Pike's Quest [Format Kindle]

I loved this book. At most parts you will feel like you're a bystander to the conversations and scenes that unfold. You're tempted to join and you catch yourself laughing out loud. For anyone who wants a good book to escape into a whole other world AND have a good time, then this book is definitely for you.

I am so glad I took a chance on this book and this indie author because this book was terrific!! K.J. Bennett has created a whole world set well in the future (called the New Dawn), with a quirky cast of characters that I can just describe as hilarious! Pike is the main character who is told by Moorlock the Warlock that he is destined to go on a quest to save the world - yes, the world! His journey will take him across hazardous terrain, to the Pit of Zidor, where he will claim the heart of a fair maiden, and free Moorlock from where he is trapped. The only problem is that Pike is a very poor, simple teen from a very small village, who knows nothing of the world. He won't have to go it alone though. He is to be accompanied by a horse named Horse and a sparrow named Robyn, both of whom he can communicate with. They are both snarky and sarcastic and the three of them together are so much fun to read about! As if that's not enough, he is being followed by Scarlet Deadnight, an assassin who was sent to make sure that he does not complete his quest. She finds herself growing to admire him, but that only means that she will not torture him TOO much before she kills him instead of drawing it out for her own amusement!

I enjoyed this book so much that I couldn't stop reading it once I started! I seriously blame Mr. Bennett for how tired I am today because I stayed up half the night finishing Pike's Quest!

K.J. Bennett is a new writer to keep your eye on, because I see good things happening to him, and great books coming from him, in the future. If this book is any indication of his writing ability, I will be first in line to read his next book!

K.J Bennett is a masterful writer. With a skillful use of language he has created quirky, lovable characters, all of whom made me laugh hysterically. From the little hamlet of Ooze, crusty-faced Pike ventures forth, the seventh son of a seventh son, to carry out his destiny. Along the way he is joined by Horse and Robyn (a dear sparrow). Together they face giant sabre-toothed worm thingies, Winglekrats and stinking Peat Bogs of Lanklanddishire. There are wonderfully vicious villains, warlocks and seemingly innocent flowers that eat flesh. Pike's Quest will enchant you, amuse you and, with graphic detail, make you grimace. This is all in good fun, a quest I highly recommend for young adults and anyone else who appreciates such fine writing. The book is exciting - a true fantasy - and it will not disappoint. I wish Mr. Bennett well with his sequel. I, for one, will be there.
