From Library Journal
Prompted by a World Health Organization report on "dramatic increases in the prostitution of women and girls in virtually every country," the author (The Victimization and Exploitation of Women and Children, McFarland, 1994) examines prostitution here and around the world. Among the topics covered are definitions of female prostitution, types and theories of prostitution, juvenile prostitution, pornography, customers, male prostitutes, AIDS, the role of substance abuse, legal and decriminalization issues, and the worldwide response to prostitution. This is a very readable study, intelligently presented and well supported with an extensive bibliography. Several recent books have examined various facets of prostitution, especially historical views, but there are few comprehensive books on the current problem. A worthwhile purchase for all academic and larger public libraries.?Mary Jane Brustman, SUNY at Albany Libs.
