5.0 étoiles sur 5 Sexy, emotional, swoony, and sweet. Davis Milo is hot! 18 août 2013
Par K. Bias - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
If you have read any of Lauren Blakely's other books, you are already familiar with Jill. She is the room mate of Kat in Caught Up in Us, friend to Reeve in Pretending He's Mine, and sister of Chris from Trophy Husband. So it was time for Jill to get her own story.

(Quote)Because love like that only happens when it's make believe. At least, I've always thought so. Then I met Davis Milo and everything in my life changed. Irrevocably.

Jill just landed her "almost" dream job. She made understudy and chorus for a new Broadway musical, with her longtime actor crush Patrick as the lead, and a one of the hottest directors in New York, Davis Milo. Davis is not only at the top of his career, he is also freakin' crazy hot (like melt your panties hot. Charming, and irresistible aren't even close to describing his dominating personality (and not to mention the amazing book cover with Steve Boyd totally captures his essence). But Jill isn't too keen on the intense chemistry between them and sees Davis as completely off limits. She is all about seeking what's safe and familiar. In Jill's mind it's all about Patrick...she has wanted him for years and this gig is her perfect opportunity to get even closer to him. And since Patrick has been thrust back into her life, there should be no contest to who wins her heart...the guy who has held her heart for years (even if he does not know it) vs. the one who scares the living day lights out of her.

(Quote)But acting is really all I've ever done. Acting like I'm fine. Acting like what happened back then...wasn't all my fault. I suppose now, six years later, I'm mostly fine. People who know me say I'm carefree, laid back, happy go lucky. Sometimes I truly am. Other times, I've become so damn good at the appearance of moving on that I even believe the illusion. Fake it until you make it, right?

Davis has been also heartbroken in his past, and he now has rules. First and foremost, he does not date actresses. But Jill knocks him on his ass in more ways than one. He is immediately drawn to her even though deep down he knows he should resist her at all costs. I loved seeing this strong alpha male who makes no excuses for who is develop cracks in his armor. It allowed me to delve into the many layers that made up Davis Milo, giving me a better understanding of what he felt he really wanted and needed. I had a blast watching such a domineering man lose complete and total control.

(Quote)Davis Milo is the strangest mix of sophisticated class and unbridled intensity I've ever seen. It's as if a Merchant Ivory movie f***ed a Quentin Tarantino flick and made him.

(Quote)I tell myself to turn it off for her. It should be business...Besides, I didn't cast her because she's f***able. I cast her because she's f***ing amazing.

There are to many reasons Jill and Davis are wrong for each other, yet nature takes it course. Their chemistry is off the charts and seems to have a mind of it's own. It's like an unstoppable force with a magnetic pull that links them together and puts them in situations they are not prepared for. The best part about it, no matter where they are... lust happens (it's often fast and intense, plus you get the added benefit of it happening in some interesting places). The jealousy these two feel when it comes to each other is a strong emotion that just adds more fuel to the fire. Life imitates art as their interactions and those of the characters in the play become intermingled and gain intensity.

Seriously if anyone is in need of some hot orgasms, it is Jill. She has been through so much and has turned herself off emotionally and physically. She is damaged and fearful of being hurt or causing others pain. Davis on the other hand is completely alpha, sexy, commanding, intense, and possessive. He just oozes power, sexuality and charisma. In addition, he is also vulnerable and incredibly perceptive when it comes to Jill. Davis is the one man who can see the real Jill enough to break down her barriers. Their interactions are so passionate, impulsive, and full of need. And as the walls slowly come down and insecurities and pasts are revealed, it becomes all too real and scary.

(Quote)Something about the way he looks at me makes me want to tell him things, to open up, to share all sorts of secrets I've never told anyone else. His dark blue eyes are so pure and unflinching that they seem to demand nothing less than total honesty.

"Because we will hurt each other, and we will fight, and we will argue. And sometimes it'll be less than perfect. But it'll be real. Every second of it will be completely real."

What I really love about Lauren Blakely's books is her sense of humor and fun. This book does have that, but it also delves much deeper and adds more layers. Both of these characters have been broken, have past demons, and are hiding pieces of themselves. They have fears, insecurities, jealousies, and mixed feelings. Their connection is intense, but confusing. They both try to resist but cannot seem to. Lauren Blakely did a wonderful job making the reader feel their passion, their need, and their conflicting emotions. At times it was funny, flirty, and sweet. And at other times heartbreaking and emotional. And still there were times it was hot, steamy, and completely out of control. And she does not give us all of the information about these characters up front, she slowly lets it come out throughout the story adding some mystery as well.

