Présentation de l'éditeur

The Prequel to the Hometown Heroes series!

Ashton Kirk, youngest daughter of a prestigious senator, fiancee of a hotshot attorney, and fresh Harvard graduate, is headed for a promising law career when scandal breaks apart her family. To escape, she rents an apartment in the sleepy town of Paradise, New Hampshire, where no one knows who she is.

Ashton hopes for solitude, but all bets are off when Eddie West, the town’s most eligible bachelor, moves in downstairs. Eddie likes his women and his cars shiny, sleek, and fast, and when he meets his new housemate, he wastes no time getting friendly. While he's looking for a no-strings romance, though, he gets more than he bargained for in Ash, who sees through his bravado to the pain of a loss too fresh to mention.

Can two people from different worlds find common ground, a place to fall in love and build a future? Is it possible to find your soul mate in the place you least expect?

2.0 étoiles sur 5 I didn't like it 15 avril 2014

I got this as a freebie via one of the sites I follow. I'm a little conflicted about NA romance, I enjoy it if it's well written but sometimes the drama gets to me. I didn't find the reviews of this particularly helpful so I'm going to be a bit more detailed with mine. As the summary tells us, the h moves to a small town to get away from all the drama happening in her own life. She makes up a fictitious name and begins working in a small restaurant/bar. She sublets an apartment for the Summer as she intends going back to Boston after Summer. She meets the H, who is renting the apartment below hers. The H is supposed to be a bit of a tortured soul, who lost his younger brother in a car accident a few years before. The H is a womaniser and never has a serious relationship. The h had been dumped by her serious boyfriend of 3 years and she is recovering from a broken heart. All of this sounds like a good premise for the book.

+++Spoilers+++
What I'm not a fan of, and never will be, is a womanising H who continues to have one night stands long after he's met the h. The other thing I loathe is when the h is blamed/takes blame more than the womanising H. Here the h keeps her identity a secret for good reasons and is about to tell the H but after a night together, her secret is exposed before she has time to confess. The H takes off and hooks up with an ex. Granted they don't have sex but only because he gets so drunk and doesn't remember. He was happy to go off with, share a motel room with her etc. His thoughts are that there are 1000's of women out there. He's angry because the h lied to him. When he returns home to speak to her, he sees the h with another man and we read 'She was with another guy. After 24 hours?', so he takes off AGAIN without speaking to her. Double standards as usual. The h is the one who grovels, who visits him after the accident he has. He, of course, refuses to see her when she comes to the hospital, because he hears that she's there with someone else. It just all is so 'high school' for me and I didn't like the H. I felt more sympathy for the h's ex, (and I hate guys who hook up with someone else after they've just broken up with a serious girlfriend), who realises he's made a huge mistake and he comes to find the h and make things right.

I know not everyone shares my views and so if they don't they may enjoy this book. The author mentions that this was her first book and I might try another one to see how she's progressed. I did like the sound of a secondary character, Lucas, and I might read his book.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great new adult book 31 mars 2013
Par Readers Confession - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
This was another great NA (New Adult) read. Ash and Eddie are both at a cross roads in their lives, although both coming from completely different backgrounds.

Ash had everything a girl could wish for growing up, a great family, wealth, great education and the perfect boyfriend. Then it all started crumbling and she had to start re-evaluating what SHE really wants in life as apposed to what her family wants for her. Ash ventures into a small town named, Paradise where she realizes maybe big city living isn't for her.

Eddie is a small town boy, total ladies man, killer dimples and smile, car mechanic but with haunting nightmares. Eddie went through some rough times in the past few years and he's just living life day by day. When he moves into his new place (finally away from his parents) he meets Ash, his new neighbor and housemate.

Sparks fly very quickly between Ash and Eddie. I loved the fact that it wasn't insta-love. Readers were able to see Ash and Eddie just enjoy each others company, hang out and be friends first. Yes there was definite chemistry there. Eventually they needed to REALLY open up to each other and let the secrets go and of course that's what it hits the fan. Families get involved, old flames start lingering around and bring doubts to Ash and Eddie's hearts. The ending was perfect and I hope to see more from this couple but I am definitely satisfied with their HEA.

