The #1 Bestseller, with over 1,000 five star reviews on Amazon!

From #1 Bestselling author Morgan Rice comes the debut of a dazzling new fantasy series. A QUEST OF HEROES (BOOK #1 IN THE SORCERER’S RING) revolves around the epic coming of age story of one special boy, a 14 year old from a small village on the outskirts of the Kingdom of the Ring. The youngest of four, the least favorite of his father, hated by his brothers, Thorgrin senses he is different from the others. He dreams of becoming a great warrior, of joining the King’s men and protecting the Ring from the hordes of creatures on the other side of the Canyon. When he comes of age and is forbidden by his father to try out for the King’s Legion, he refuses to take no for an answer: he journeys out on his own, determined to force his way into King’s Court and be taken seriously.

But King’s Court is rife with its own family dramas, power struggles, ambitions, jealousy, violence and betrayal. King MacGil must choose an heir from amongst his children, and the ancient Dynasty Sword, the source of all their power, still sits untouched, waiting for the chosen one to arrive. Thorgrin arrives as an outsider and battles to be accepted, and to join the King’s Legion.

Thorgrin comes to learn he has mysterious powers he does not understand, that he has a special gift, and a special destiny. Against all odds he falls in love with the king’s daughter, and as their forbidden relationship blossoms, he discovers he has powerful rivals. As he struggles to make sense of his powers, the king’s sorcerer takes him under his wing and tells him of a mother he never knew, in a land far away, beyond the Canyon, beyond even the land of the Dragons.

Before Thorgrin can venture out and become the warrior he yearns to be, he must complete his training. But this may be cut short, as he finds himself propelled into the center of royal plots and counterplots, ones that may threaten his love and bring him down—and the entire kingdom with him.

With its sophisticated world-building and characterization, A QUEST OF HEROES is an epic tale of friends and lovers, of rivals and suitors, of knights and dragons, of intrigues and political machinations, of coming of age, of broken hearts, of deception, ambition and betrayal. It is a tale of honor and courage, of fate and destiny, of sorcery. It is a fantasy that brings us into a world we will never forget, and which will appeal to all ages and genders. It is 82,000 words.

NOTE: In response to reader requests, the book has now been professionally edited and copyedited, and this file version has all the typographical and grammatical errors corrected.

All 17 books in the series are now also available, individually and in bundles! Also available is book #1 in Morgan Rice's new epic fantasy series, RISE OF THE DRAGONS, which has over 400 five star reviews and is a free download on Amazon!

The story- more fairy tale then fantasy- is set in a medieval environment. Thor is actually cinderella. His 2 elder brothers and his father are bullying him making him their slave. When he finally tries to escape his life to join the king's legion they wouldn't allow him to present himself. He flees home, slaughters a monster and encounters the king's druid who tells him that his destiny is by far greater then he believes. His persistence and kind but somehow naive character make him achieve his goal and become part of the king's legion and even a close friend to the royal family until he gets involved in intrigues and falls from grace. In total a very shallow and simple story. I even didn't remember the book, the plot or the characters after 2 months. I certainly won't read the remaining books of the sorcerer's ring.

This WILL get on your nerves, I don't even know why I finished it.
The story is good, but the style is detestable! Lots of repetitions that make you roll your eyes as in: AGAIN!?! It's probably the worst I've read since raiding the local library at home and not caring about what I read, so long as it was a big enough book. A shame, cause as I said, the story has real potential.

This is a splendid fantasy epic with all of the things that make fantasy stories grand- swords, sorcerers, magic and derring-do. The young hero, Thor, is more than the simple country bumpkin he first appears to be. Armed with only courage and the deep desire to join in his king's Legion, Thor runs away from home to find his destiny, never knowing how different from the rest of his family he really is.
I won't do a book report or give any spoilers but rest assured- if you like lots of action, and intricate story lines, magical creatures, and horrifying monsters, knights in armor and royal intrigue- this book is for you.

