Revue de presse

Great for Dads! This little book is aimed more at Dads, its set up like a Haynes car manual, its a fun way of looking at pregnancy starting from early pregnancy through to when the baby arrives, its informative and light hearted. I gave it to my husband to read and he laughed at lots of comments his favourite being about snoring, he enjoyed the book more so than I did. All in all a great little book, worth a read...... This is quick and easy to read and a good size which can fit in your handbag. I got this when I was 7 months pregnant so it would have been better to have earlier in pregnancy. It is American and so I thought some of it not relevant for expectant mothers in UK. I liked the simple, quirky pictures and lists such as what to pack in hospital bag. This would probably be a good book for fathers-to-be to read. Overall a good, light hearted read which gives the basics and ideal for first --The baby website, March, 2010

Funny written. Excellent present for first time parents. Short overview of pregnancy stages and baby development. Nice for quick reference on baby growth milestones.

I bought this as a gift for a relative of mine, she loved it. It's written differently than most pregnancy books, but still offers the same great imformation. She said she read it quicker and was more interested in it than other books. I'd definatly buy it again or recommend it.

I was looking for a book that didn't give me a panic attack and information overload. This book was perfect for me! I love the illlustrations too! I get lightheaded when I see more than I want to, or get queasy when there is WAY to much information. This is well put, enough information about pregnancy... I also bought the Baby version as well. Great job!

Both my wife and I have really enjoyed reading this (we are expecting our first baby in July) and despite the wealth of information available from every other mother we know, it still offers additional information and insight that we have found to be very helpful. The illustrations are cute and funny, and the text itself is very well written and easy to understand. A very amusing but very useful reference!

The book is meant more for an overall census of the pregnancy process and should not be used as the end all be all. Great book for soon to be dads who want to know what happening with the development of the baby. The book generically covers serious topics, but not in a manner which causes stress or alarm. There are parts that will make some laugh, but I urge caution not to laugh too much when reading the contents to the pregnant woman.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Promising premise, flawed execution 11 octobre 2014

I found this book really disappointing. I read it after reading "The Baby Owner's Manual", which was lots of fun for geeks like me and my partner. This book, however, was not up to standards. For one thing, it first of all assumes that there's a mother and a father in the equation, which is not so great for including single mothers or queer couples. It also seems to assume that men are absolutely clueless idiots when it comes to helping their wives cope during pregnancy. (Dudes, if my partner wasn't sensitive to my needs and my emotions, I wouldn't have married him). It also "jokingly" seems to assume that all men are paleolithic dude-bros who will refuse to carry the diaper bag if it's "cute" or "girly", and who crave "total clicker control" so that they can watch "action flicks". (Am I suddenly not allowed to like The Avengers now that I'm pregnant?)

I was looking for a scientifically-minded, practical, somewhat geeky primer on what to expect during a pregnancy. Instead, I found something that assumed I was an irrational, hormonal shriek-hag, and that my partner was a clueless moron. I found this book condescending and trite, with lines like "pregnancy is no excuse for bad hair". As other reviewers have mentioned, a lot of the basic information is also freely available online.

Also, this book is the only book I've found so far that's said that an occasional glass of wine (once a week) is okay during pregnancy (after the first trimester), on page 36. Every other text I've found so far has said that *no* alcohol should be consumed during pregnancy.

All told, I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. It has some good information, and the illustrations are cute. However, the condescending tone and implicit gender divide really put me off. This book just isn't meant for snarky, geeky, pregnant folks like me, I suppose.