Overall I very much enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more from Allie Bonafice. :-)

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Emotional Journey of Two Complete Opposites That Fit Perfectly Together 4 avril 2013
Par J. Faltys - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
Ashton Kirk has always been the dutiful daughter living her life as her parent's desire until the day a family scandal drives her into hiding in a most unlikely place. She's always hobnobbed with the elite and never had to work up much of a sweat when it came to work, but her recent move to small town Paradise has completely transformed her. Just when she thought she was running away from her problems, a whole new problem arises in the form of her new sexy neighbor Eddie West who has a lot of emotional baggage he tries to keep hidden too. Once they meet a bumpy journey to a satisfying HEA ensues.

Ashton is a likable character who's surprisingly sweet, and non-judgemental, considering her pedigree. She's not afraid of hard work and quickly immerses herself in the family-like feel of the community. She became a stronger person as she created a life for herself and I applauded her for coming out of her high society bubble. The only times she disappointed me was in her holding back until near the end of the story to admit the truth about herself even as Eddie is begging her for the truth. I also disliked her wishy-washyness regarding her ex. He only wants her for her pedigree, but Ashton is drawn to the certainty and comfort in the expected that he represents. In a predictable turn of events, it takes a near death experience for her to realize who and what she really wants that finally allows for a sweet and hard-won HEA.

Eddie West is by far the highlight of this story! Sexy with a hint of bad boy courtesy of his tats and popularity with the ladies I found myself drawn to him and his charming and suave demeanor. After an accident that takes the life of someone close to him he's left with scars inside and out that has left him with nightmares and survivor guilt. He's drawn to Ashton the moment he sees her but knows she has secrets that he's willing to wait to hear. With her he can be himself and sees a bright future when she smiles at him. He opens his heart to her way before she acts on her feelings, he tells her the gutwrenching truth early on and it made him even more endearing. He's clearly the better man and it's frustrating that he's kept in limbo so long.

This is a well-written story with a slowly evolving romance between two characters from very different worlds. The interactions between Ashton and Eddie crackle with sexual tension as their relationship evolves in a sweetly believable way. There are very few sexual interludes as it's the emotional journey that's being focused on. The colorful denizens of Paradise as well as the safety and support of small town living was vividly depicted and helped immerse me even further in the story. Ms. Boniface has written an immensely satisfying story with a drool worthy hero that's still on my mind and I look forward to the next book in this series.

Two people from very different worlds become unlikely housemates in the picturesque little town of Paradise, New Hampshire. Each has a story and is escaping from their difficult pasts ... can they find themselves and each other in Paradise?

Ashton Kirk is a recent Harvard Law graduate and daughter of a prominent Boston Senator. When a scandal involving her father hits the news and her three year relationship with her boyfriend ends, Ashton is suddenly unsure of everything in her life. Assuming the alias Ashley Kirtland, Ashton escapes for the summer to the small town of Paradise, New Hampshire to get away from her parents and the scandal, forget her ex-boyfriend Colin, and figure out what she really wants to do with her life.

Eddie West is an auto mechanic who lives and breathes fixing anything with a motor. Born and raised in Paradise, he's a hunk who loves the ladies, but a tragic accident three years ago which cost his brother Cal's life continues to haunt Eddie. Moving out of his family's home, he seeks a life on his own and rents the bottom portion of a house on the other side of town.

Will Ashton/Ashley and Eddie find common ground in their shared house? Can their friendship grow to something more, or will the secrets from their pasts come back to haunt them and end their chance of a future?

The Promise of Paradise is an engaging and fast-paced romance story about a man and woman who are at a crossroads in their lives. Both are escaping difficult pasts, only to find each other at the most unexpected time in their lives. Set in the picturesque town of Paradise, New Hampshire, author Allie Boniface weaves a warmhearted tale of romance written in the third person narrative that has the reader following along as Ash and Eddie's story of self-discovery and love unfolds.

The author does a wonderful job of weaving both Ash and Eddie's stories, she draws the reader in with tidbits of their pasts, and gradually develops their relationship as these two very different people become housemates and friends. Both characters come alive and leap off the pages with witty dialogue and interactions, you can feel the electricity in the air as the sparks of attraction for each other simmers below the surface. The story flows seamlessly between Ash and Eddie's pasts with the present time. I was captivated by the emotional events in their past that led them to seek a new start to their lives. With drama, twists and turns, and quirky secondary characters, The Promise of Paradise is an enjoyable romance story that will leave you satisfied.
