HASH(0xb23bf69c) étoiles sur 5 Pissing Razors are a force to be reckoned with... 4 mai 1998
Par Un client - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Pissing Razors rely heavily on the monster grooves that are created by the triumvirate of power formed from the fusion of the bass, drums, and guitar. Picture a river of burning hot lava pouring from the speakers of your stereo system, and you'll have a fairly accurate portrait of the "Pissing Razors' sound". Heavy? Absolutely. Confrontational? Have you ever seen a stream of lava with friendly intentions? And when you throw in the final element of impenetrable density, you have an unstoppable force coming your way. In other words, this thick, powerful, unstoppable force is exactly the right prescription for the half-hearted approach of top 40 radio fodder. This is a Heavy Metal band, and you better just deal with it.

Why aren't these guys up there with fear factory? Pissing razors are truly one of todays best metal bands. Every single song is awesome, except "sounds" because it's not actually a song, you'll see for yourself when you buy this album because I know you will. In my opinion I'd say they mostly sound like fear factory without the industrial sounds. The lead singer has a deep voice and he sometimes harmonizes his voice much like Burton C. Bell. This drummer is incredibly talented, he even wrote every song! If you like this album I would strongly reccommend you checking out substAnce d, who are also signed to Noise records and sound alot like the razors.

HASH(0x9c5ee618) étoiles sur 5 Hell raising anthems! 25 décembre 2000

Very cool, hard core rythum guitar hooks. My favorites are "Tortured" and "Where We Come From". The singer's voice is the perfect counterpart to the wall of guitars too. All that I can say is that listening to this disc has me good and ready to go out and raise hell! These dudes are poised for world domination.

I followed the band since they started playing at a local bar in their home town, El Paso, Tx. Eversince, I knew the boys had talent...This CD will be a a deep-down dirty reality check of what music is all about...The intensity of this record will knock you of the face of the earth...Be introduced to real talent and originality!

1998’s Pissing Razors is the self-titled breakthrough record from the defunct Texan Metal band, Pissing Razors. It was produced by Andy Sneap and released through Noise Records.

Imagine a world where the only albums that were ever released were Pantera’s Vulgar Display Of Power, Machine Head’s Burn My Eyes, Sepultura’s Chaos AD, Fear Factory’s Demanufacture and Prong’s Cleansing. Well, forgive the hyperbole but that is the world from which Pissing Razors seem to have came from. Ok, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, you can hear brief hints of Death Metal and Hardcore mixed in there too, but you get the picture.

If you are in the mood for ‘90s-sounding, Groove-laden, crunchy, post-Thrash with staccato double kick patterns, noisy unmelodic guitar solos and gruff barked vocals, then you’ve hit the jackpot. For someone hearing about the supposed genre of Groove Metal but finding it hard to find much of it actually about, here’s something else for you to try… Pissing Razors have the perfect formula in this regard.

Perhaps the most perfect examples of the band’s sound is the furious opener “Dodging Bullets,” the robotic “Permanent” and the punchy fast-paced “Where We Come From” (if you wonder whether or not you should pick up this record, try out those three tracks first. Other highlights include the adventurous “Desperado” which feels fairly progressive despite its very brief duration.

This is arguably the band’s best album. Joe Rodriguez is one of the better singers to have worked with the band, there isn’t too much filler and the material is performed with energy.

I think that maybe the reason Pissing Razors never broke as big as some of the other bands I mentioned (aside from things like luck and marketing) is that the band may have the perfect formula, the work ethic and talent… they are sadly missing a certain indefinable X-Factor that makes them larger than life and extra special. The riffs are great, but they aren’t that magic “wow, I’ve got to learn that riff myself” type of riff. There’s appropriate vocals, but there’s no obvious concert sing-along moments. The songwriting/structure is also often fairly complex which is slightly at odds with brief nature of the songs, and maybe a few less changes would make things flow better overall.

That being said, despite the fact that they aren’t as indefinably magic as some bigger bands, this is still a worthwhile effort (and one of the closest moments in their discography to that magical status). Its consistent and relatively filler-free. Its got a great guitar tone and a solid production. Its got varied, multifaceted tracks with a good amount of fast and slow, simple and complex, savage and restrained etc. …and did I mention the formula is absolutely killer?

I would recommend this album to fans of the aforementioned albums, as well as the ‘90s work of bands like Madball, Sick Of It All and Biohazard, or indeed of modern groovy bands like Devildriver, Sylosis or Lamb Of God.