But these characters were so well developed, so real, and so likable that I was totally invested in their relationship. I am so glad she gave us both Jill and Davis' points of view. Davis was such a perceptive guy and I loved seeing how his mind worked and when things clicked for him. Even though I loved his possessive, domineering alpha side, I think I preferred his softer, vulnerable one. His need and desire was palpable and you could literally feel the profound way Jill affected him. I thought it was funny that Jill was a romance novel junkie who liked the dirty talking alphas. But she also mirrored the broken heroine you see in many novels.

I consider Lauren Blakely a comical genius. Her characters are funny, sassy, and have no filters. She can have you shocked and laughing one minute, but then turn around and make you want to throw your kindle or grab for the tissues the next. I love this series because each book is unique and complete, but also has common threads or characters. They can be read as stand alones, but part of the fun are the connections. It was great to catch up with some of the favorite characters from the rest of the series: Kat and Bryan, Reeve and Sutton, and Chris and McKenna. Jill is really the connecting factor to all of these people and it was definitely time for her story to be told. And as much as I enjoyed the other books, this one is by far my favorite. It had everything: humor, passion, romance, heartbreak, emotion, love and redemption. It was written flawlessly, flowed effortlessly, and kept me completely engaged until the very end. And Davis Milo is my new book boyfriend. He is so scorchingly hot and perfectly delectable that he made me tingle and swoon...sigh...No wonder Jill did not know what hit her!

I cannot wait for The Breakup Album coming in October. She teased us a bit with the rocker Jane Black in this book and I look forward to her story.

Thanks to Lauren Blakely for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

For me, the best part of this story was the way that Davis seduced Jill with his words. No, I don't mean he whispered sweet nothings into her ear. His words were raw and sexual. The chemistry between Davis and Jill was undeniable and I loved the way that I, as a reader, was drawn into the sexual tension between them. My only complaint I have is that I wanted more build up and more encounters. I wasn't ready for it to end.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Holy Hotness! 2 septembre 2013
Par Kat - Publié sur Amazon.com
This is the fourth Lauren Blakely book that I've read, and let me tell you ladies, it blows all the ones before it right off the bookshelves!

Let me start off with Jill. I loved her! She's got such a great heart to share, only she is afraid to do it. The part of her heart she has given to love in the past, has let her down, and she is afraid to trust it again. I may have too, if given her situation, it was a tragic event that would change anyone's life. Jill believes that there is only one man whom she can give her heart to for her future happiness. But sometimes what you have planned for the future doesn't always happen, especially when someone like Davis Milo comes into your life.

Davis is a hot shot director with a past broken love life of his own. He has an ideal woman, and Jill does not fit that mold. He tries to stay away, but when lust calls, there is nothing he can do to stop it. He is reckless with his actions, yet cautious with his feelings because he doesn't want to be used like he was in the past.

They are insanely attracted to each other, and the chemistry they have is undeniable. Once they have gotten over their fears of past love disasters, they embrace the true love that has found them.

Now this is where I must address the fact that Davis is a pro dirty talker. So if that's the kind of stuff you're into, and if you're not I think you may have some serious issues, you will love Davis! I was actually silently cheering Lauren on when I was reading "Go Lauren, Go Lauren", because I was so happy and surprised. Davis is way dirtier than all her other leading men and I just couldn't get enough of him! She did such a great job with him! He will definitely make you sweat and squirm, Jill is one lucky lady!

I was kind of hoping for a little more angst in the story, I so enjoy being tortured by that. Also, I wanted (and this is just me being a needy reader) a little more of the HEA stuff at the end, but hey, what can I do about it? Oh...maybe email Lauren and ask for more? Nah, I'll survive! I really enjoyed this book, and as always, cannot wait to read more of what Lauren has lined up next!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 cheesy, cliché and sexy 25 août 2013

This book turned out a lot better than I thought it was going to be. When I first started, I was a little worried. The first few pages seemed a little bit like a middle schooler trying to write a romance novel, but a few more pages in and the author started to pull things together and the writing evened out more. While the writing was a little cheesy, cliché, and most definitely predicable, I found myself getting into it and even enjoying it.

Jill McCormick is a young actress who just landed a part as an understudy and chorus member for a new Broadway musical. The male lead in the musical is Patrick, her long time crush whom she has wanted for years. She feels he is everything she needs and most importantly, he is safe. Jill has this dark secret that she holds onto that keeps her from having relationships and she hasn't been laid in over 6 years. I know 6 years without sex. I would just spontaneously have orgasms when I saw a hot guy if I was her.

