Présentation de l'éditeur

Cinderella and Prince Charming never had to consider the welfare of their children

When widower Tyler Fitzpatrick meets Annie Barnes at his daughter’s school, his libido goes tilt. The sexy single mother is everything he and his grieving little girl need. Unfortunately, Annie flatly refuses his dinner invitation. She wants a husband and a father for her son—not just a boyfriend. And the last time she checked, wealthy, summa-cum-laude lawyers didn’t marry high-school-drop-out housekeepers.

Tyler concedes there’s a vast difference between their experiences and lifestyles. Still, he’s inexplicably drawn to the impoverished young woman—even though her little boy reminds Tyler of an underprivileged past he’d rather forget. While becoming better acquainted, he offers Annie a job caring for his daughter and home in Redemption, PA. He also proposes a Parent Pact—an agreement to become role models to each other’s child and to fill one another’s needs as single parents while they continue to search for true love.

Accepting Tyler’s offer would solve a lot of Annie’s problems. However, surrendering to her weak-in-the-knees attraction to the irresistible widower could very well leave her and her son heartbroken. Yet, when circumstances threaten her ability to feed her child, Annie reluctantly agrees to the pact, making it clear she has no desire for Tyler to fill her so-called needs in bed. It’s a bald-faced lie, but she knows the man’s desperation to give his daughter the nurturing she needs will compel him to accept a purely platonic relationship.

Now, Annie’s only problem is resisting the overwhelming temptation to let sin-in-a-tailored-suit Tyler seduce her.

I came across this through Book Bub's free ebook offers, and I thought the premise had promise. I saw all the 5-star reviews and so decided to give this a try. What a disappointment. It started out ok but all too soon I found the situations contrived and drawn out for the sake of stretching the book. I kept rolling my eyes throughout and towards the end was just skimming to find out how it ended. I wanted to bash the characters' heads in, particularly the heroine's.

She keeps denying her attraction to him, then when she finally gives in, she stops short of the act - yeah, right, and pretty cornball. She's effectively a "virgin" but when she FINALLY decides to go all the way, suddenly she's acting like the women she's read about in her romance books? Doesn't ring true. And the catty Paula's character changes rather abruptly - not enough character building there, which I thought was a missed opportunity as she started out as such a cliche, but I eventually became more interested in her. I liked that the author decided to give her more depth, but the transition was just too abrupt for me.

There was enough in the book to keep me reading so I could feel justified about writing a review. The kids were okay, and I enjoyed Tyler's friends - in fact, I was more interested in finding out if Sabrina and Ben would end up together. Overall, the writing isn't bad, but I didn't find it good enough to like the book. I don't read much romance as I find it difficult to wade through so much dreck to find the few gems, and though I wouldn't classify this as trash, it's definitely not a jewel. I'm glad I didn't spend money on it, and felt there should at least be one dissenting review to balance out the raves, as a red flag for those with tastes similar to mine.

Okay, so Cinderella didn't have an adorable son, and Prince Charming lacked a precocious daughter, but Annie fits the glass slipper in many other ways. A young unwed mother, she's struggling to take care of a son conceived courtesy of slimeball who preferred drugs to charm. Even so, Annie adores her boy, but raising him on what she, a high-school drop-out, can earn, has her finite resources stretched to the limit. When she meets Prince . . . er . . . Tyler, she figures he's hitting on her thinking she's easy. His tailored suits and fancy car shout he's not only out of her league but out of her galaxy.

Tyler has his share of troubles---not the least of which is a young daughter mourning her dead mother and in dire need of some maternal TLC. Despite his attraction to Annie, he wants to do the right thing by his child and, after some amusing missteps, manages to employ Annie as housekeeper-cum-nanny. Familiarity breeds anything but contempt as these two struggle to overcome societal and psychological barriers while putting their children first.

Two caring parents, each blessed with a child of the opposite sex, strive to provide appropriate role models and a nurturing environment for the children while dancing around their own desires. It's a tango for the ages, sizzling with restrained passions as these two try to choreograph their way to the perfect happily ever after.

Once again, Kellogg has written a novel that I can't put down, despite all the to-do's on my list. Have yet to read one of her novels that I didn't finish within 24 hours. The Parent Pact wins your heart from page one with Kellogg's wit and loveable characters. Kellogg's stories are the reason we love romance.

I love Laurie's books. The stories are always very good with characters you can relate to. In this book a successful lawyer falls for a high school drop out single mother. Her issues go much deeper than that. You can see where this couple is going to have some major issues to work through. There are lessons to learn and things to think about that you can take into your own life. I always feel good after finishing Laurie's books. I like a happy ending and I want to feel good when I turn that last page. I highly recommend this book. I throughly enjoyhed it and I am sure you will too.

What happens when Cinderella meets Prince Charming get together? Sparks fly and humor abounds, of course! Well, at least in Laurie Kellogg's version of the story. While lighter than the previous Redemption novels, Kellogg still delivers characters you can't help but be enchanted by. Funny, witty, and sexy, "The Parent Pact" is a great read for those of us who never really outgrew fairy tales.
