HASH(0xa07b50c0) étoiles sur 5 A must-have for EVERY massage therapist 27 décembre 2011

Format: Broché
In my dream of dreams, every massage therapist would read this book, because let's face it, even though not all specialize in maternity massage, all of us work with pregnant women at some point. Finally an author tells us the WHY behind the dos and don'ts she espouses. It's frustrating to be told NOT to do something without being offered an explanation which we can use to justify our practices to ourselves and to our clients. Osborne, in her POV sections, not only shows respect for the thinking therapist, but very gracefully wades through the thorniest and most divisive of issues, like prone vs. side-lying positioning, by offering the rationales behind differing perspectives for readers to review and make their own decisions. She also updates outdated information found in materials as recent as 2008. At first I was disappointed when I saw there was no DVD included, but after exploring the bank of on-line demonstration videos and other support materials, I realized this was much better! I still believe there is no substitute for hands-on learning, but these on-line videos allow students who do take the full certification course to review and practice the steps very easily. As a teacher of maternity massage, I am grateful for a resource which allows me to bring Osborne's expertise and authority into the classroom. She also cites many more research studies than in the first edition, though sadly, there still seems to be a lack of research available in area of labor massage. Overall, Osborne's commitment to safe and effective massage therapy for pre- and perinatal women comes through in a professional, yet passionate way, which will likely spur more needed research and motivate therapists to improve what's offered to birthing women in their own communities.

My words cannot adaquately describe the gratitude I feel to Carole for writing this book. As someone who is passionate about prenatal massage, I think I have read every pregnancy massage book on the market (in addition to taking several prenatal massage courses). This edition of her "Pre and Perinatal Massage Therapy" book goes FAR, FAR beyond any other book I have read! Osborne is detailed and thorough in the important background education a therapist needs in order to understand the pregnancy journey for normal and special needs moms. Additionally, I was amazed to find most of the massage techniques she teaches in her hands-on classes described in stroke-by-stroke detail.

I am a therapist who has an ethical problem with non pregnancy certified therapists offering pregnancy massage for many reasons I will not go into here. However, after reading this book, I now believe a non-certified therapist who follows all the instructions in this amazing book, (and lots of practice), could safely and successfully provide mom and her precious baby a great massage.

This book is a MUST for both the novice and well-seasoned prenatal massage therapist...

When I learned about this book, I was a little hesitant to purchase it - only because I had already read her first edition from front to back and thought that would suffice. Well, a couple months later, I had some questions and actually contacted the author who responded quickly and told me about the additional information in the 2nd edition. I went ahead and ordered it and let me tell you - I was so happy when I received this book! I have not read all the way through, but it is VERY well organized, the pictures and diagrams have improved from the first edition. The online resources and eBook make it easier to find what you are looking for. It's the best book to have for all your prenatal AND labor massage needs! I am also in the process of becoming a certified birth doula and this is a WONDERFUL addition to that process. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I do!

Not only is this text a wonderful resource for the therapist - packed with insight, information and techniques, but it is also a terrific gift to mommas and babies. The gift of competent, confident and nurturing touch during pregnancy, labor and postpartum can have such an impact on a family's life and this book gives practitioners what they need to deliver that type of care.

Carole has continually enhanced the field of massage therapy, with her teaching and her writing, over the last several decades. She has now done it again. This revised version of her already fantastic guide to all things pre- and peri- and postnatal is even more remarkable than the original. Read it and be a better practitioner.