The problem is while she might be crushing on Patrick it seems her body is drawn to the director and alpha male, Davis Milo. I know ..I know ..you're thinking... "Just freaking great. Here comes the dreaded love triangle," but to be honest, it wasn't too bad at all and the triangle didn't really last that long.

Davis also has a few dark secrets of his own. He has suffered some serious losses in his life that leave him a little guarded. I think this is the biggest down fall for the book. The author didn't get me too connect to the dark parts of the characters' lives. Normally when some of these secrets would have come out I would have felt some heart break, but to be honest I was just kind like "yeah ok... whatever" and these were big things. I just didn't connect with them on these tragedies for some reason.

Between some of the secrets and jealousy comes the push and pull of Davis and Jill falling in love. This was without a doubt my favorite part and what kept my attention. It was cheesy and sexy and it worked for me in that aspect. It also helps that the sex was hot and the dirty talk got me worked up pretty freaking good.

I see potential in the author... maybe with a good editor or with time she'll learn how to pull more emotion from me as I read. If only she had landed those emotional connections with the characters pasts, the book would have easily landed on my re-read shelf, but she definitely has landed on my "checking out the next book she releases when I'm looking for a gooey gushy hot read" list. .

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Dear Lord- Davis Milo... 25 août 2013
Par Jessica Leigh (Lovin' Los Libros) - Publié sur Amazon.com
Sigh. Lauren has done it again! She has created a cast of incredibly sexy characters that have such strong sexual tension and chemistry it makes you want to scream! But this time- our male lead isn't just a regular male: he is 100% ALPHA! Excuse me, while I let my raging hormones chill out for a minute before launching into this review.... I won't even lie. I'm addicted to Lauren's books. They are smart, sexy, fun, and oh so delicious. I really loved the level of depth Lauren added to this novel. It really made you root even harder for Jill and Davis to get the happy ending they both deserved.

Jill is such a sweet character. I really loved reading about her. She is a budding actress who is trying to score her first part on Broadway. I personally really connected to Jill because I myself wanted to be an actress on Broadway. I lived for the theater so I could really feel how passionate she was about it, the thrill of being on stage, of being someone completely different. Acting was also a release, an outlet for Jill. It was there for her when she felt no one else could be and it was able to help ease the pain and guilt she felt for something that happened from when she was a teenager. I hate that she is still punishing herself over something she really had no control over and that she still let the pain of her past control her.

She saw Patrick Carlson for the first time while he was doing Guys and Dolls and after meeting him briefly and exchanging kind words with him- he really became a hero in her 17 year old eyes. When Jill earns her first role in Crash the Moon, a musical directed by the great Davis Milo, only to find out Patrick has also been cast she is ecstatic. Jill is sweet and almost a bit naïve. She believes she is in love with Patrick- and hopes to make him see the woman she is. However, Jill never counted on Davis Milo becoming such a big part of her life....

Oh, Davis. What can I say?! He made me swoon so many times! He is a powerhouse director who knows what he wants. And he wants Jill to be his lead. However, bureaucracy wins out and he is forced to cast her as part of his chorus, but not without casting her as the famous Alexis Carbone's understudy first. I like that Davis is powerful- he does not back down from a challenge, yet after having his heart broken by an actress in the past- he has sworn off dating and getting involved with them. As attracted as he is to Jill, he knows he can't go down that road again. However, he can't help but be attracted to her- she's sweet, sexy, funny, and he genuinely enjoys being in her company.

Their relationship is a tricky one. Both go back and forth trying to deny their feelings for one another, but holy gods above- they have such passion when they're together. Jill is still caught up with her 17 year old self believing she is in love with Patrick, when really it's just a fantasy of a 17 year old girl who needed something to cling to in order to keep from drowning. What she experiences with Davis is on a completely different level- he makes her feel things she only ever read about her in books and really makes her come alive with the intensity of his words and actions.

Watching them both discover how much they need each other is beautiful, sexy, and endearing all at the same time. Jill has to let the pain of her past fall away and allow herself forgiveness before she can truly move on and give her heart to Davis. Davis is determined to remain by her side and support her- he really does become the pillar of strength that she needs to lean on in order to pull herself through.

If you're in the mood for a sexy, sweet, oh-so-steamy read- Lauren is your go-to girl. Every. time.
