this version really is terrible 6 mars 2014
Par Damian Chappell - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
i previously had the older version of this book (the condensed tokyo guide) which was tall and skinny. it was perfect to fit in the back pocket of your jeans and I found it really really handy navigating and identifying the places to cram into any stop into tokyo. as a tourist you use the metro and subway a lot, and the previous version was excellent at helping you find your way onto the right train and off at the right station. i picked up this this version of the book and was shocked at how terrible it is. starting off with the fact that it is a really "wrong" size. it's just wrong to hold in your hand and you will never fit this into your "pocket" easily. also the maps are really really terrible. in the previous version you had fantastic big maps that all link together so you can easily find your way around on the subways and railways - wih each referring to a master map so that you could identify that you had to get to here, via here and you'll pass by there. in this version you have a detail map for the centre of Tokyo and (to my shock) the other regions are covered by zoomed in suburb views that you have no idea how they link together - and most don't even have the train line names printed on them. as a tourist in tokyo this is just a terrible idea. as a frequent visitor to tokyo i'm shocked at how bad "the bible" for tokyo tourists has become compared to previous versions. i'm going to search the internet now and try to find the last edition of the old version (i let a friend borrow my previous copy and they have yet to return it).

Great book! Good Size! 6 novembre 2014
Par Anna Mae - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Having a few days in Tokyo, this book really helped me target and prioritize the major sights efficiently around neighborhoods. Can't say enough good things about it. Used a similar Lonely Planet pocket guide for Beijing and found it to be a big help. It doesn't have small or obscure landmarks, but it definitely will take you to the highlights of a city. The folded map in the back was not a big help. But I felt like the size of the book was the best advantage. Fits well in a small purse, and saves you from lugging a huge book from place to place. Ended up leaving our larger Tokyo book in the hotel!

I bought this guide a couple months before my trip. Having never been to Tokyo before I wanted something that I could keep on me while traveling around the city. I did many of the things that it recommended and I had a fantastic trip! I was also very impressed with the food and restaurant recommendations that it made. So many delicious things to eat! I highly recommend this guide.

This was the best of several guides I bought for Tokyo. Not only was it easy to use, but all its recommendations were spot on food wise. Highly recommend!
