This book was valuable for looking through the window to creating PDF files. But I found that the version of PDFlib it is based on is, at least at my server company, no longer in use. A lot has changed and that will drive you to locate other references. Also, it will walk you through the very basics, which is great, but after that you're on your own.
Look for a used copy that is cheap if you need this kick-start. After this short read you will be forced to accomplish what you need to do from other references. I am using the documentation that is included for free with the PDFlib download.

This book answered everything I needed to know about using PDFlib. The other reviews say it is a bit thin, and that's true. It's not over-full with examples, it's not bursting with "facts" or "information" but it still guides you through the process of giving birth to your very first PDF. And what's more important than that? Nothing.

Wish I hadn't wasted my time... This book is thin and good examples (and just plain thin...). After more research, I found that a better solution for me (instead of PDFlib) was FPDF ([...]). I just needed to be able to create PDFs from scratch using Php and I think that PDFLib was overkill.
