Love the practical approach of this book: exercises that you can incorporate into your routine anywhere - no fancy equipment needed. And you can do an exercise here or there when you have time, in the event that you can't carve out a full 30-60 minutes for a "workout." Highly recommended!

Ok, folks, THIS is the fitness book for which we've all been waiting! Use your body, get to know your body, feel the earth with your feet and the sunshine on your face! Get outside and use what is already provided for you. You don't HAVE to go to that high traffic, machine-ridden gym. You don't HAVE to run 5 miles a day. You don't HAVE to do anything but have fun and remember how to play like a child!

Darryl Edwards has given us a great tool. His no-nonsense explanations of nutrition and exercise are unrivaled; he makes this seem easy, and, when you read it, you believe that it CAN be easy. From his explanations of different types of movements, to his 25 attributes to all-around fitness, his plan will get you moving, stronger, healthier, and ready to handle whatever our modern life may throw at you! I can't recommend this book enough!

I think this book is great. The author shows how one can build strong muscles by utilizing his or her own body weight. The book uses two models, one female and one male, to demonstrate the exercises - showing that the exercises can be done by women.

A few of the many exercises include:
Walking around backwards on hands and feet
Holding a squat with arms stretched
Alternating opposite knee to elbow touch (turning movements work core)
Virtual jump rope
Various dips and push ups
Several reps of quickly getting up and sitting back down
Pushing a bag above the head

These exercises are well described in words and with photos. They are fun and suitable for any fitness level by doing as many or as few reps of each as necessary and as many or as few of the exercises as possible.

The book also begins with a Paleo diet primer, includes a meal plan, and exercise program with worksheet.
In short, I think this book is great. It teaches that methods, weights, and routines are not necessary and that moving your body in natural ways is all that is needed to get fit and stay healthy.

There are a whole lot of books out today about the Paleo Lifestyle - and most of them start with diet but give fitness a bit of a short straw. Darryl Edwards has reversed this, acknowledging that other books cover the diet aspect of this healthy lifestyle more than adequately and attacking fitness from a Paleo paradigm. Fitness should not simply be about getting stronger or getting better endurance, but rather should be a celebration of movement of all types, injected with a huge dose of fun with a goal of enduring mobility and long-term function.

Edwards naturally begins with a great, simple overview of the Paleo framework for diet, which only makes sense as all real health and weight loss begins with diet.

But the real treasure of this book is his workout program, full of full-body exercises that challenge fitness but also ensure that proper movement is the goal. And speaking of goals, goal-setting using the S.M.A.R.T. framework is the first portion of the fitness section, making sure that all fitness begins with the proper mindset.

Many of the exercises presented are familiar exercises, and many of them will be new to those who are new to the concept of movement-based exercise. The various groups of movement exercises are explained clearly, examples are given of ways to increase intensity on each exercise, and proper active rest is stressed (both between "sets" of exercises as well as active rest days). And a key component of the program is that FUN should be had at all times! Partner exercises are given their important section as well - increasing the fun factor.

The programs in the book start at a basic level, and increase in intensity and difficulty at a very good pace. There's nothing too hard here for a beginner, and there is plenty of variety and intensity to keep a person interested on an ongoing basis.

I would be more than comfortable handing this book out as a primer to Paleo fitness to anyone, as it contains both the basic concepts and a wonderful program for getting one's self into great shape from the standpoint of both movement fitness and general preparedness.

What's in the book, literally:
- Practical overview of paleo eating with lists of what to eat, what not to eat, and why
- Two week paleo meal plan with 20 delicious recipes
- Weekly programming with exercises for different levels of fitness/sophistication
- 60+ exercises ranging from the basics, like pull-ups and chair dips, to kangaroo jumps and the Dracula carry, all designed to be performed with minimal/no equipment, with photo demonstrations.
- References to studies, index of fitness terminology

What's in the book philosophically:
Edwards defines paleo fitness as playtime. The goal is not to work out, but to play out, to increase your level of and love for fitness by turning it into playtime and by integrating more movement in your daily routine. After an examination of why this is important to overall health, Edwards' book gives you the tools you need in order to execute it successfully.

This book comes with my high recommendation.

Darryl is a seriously awesome guy who has the near mystical ability to get adults to act like kids. I've had the opportunity to attend several of his workouts and I'm completely blown away by his never ending energy, passion for fitness and superhuman strength. He isn't afraid to challenge the biggest and burliest CrossFitter to push him around, and I've yet to see him lose. The dude's got dance moves too! His book is a great resource for anyone who wants to take their Paleo lifestyle to a new level by adding interesting and intense exercise but its also straightforward enough for even for a Paleo newcomer to enjoy and appreciate. If you ever get a chance, you have to go to one of his in person workshops, but if you can't, Paleo Fitness is the next best thing!
