Présentation de l'éditeur

In Overlord, the stunning conclusion to the trilogy within the Event Group series that began with Event and continued with Legacy (fans' favorite titles), a time of war is upon humanity. The plans of a million years are finally ready for what has always been coming—Armageddon.  Finally, the first move is set in motion and the assassinations begin, eliminating the leadership and consolidating military control of the seas and airspace of the world’s most powerful nations. Only one element in the arsenal of the world can possibly give the Earth a fighting chance at survival---a tiny being that has already saved the world once in the Arizona desert is now called upon to outthink his former masters.
The one entity on the planet that refuses to accept the inevitable defeat of humankind, The Event Group, is suffering from losses of military personnel and being torn apart by internal conflict. The Group also faces a threat that may be far more dangerous to Earth’s survival than the attacks from deep space--their old enemies have returned to take revenge and the worst fears of Department 5656 are realized—a breach in security allows intruders to get at the secrets inside the complex in Nevada.  As the war wages on, countries fall, nations fight to the last man, and the fate of planet depends on a few good men and women in this action-packed thrill ride from New York Times bestselling author David Golemon.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Overlord Does not Disappoint 19 juillet 2014

I have awaited this book and the author did not disappoint. This is a wild ride through the alien apocalypse like you would not believe. I was disappointed with COl Collins goal of murdering the killer of his sister rather than bringing him to justice--something I believe a man with his integrity and commitment would do, but the author chose another path so I am anxious to see in future volumes, if there are any, how this will be played out. Henri; he is as he is. And I hope some future volume will resolve the loss of one of the most heroic characters now lost in the past. I struggled to put this book down as my daily life is filled with other projects and other commitments, but I took my Kindle with me and every free moment I had, including some earmarked for rest, wound up devoted to the adventure of the Event group. I heartily recommend this to any fan of military, espionage, apocalyptic, or Alien wars. Like the Operation Overlord from WWII, this story is worth the time.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Needs to Revisit Civics Lesson 23 juillet 2014

2 stars off because Mr. Golemon and the editor should revisit their ninth grade civics class - with a stopover in geography class. I can't believe that research errors of what should be common knowledge get through. Speakers of the House are NOT senators - senators are in the Senate, hence the name. Also Israel is NOT south of Iran - it is due west. I'm not done yet and may update this, just keep finding his references really annoying.
4.0 étoiles sur 5 Love the Series... Wish the Main Character was Better 28 juillet 2014

What is fun about these books is the over-the-top situations. The event group series takes us through many mythologies and histories... Filled with action and imagination. I really enjoy reading the series.

There is one thing that continually takes me out of each of these stories... The character of Jack Collins.

Jack Collins role at the event group has been that of chief of security. Unfortunately, during his tenure the event group complex has been breached at least twice. That alone suggests his security measures have not been effective... When you consider the decades the event group complex has existed without having been breached, this failure becomes even more significant.

In one of the recent books before Overlord, Jack Collins is the one who has a tracker placed on him by an enemy agent. Jack Collins doesn't even realize he is carrying the tracker that leads the enemies directly to event group complex. Seriously... The head of security has no countermeasures for a simple tracking device?

I mention all of this to support what I'm about to say. In the story we are asked to believe that Jack Collins is one of the most elite, strategic leaders the world has to offer. In this story alone so much is placed on his shoulders to lead the defense of earth. Unfortunately, there really isn't any evidence in this series to suggest Jack Collins is particularly suited for such a role.

In this story alone, Jack Collins spends more than half the book either seeking out to murder the person who killed his sister, defying orders to the contrary, riding in planes to a destination he is clueless about and put in charge of executing on a plan he is completely in the dark about.

Even in this book, we don't see anything in Jack Collins behavior to suggest he is the leader that the world needed during the crisis presented in the story. What we are given is the opinions of other characters that Jack Collins is this amazing leader. What they reference as evidence is his behavior in previous stories.

But if you go back over those stories and really analyze Jack Collins performance, you see a person who does not lead, jumps into conflict situations without a plan and typically only survives by luck not strategy.

I really do enjoy reading these stories, but I find myself having to make significant suspensions of disbelief in order to accept Jack Collins' character as a leader.

After reading Legacy, I couldn't wait for Overlord. Definitely not a disappointment. After reading Mr. Goldman's other works I set my calender alarm for July 15th to remind me of an Event issue. For what I didn't like, there was too much "compartmantizing" (secrecy for the sake of secrecy ). All things considered the bulk of the story more than made up for this. I would definitely recommend this book to any fan of Clive Cussler or David Webber. Between the books Event,Legacy, and Overlord, Mr Golemon has redefined the term "Scope" Well done and certainly worth the money. Overlord was MY summer vacation this year.
