting with everything you need to know, such as things you should and should not compost and how to solve common composting problems. Thank you!
