Présentation de l'éditeur

After Elizabeth Bennet refuses Mr. Darcy's offer of marriage, it takes a heavy toll on him. He withdraws to London and disappears near the docks, away from family, friends, and acquaintances. When he is mistaken for an escaped pirate, he is thrust into an adventure he would never have imagined. Will this be what he needs to forget the one woman he had come to love?

When her aunt and uncle have to cancel their plans to tour the Lake District, Elizabeth Bennet has the opportunity to sail to the Isles of Scilly with her father. After a pleasant visit, the voyage home brings storms, a shipwreck, and pirates! When she is rescued by gallant Captain Smith, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him. What will she do when she discovers he is the very man whose offer of marriage she refused just a few months earlier?

Kara Louise is one of my favorite authors but this storyline appeared to be too weird for me. Fortunately I read another review that gave me the courage to read it and I do not regret it. It’s a great book!

The story is indeed very different and difficult to believe in the beginning, however, as we continue to read, it becomes more believable.

For me 2 main premises seamed strange before I read the book, the way the author wrote them was actually believable.

First – Mr. darcy portraying a pirate? Yes, it sounds strange, but the book explains how this could happen very well, and it is actually charming. It is not that strange as it might appear if you have not read the book.

Second – Elizabeth does not recognize the man who purposed to her only 2 months ago? Again, it sounds strange, but it is very easy to believe it. When she sees Mr. Darcy impersonating a pirate, he has long hair, long beard, and an injury above his eye which is completely covered. Apart from that, he speaks as a commoner (something he learned before) and is in the Mediterranean, so it is not obvious that it could be Mr. Darcy. Also, she always things something is wrong, that he appears to be familiar, and discovers his true identity only after a couple of days. So if you’re thinking about not reading the book just because of these 2 premises, give it a shot. The author is very good and did a great job explaining everything so the book is actually believable.

For me, the strangest thing in the story is the fact that the characters only take 2 or 3 days to go from Italy to England by boat.

The book is very good.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Welcome to the Jane Austen Popcorn Extravaganza! 31 mai 2013
Par Angie Kroll - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle|Achat vérifié
What was the first thought I had when finishing this novel? This story should come with a bag of popcorn and a package of Twizzlers.

Pirates and Prejudice takes Austen's beloved characters and sets them on the high seas. Darcy has let himself go after Lizzy's refusal of his marriage proposal. No, seriously...he's let himself go. So much, that he's mistaken for a ruthless pirate. Darcy agrees to help the authorities capture the pirate by impersonating him. Soon, his path crosses Elizabeth and her father. She doesn't recognize him, but he sure reminds her of someone with which she once had mistaken impressions.

The author at times seems more like a cinematographer and screenwriter. I stopped in the middle of the book to look up the Isle of Scilly, because I wanted to see the sunrise David, Elizabeth, and Melanie saw. This isn't so much a Pride and Prejudice variation as much as a summer popcorn movie. Does the premise seem a bit silly? Yes! Do we care? Heck, NO! Just pass the popcorn and watch Darcy/Errol Flynn sweep Elizabeth/Olivia de Havilland off of her feet.

It's a good thing that I don't have to wait till the novel comes out on DVD to 'see' it again!

Kara Louise is one of my favorite authors in the JAFF realm. She writes books with real romance in them that are clean and can be recommended to anyone (be it grandma or niece) without blushes. Her Darcy and Elizabeth characters are true to Jane Austen's and are a pleasure to read. All of her Pride and Prejudice variations are unique and even believable. I have long awaited her new release Pirates and Prejudice and it did not disappoint. It was true to her previous books in that it was full of beautiful romance, humor and delightful situations.

