2.0 étoiles sur 5 Recipes don't work! 31 mars 2014

I have tried several of these recipes and most of them are a flop! I measure with a scale and most of the time I have to throw away the final result. I had to go on-line to find a good Paleo Bread recipe and I have found several that really work! This book was a waste of my money and all of the ingredients are very expensive so you waste even more when you have to throw away the finished product. When a recipe calls for you to roll the dough and it is soup, that tells you that there is something wrong. I bake all the time and this book is so off that I am surprised that no one noticed it before. Don't buy this book just go on-line for any Paleo Bread recipes and don't get recipes from Amee Anderson!

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Don't make the carrot cake! 19 mai 2014

This review is based on the carrot cake recipe--the only recipe from this book that I have tried.

I'm new to gluten free baking, so after getting this book I decided to try what looked like the easiest sweet bread recipe: carrot cake. The ingredients looked simple enough, nothing too strange or hard to come by, with coconut flour being the only ingredient I had to go out to buy. As I started to mix the ingredients, I thought "wow, this is really dry!", but figured that it must be normal in gluten free baking. I followed the recipe to the T, but when I pulled it out of the oven, even though it smelled delicious, I knew that there was something really wrong with my carrot cake.

The cake was dry, really dry, so dry that it was crumbling apart. It looked like sand and tasted only a little better than sand. There was no flavor, it dried out my mouth, and I couldn't even finish a single slice (if you could call a spoonful of crumbs a slice). I ended up giving the rest of my serving to my dog, who eats anything including horse poop, but even he promptly spit it out.

If others find this book helpful, worth the purchase, then good for them. As for me, I'm not willing to waste any more time and money making recipes that may or may not be edible.

Bought this book today and tried the almond butter bread, realizing after starting the recipe that there is no almond butter or any almonds in it at all. While it was tasty, it was very low, certainly not for slicing unless you sliced the whole top off LOL. I have been doing a lot of primal and paleo baking and hope to add to my repertoire. I hope the other recipes turn out better and are not mislabelled as this one was. Have any other reviewers actually made any of the recipes????

no! no! no! no! no!
This is my first day doing Paleo, and the carrot cake was the first recipe I tried. I knew I would need something sweet to keep me on this diet.
There was no 'batter' to fold anything in to, it was dry & crumbly, & of course, it would not 'pour' into the pan.
I had even sifted the coconut flour. I triple checked the recipe, and I had it correct. I tried adding moe eggs, and more coconut oil, but ended up adding water to it to get it to a passable consistancy. It was inedible. I especially hated the fact that I wasted all these ingredients, this stuff isn't cheap. I am NOT trying anymore recipies from this book. Maybe if I had used wheat flour, it might have turned out. From what I've read, coconut flour takes more liquid than wheat flour. Maybe this was a recipe that was converted from another recipe, without allowing for that fact. Consider yourself warned.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 once again, it's disappointing 2 juillet 2014

First, a disclaimer....I'm most definitely NOT Paleo! As a matter of fact, I think strict Paleo is a little silly. Celiac diets are another matter and I respect that; a life-threatening disease is something entirely different from what I consider something of a fad. Okay, rant mode off. The reason I got this is because I am wheat-sensitive, NOT gluten-sensitive. I have no problem with other gluten-containing grains. However, it is very difficult to find bread recipes that are wheat-free so I end up with gluten-free or Paleo recipes, like as not. Sorting the recipes out from the preaching is difficult enough, but then there is the problem of difficult to obtain ingredients. So, typically, this falls into the category of "just okay" because it has some of both problems. Although there is a recipe for hamburger buns that looks promising. Just.....could writers of Paleo cookbooks PLEASE refrain from saying that such-and-such is "not allowed" on a Paleo diet? We are adults here, not naughty children!
