4.0 étoiles sur 5 An excellent book for a beginner 14 octobre 2013

Format:Broché|Achat vérifié
Overall I really liked the book. It was well written, explaining concepts very simply, that a beginner should be able to understand. By the very nature of this book (1 hour per chapter, over 24 hours), this book is not inclusive of all that is Python, but it covers the basics very well. I would honestly suggest this book as _the_ book to read for someone with no prior programming or Python experience. BUT, it does fall short in a few places, so this book should be supplemented with other resources after having read it to fill in the gaps. I realize that this book was not intended to be something like the Llama book (which is extremely verbose), it does not mention things that I often wonder if a beginner might get lost/confused on. Regardless, the basics are covered very well and I would recommend this without hesitation.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent Python book for beginners and seasoned programmers 5 juillet 2014

- Short, focused chapters with clear examples. Each chapter is re-enforced with real world exercises and gradually builds up knowledge.
- Covers the essential elements necessary for getting started with Python. But also covers constructs for building larger programs using classes and modules.
- Later chapters introduces other relevant information such as debugging, databases, SQL, JSON, PyGame, Git so you can build useful programs and work with modern development tools.
- Provides additional references to the Python ecosystem/community for readers who are interest in going further.

Although I have lots of background experience with Java/C/C++, this book is a joy to read and help me understand how to get started with Python. The pace and length of each chapter is perfect and helps me stay on track.

A excellent book for anyone who want to learn Python for school/work/personal projects!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good Book Except for One Glaring Error - Hour 17 Examples Didn't Work For Me 20 novembre 2013

I purchased this on Kindle and used it through the Cloud Reader. I wanted (badly) to give this book 5 stars. However, I could not get the code examples in Hour 17 to work at all. I even wrote the author - she did not respond to me on Google+. The rest of the book was great, aside from some small typos (which I actually thought might be due to it being a Kindle version and not a printed version of the book). It did what it said it would - I learned the basics of Python. My issue, though, is in the fact that someone could publish a book that contains an incomplete or invalid chapter - I would love to know what is missing in Hour 17, but I will have to try to figure it out on my own, or rely on someone who is not a beginner to assist me.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Good beginner book 6 avril 2014

If you had two weeks to learn the basics of Python, this is a good beginner book, taking about a couple of hours to work through a chapter and the examples. I used this book as a supplement to Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner. The two books somewhat complement each other. For someone that has knowledge in an OO language like Java or C#, it's a bit of a slow read.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great book, but loose ends hanging 29 octobre 2014
Par Science Geek - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle
Overall a great way to learn the basics and then some, just as the other reviewers have said. Clearly written, fairly comprehensive, and just enough detail so you don't feel like you are left hanging with inadequate treatment.

Except the online presence. The book's web site is not finished: it promises an erratum list, and other things, but is completely nonfunctional (it is at 24hourpython <dot> com). The official book web site at informit dot com has a link to code, but half the "code" consists of empty folders. This is pretty bad, as for instance chapter 19 has a database that it would be really useful to download.

If the publisher fixes the online presence, this book will easily be worth 5 stars. As is, they dropped the ball, seemed to have run out of enthusiasm for the project before it was truly finished.
