Dear Friend,

My name is Pablo and I'm about to reveal to you my proven strategies and methods that will help you gain a far better understanding of your perfectionism as well as the steps you'll need to take in order to eliminate it from your life FOREVER.

I know what it’s like to be a perfectionist. I have been struggling with it for years and it robbed me of all the joy or success in my life. It manifested itself across all areas of both my professional and personal life, most notably in the work place and in relationships with other people. I used to constantly feel like a failure and often times felt like being my worst enemy. I was regularly beating myself up and hated myself for who I was as a person. My life was not fuelled by passion but by fear. The fear of making mistakes. The fear of failure. I found it incredibly hard to deal with uncertainty and was constantly worrying about the future instead of staying in the moment. I lost myself in details rather than focusing on the big picture. I set myself unrealistically high standards and judged my entire self-worth and self-esteem in terms of my productivity. Does this feel like you?

In this book I share with you some of my PROVEN STRATEGIES that have not only worked for me but the THOUSANDS of men and women that I have worked with as a life coach. This book is full of fresh, original and powerful concepts that are backed by YEARS of my own personal research and my own real world experience, along with the experiences of all the people that have APPLIED its core principles into their lives. In short, the principles taught in this book WORK. It’s up to you to put them into ACTION. Don’t be a talker. Be a DOER. Don't just read this book. IMPLEMENT some of the methods and strategies into your own life. It's not a 300 page book but a quick action guide. So TAKE ACTION NOW and remember that Imperfect Action Is Always Better Than Perfect Inaction! Strive For Excellence, Not Perfection!

I have to admit being a perfectionist, and it is exhausting at times. I was able relate to the writer very well.
Maybe this book was the one thing I had to read, as it gave me a clearer understand of how to overcome this urgent need for perfection.

I have learned:
It is not important to be perfect, it is good thou to strife for being good..
Trying to be perfect, can and does damage my relationship, and I am responsible for it....so accept praise, but return it as well.
Things don't have to be done to my 'perfect' standards, I am not loosing an arm if they are not done the way I want to control them.
The sky will not fall down, the worst (that I assume) will not happen.
...and much more.
I started practicing, to question my perfectionistic thoughts as soon as I become aware of them, and I am thankful for the helpful tips and steps provided.

And it hit me like a hammer on my head, there is not only 'one way' to fold towels (for many it might be funny, but for me it was like no one can fold them like me)

I found this book to be brilliant, by opening my eyes in many of my daily tasks, where I put so much stress into and want it done 'my way, or now way'. It helped me to understand, that those little details, don't really have the importance I am putting in them. And I must say its kinda embarrassing to get.
I know I am going to read this book a few more times, just to remind myself and to fully get what it means, and to change my habits, but I am sure this book is a big stepping stone for me, a new beginning.

If you struggle like me, and stress out just because the fork and knife have to be just exact the same with apart for everyone, and the plate has to be exact 1 inch away from the edge of the table, then this book is for you as well. I highly recommend it, you will not be disappointed.

Overall it's an interesting and lighting quick read with some great ideas. I especially enjoyed idea of purposely making mistakes just to show your inner self that it's OK to make mistakes.

But the author made several trade-offs in trimming the length of the book that, IMHO, decrease the quality of this book.

1) He leaves out his personal story. Basically he says "Here's a checklist of what a perfectionist does. I did all those things. Now I don't, and you can too!" But...what happened to the middle? The inevitable struggle, confusion, wandering, set backs? Not only can his story be instructional, it can be inspirational too.

2) He briefly talks about what a life with excellence instead of perfectionism can be like, but then doesn't really talk about how to move toward that. Instead the rest of the book, unsurprisingly, is focused on moving away from perfectionism. But I believe that we always need a positive goal. Ex, instead of you're quitting smoking, you're going to experience clear breathing, white teeth, and uninterrupted experiences with family and friends.

3) He doesn't really address WHY people are perfectionists and empathize with this, short of saying he was once himself. For example, he basically says "quit going for perfection, just 80/20 everything". I was a former consultant, I've heard this line 10 million times and I understand it. But emotionally, I feel agony and emptiness when I do something just "good enough". I feel like I'm betraying a core part of myself. If I follow his approach, I'd essentially have to suppress the emotions, and there's no discussion on this, the consequences, or strategies to work through.

It contains lots of practical advice to deal with problems linked to perfectionism. It is very helpful to me as parents of an extremely perfectionistic child. I wish I would have had it sooner.
This is a must have book!

For me the most valuable part of this book was actually the first chapter which explained why one must strive for excellence and NOT for perfection.

Perfectionism is something that can really hold you back to live the life you actually deserve, but as long as you are ready to learn from your own mistakes and use this book as your guide, you will learn how to overcome it.

I don't consider myself a perfectionist but I suppose that is something I'll think about more now that I've read this book. Lots of good advise here of the common sense sort that puts it all into perspective when someone lays it out for you to read. I'd never even heard of maladaptive perfectionism or considered procrastination a sign of perfectionism (my own problem I suppose). Now I have a better idea of what signs to look for and ways I hold myself back due to perfectionism. A good read for those of us who are always talking to ourselves about ourselves.
