Présentation de l'éditeur

I have presented to, worked with, and trained hundreds of project managers across the world and I always advocate putting the right level of fun into the project work. I have personally seen how it can improve project morale and help keep moving forwards in a positive manner even in challenging times.

Now whilst there are, quite rightly, lots of books about the serious side of the profession there are none that address the more enjoyable aspects, and so I give you The Project Manager Who Smiled.

A superb resource of inspiration and entertainment; you’ll find this book invaluable in creating successful projects since:

• A good laugh not only reduces tension and relieves stress, but also helps to increase team bonding and boost morale;
• When you’re happy, you are more productive, more creative, more open, more likeable and a better leader.

It is packed full with ideas and jokes, inspirational thoughts and quotes, suggestions and maxims, anecdotes and all manner of good material that I just know you will steal and use in your own projects – and that is exactly what I want you to do.

Wrike, a leading provider of project management software, supported the release of this book by Peter Taylor that focuses on the practical value of humor in the day-to-day work of project managers and their teams.
Wrike and the author are united by a common idea of making the daily work of project teams stress-free, which became the backbone of this partnership.

“In our recent survey on working habits, good mood ranked as the 2nd strongest productivity catalyst. Over 57% of respondents said that it motivates them a lot. If we want to work on our projects in an efficient and stress-free way, jokes and humor might be a tool no less powerful than accurate plans, helpful software and many other things,” said Andrew Filev, Wrike's CEO, in his foreword to the book. “At Wrike, we are winning at a very competitive space. That takes a lot of hard work, and one of our productivity secrets is that humor is a big part of our culture.”

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Don't take yourself seriously...just the project. 3 août 2013

A great reminder about the importance of having fun on projects. It is the tie that binds your team together when times get tough, and let you get through them. Peter blends humorous stories from all over the world into this easy-to-read volume, and the stories have helped me adjust my perspective on some current projects.

Well done.

Gary Nelson, author of Gazza's Guide to Practical Project Management: Tips and advice on Surviving the Project Management Journey, and The Ultimate Tree House Project: Project Kids Adventure #1 (Project Kids Adventures).

Project management is far from being a cakewalk - from time to time, we all face stress, conflicts and other challenges. To get through any intense situation without losses, it's essential to save place for a little bit of humor in your day-to-day work.

The humor in this book varies from the amusing jokes that will make you smile, to inspiring and practical real-life stories from project managers all around the world. For instance, what perks would you ask a magic Genie for? No spoilers, you'll have to see for yourself. I'll just say that in these stories a project manager is always a die-hard.

In our company, we truly believe that one of the attributes of successful project management is being as stress-free as possible. After all, if you are in your comfort zone at work, you are able to get more things done with less fuss. And humor is a powerful weapon here. As for the book's insights, I guess every project manager should get this particular quote printed out "The most valuable and least used phrase in project manager's vocabulary is `I don't know'" :)

To wrap it up: Great job by the author! I'd recommend this book to wide audience - general managers, project management pros, occasional PM's and their project teams, too.

A quick and easy read, but with valuable content. If you're a project manager, you'll recognize some of the situational humor.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A really important (and fun) book 13 août 2013

Admittedly I am part in this since I have one published contribution :), but the reason I contributed is because I think having fun is too important to disregard or forget.

Having fun could literally be the tipping point between failure and success in a project (or any operation for that matter). Having the perfect project plan, the "Ultra Perfect Methodology (TM)", toll gates and formal follow up often helps little if trust and commitment is missing. A climate where people have fun builds exactly this and makes people bend, stretch and become flexible when only following the "Less than Perfect Methodology".

Peter's book is a very good collection of real life situations where humor made projects tick or took them past obstacles. I got a lot of inspiration and some aha moments reading it. Also, the book is excellent bedside reading and anything but boring.