I could not put it down once I started it. Darcy as a pirate. How original. I bought this on a whim for a trip but ended up starting it beforehand and had to finish it. I will not go into a description of the book as that can be seen on the item description, but I loved the attention to detail and the fact that this is something I could let my teenage daughter read without fear for her sensibilities. I have enjoyed other books by this author and can say I have not read a bad one yet. Well done Ms. Louise.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 dialog is excellent and the chemistry is electric... 20 juin 2013
Par jbtaylor - Publié sur Amazon.com
Fitzwilliam Darcy, tormented and haunted by the indignant words of Elizabeth Bennet's refusal of his hand, is in the depths of despair. Living in a room near the docks of London, he hasn't shaved or trimmed his beard in almost two months. Mistaken for an escaped pirate, Darcy is taken into custody and put in a cell. Unless he can convince someone of his true identity, he could be headed for the gallows. This does lead to some tense moments and is the beginning of Darcy's adventure... and what an adventure it is!

Darcy agrees to impersonate the infamous pirate, Lockerly, to aid the police in his capture. True to character Darcy treats his crew fairly and with compassion. He inspires their respect, admiration and willingness to do anything he asks of them. Darcy hopes beyond hope that this impersonation will aid him in forgetting the woman he loves. Little does Darcy know that his wild adventure will take him directly into the path and arms of Miss Elizabeth Bennet.

As fate would have it, Elizabeth Bennet and her father travel to the Isles of Scilly to visit Mr. Bennet's ailing sister. Elizabeth enjoys visiting with her much loved cousin, Melanie, and meeting a new handsome cousin. Will David Adams be the man Elizabeth could love or will Captain Smith win her heart? But what is there about Captain Smith that seems so familiar?

Much to my delight Darcy and Lizzy spend much time in the company of one. Although they are not thrown together in the beginning, as the necessary events of the story are unfolding, their first meeting is well worth the wait. The dialog is excellent and the chemistry is electric.

This book has it all...adventure, intrigue, pretense, romance, betrayal, love, even Lydia and Wickham and much, much more. The masquerade ball toward the end is exquisite! There was nothing I did not like about Pirates and Prejudice. I have been eagerly anticipating its release since I first learned about it in September 2012. It is outstanding and lived up to my expectations. I will be reading this one again and again! Thank you, Kara Louise for another exceptional book!

Just by the title I knew I would love this story, Pirates and Prejudice. Kara Louise has done it again with another sea faring Pride and Prejudice tale...err variation! I mean who doesn't love a good pirate story and throw Mr. Darcy in the mix...ok, I'm in love.

Darcy wants nothing more than to be left alone. Upset after Elizabeth refuses his marriage proposal he has withdrawn into London's seedier side of town. Unkept and drunk, Darcy is mistaken for the notorious Pirate Lockerly, and soon he finds himself on an adventure he'll never forget!

Instead of going with the Gardiners on a trip to the Lake District, Elizabeth and Mr. Bennet are sailing to the Isle of Scilly to visit Mr. Bennet's gravely ill sister. On their return voyage, their ship becomes caught up on some rocks during a storm. While the crew tries to fix the damage and free the ship from the rocks, the women are rowed over to a deserted island located near by. Unknown to them, there are also pirates on the island. When Elizabeth finds herself in the hands of the real Lockerly, it's Darcy to the rescue!

Darcy is a man who claims "disguise of every sort is my abhorrence" finds himself disguised as a pirate. As he struggles to shed his gentlemanly habits, Darcy is reminded of Elizabeth's accusation of his un-gentleman-like behavior.

Elizabeth does not recognize Darcy at first. He is introduced to her as Captain Smith. They get along well, and Darcy enjoys being with Elizabeth again. He dreads the day when the truth is revealed, and she goes back to disliking him again.

Darcy second proposal was lovely. It left me with that warm fuzzy feeling!

Shiver me timbers! I loved the pirate talk and the sword fight scenes! This swash-buckling adventure takes Pride and Prejudice on the high seas! Pirates and Prejudice is a fun read, and one that I will read again and again!

**I received a copy of the book for my honest review.**
