Présentation de l'éditeur

Although the Western world has been undergoing its greatest herbal renaissance in over a century, the medicinal actions of trees are often overlooked, perhaps none more so than pine. Given the drive for a new herb-of-the-day that will simulate excitement in the general populace (e.g. rhodiola, maca), it is astonishing that pine has been unrecognized for so long. This is particularly perplexing since the pollen of pine trees has been used for millennia in China and Korea as both food and a particularly powerful tonic and adaptogen, especially for the elderly. The fairly recent realization that it is a powerful phytoandrogen (that is, a plant that contains testosterone) has probably done the most to stimulate contemporary interest in the herb. The pollen’s androgenic actions are due to a number of substances, not just the testosterone and other male steroids it possesses. In short, pine pollen is a potent, complex, source of natural androgens, including testosterone, and androgen mimics. It is a great nutritional source, especially of amino acids, vitamins and minerals and is an excellent general tonic for the human body, useful in preventing or alleviating a number of conditions common to aging.

HASH(0x94ba48f4) étoiles sur 5 Too short, too little 3 janvier 2014

While I have totally enjoyed other of Buhner's books, this one was disappointing. It contains a cute description of his experience collecting pine pollen, chapters full of the healthy molecules contained in pine pollen and their healthful effects (reads like the back of a bottle or a research report), a recipe to make pine pollen tincture and three recipes to use it as food in pancakes, etc. (hint: just replace some of the flour in your pancakes) along with a general thumbs-up for pine pollen. I was expecting more of the spiritual understanding of people and plants I found in his other books. I was expecting to hear about how he has used it and its results on real people. The book was short, way too short and most of it was the results of his research about scientific properties of same, stuff I suppose I could find on internet. It wasn't personal, it wasn't real and it contained far too little. But I will continue to read more of Buhner.

Excellent dual book of understanding. Easy for the layperson with chapters on chemical components for the compounding herbalist to fascinating sections for the nutritional ust and traditional herbalist to master herbalist.
Easy reading with parts that some will either skip or wade through. If I were teaching; this would definitely be one of the texts that I'd use.

A great review about what pine pollen is, what it does and how to take it. Especially useful information on to prepare tinctures from the pollen itself.Highly recommended.

HASH(0x94b98e94) étoiles sur 5 Stephen Buhner never fails to provide incredible insights to the forgotten natural world 11 mai 2013

This book is remarkably SHORT in length for a (especially recent) Stephen Buhner effort - but it does not at all disapoint or "fall" SHORT of brilliant insights regarding it's stated topic. Accordingly - this book continues the long line Stephen's phenomenal and insightful efforts about our health, and our planet - and the ONLY reason my little review here is dwelling on the length of the book - is that I love everything Stephen shares with the world, and when it comes to Stephen, I am in a perpetual state of always want more. With each new book from Stephen I, and no doubt countless others devour each word like a hungry mama bear looking for her first meal, after having just stepped out of the den for the first time after an extra brutal long winter.

Indeed - each new book Stephen blesses the world with is loaded with fabulous insights. Very often - and I'll go so far as to say "without fail"- when reading a book of his there will also be other little gem of "off-topic" factual treasures found within ....valueble information that you'll never find any where else. I just love how Stephen will occasionally consciously take liberty and choose to deviate off a central topic just to share an unrelated interesting little fact - illustrative of just how much Stephen is living a life totally in "the flow" with an acute understanding of the inate intelligence of the natural planet. What I mean by this - and for lack of a better example (that comes to mind while I write this) sometimes Stephen will share some "other" off-topic benefits of a particular plant medicine or herb completely unrelated to the overall topic of the book at hand within. Weeks or even years later you'll find a life situation present itself, where you'll think back and then recall one of these odd little facts, and it will turn up highly useful.

In-other-words even if you're among the roughly 51% of the world that don't have a prostate gland and/or don't produce semen, it will still be very worthwhile for you to read a book on a topic like this when it's authored by Stephen Buhner- because aside from the central topic you will be learning tremendously valueble and interesting things things about the planet and also more about Stephen himself - for whom I could make a very very strong argument is THE REAL "MOST INTERESTING MAN ALIVE".

Stephen is simply awesome - but don't just take my word for it - read the book and decide for yourself, you'll never be sorry for having lent your time to one of his books, no matter how irrelevant you might think the book's centraltopic might be to your specific own life circumstances.