Positives- This book has wonderful pacing, really good descriptive passages, and outstanding character build-up. It has has some very nice twists and turns... who would YOU trust in a royal court, when almost everyone you meet is either out for blood or some sort of political gain? Well done, Ms Rice- I WILL buy the rest of this series because I truly care about what happens to young Thor.

Negatives- there are quite a few spelling errors and typos, which are all the more disturbing since the rest of the novel is so darned good. I don't know whether this book is self-pubbed or through a publisher, but the book really need a second set of eyes to spot these annoying nits, since they diminish the book's quality. (These are silly things like woulds, instead of woods--- or foul rather than fowl)

This highly accomplished author does herself, and her readers, a disservice by not dropping the book for a day, or so, while the novel undergoes a final polish.

The positives far outweigh the negatives however, and I applaud Rice's new addition to the fantasy field. Highly recommended!

1.0 étoiles sur 5 This book is what people who don't like the genre probably think all fantasy novels are like 23 juillet 2014
Par Keith Fraser - Publié sur Amazon.com
A thoroughly generic assembly of tired fantasy tropes played straight without a trace of irony or originality, including but not limited to:

-A good kingdom endangered by an evil empire on the other side of a physical and magical barrier.
-A prophesied Chosen One (complete with magic sword that needs to be lifted) whose identity is painfully obvious.
-The ignorant farmboy hero who desperately wants to be special and badass (and whose value is overlooked by his dull relatives).
-The "spunky" teenage princess rebelling against her authoritarian mother but loved by her understanding father.
-Love at first sight between the above two characters.
-The collection of super-helpful friends and unpleasant bullies in the organization the protagonist joins.
-The supposedly wise magician who speaks in cryptic utterances and natters on about destiny.

The appallingly cliched plot aside, the book is also poorly written. It makes far too much use of superlatives in describing things (e.g. characters being "the most beautiful person" or "the biggest man" the protagonist has ever seen), continually drops in redundant descriptions or information that could be shown rather than repeatedly told, and can't decide whether the characters are speaking Ye Olde Standarde Fantasye Englishe or Generic American Highschool-Speak. The plot happens at breakneck speed, our hero going in the space of seemingly a few days back and forth between anonymous peasant, mysterious magic-wielder, honorary-royal squire, feted hero of the day, unhappy military pariah, boyfriend to the heir to the throne, ignored Cassandra and prisoner. Finally, it doesn't seem to have a consistent target audience - the simplistic, seen-it-a-million-times plot and black-and-white characterization suggest perhaps a pre-teen audience (assuming the author has a low opinion of 10-12-year-olds' intelligence, reading ability and genre savvinesss). However, the book also has occasional vague flashes of Song of Ice and Fire-style "grittiness" which might be expected to deter paranoid parents from giving it to their precious impressionable offspring, like alcoholism, brothels and gay characters (evil ones, of course).

In short: a total mess, the kind of thing that gives the fantasy genre a bad reputation. Avoid except as something to point and laugh at (this book is available for free in e-book format, presumably to promote the numerous sequels).

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Value - WIP 15 janvier 2013

Hi all,

I read this book in a number of hours, it was definately too short but then I dont see that as a bad thing. I hated putting the book down as although this seems at the start to be a twist on an old tale it was still gripping. The background was light and the story seemed to rush through the markers giving mainly surface information. However this could be intentional to provide us with ebnough scope and background of this new faraway magical place so that when book 2 and further releases come out we can getting into some real depth as the foundation has already been laid. The author seemed to want to get us as quickly as possible to this level without taking us on a tediuos character building discovery probably in the expectation of filling us in later.

Overall I found the book entertaining and great value for the money at this reduced proce. Definately looking forward to the next book and seeing where we will be taken next.

Thanks Morgan,

Mr C

I bought the the 3 book bundle and read it straight through. Story line was great, loved the characters. Can't wait to see what happens next. The editing could be better, wrong words used in the wrong places, like (would - instead of wood, creak - instead of creek). But overall a good read. If you like fantasy you will love these books.
