Présentation de l'éditeur

Can Islam withstand critical scrutiny?

Many questions are currently being asked about the place of Islam in the modern world. Among these questions the most important one of all sometimes gets lost: Is Islam true

With his new book author Peter Townsend invites you to accompany him on a journey through the foundational texts of the Muslim religion. In the process the truth-claims of Islam will be respectfully, honestly and impartially evaluated. Along the way the following questions will be asked:
  • Can the traditional Islamic historical accounts be trusted?
  • Is the Qur'an a 'Perfect Book, Perfectly Preserved'?
  • Was Muhammad indeed a 'Beautiful Pattern of Conduct'?
The answers to these questions will not be sought from modern commentaries on Islam. Instead Questioning Islam goes straight to the classic sources of Islam namely the Qur'an, hadiths (traditions) and biographies of Muhammad.

Questioning Islam is not an attempt to promote any other belief system or ideology. Its focus is simply on asking the hard questions about Islam that are all too often ignored or swept under the carpet.

Simply put, if you have ever wondered whether the truth-claims of Islam can withstand critical scrutiny then this book is for you!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 "An unexamined life is not worth living": Socrates 2 juillet 2014
Par Dave Clarke - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle
Socrates said “An unexamined life is not worth living”.

So it should be. Nothing should be accepted without critical thought, including religious beliefs; to accept anything at all without evidence is simply baseless superstition. Peter Townsend with Questioning Islam has subjected the Koran (Qur'an) and Islamic beliefs in general to critical examination and found many features that are internally contradictory, have been shown my modern science to be false, simply make no sense, or have been proven wrong by history and archaeology.

One can only hope that at least a few Muslims, or people who are considering converting to Islam, have sufficiently open minds to read Questioning Islam and give Peter's arguments some serious thought. I suspect that most Muslims will be too committed to their beliefs, and too frightened of questioning them, to read the book. It is fear of damnation in anyone who questions his or her faith that gives Islam (and Christianity for that matter) its hold over its adherents.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The questions that should be asked 30 juin 2014
Par Carl - Publié sur
Townsend's book is a pleasure to read, and can be read in a day or two. Footnotes are listed at the end, which allows for uncluttered reading. 'Questioning Islam' presents the religion in a sobering light, especially from point of view of a westerner, but instead of quoting from sources that are openly critical of Islam, the book draws directly from sources from Islam itself, the Qu'ran, the Hadiths, and biographical accounts of the so called Prophet Mohammed. Townsend provides commentary to this, but stays on topic and never launches into diatribe.
Questions are asked about the commonly held claims held in Islam, and the evidence objectively assessed. Some examples:
- Was Mecca a thriving city before the advent of Islam?
- How reliable are existing biographical sources on the life of Mohammed?
- Is the Qu'ran a perfect book without inconsistencies?
- How did the Hadiths come into being?
- Did Mohammed have any credentials as a prophet?
- Did Mohammed lead a virtuous life?
- How do Islamic texts deal with the issues of no compulsion in religion, slavery, the status of women, the age of consent, the use of violence, dealing with unbelievers, 'mischief makers', and People of the Book?
- Is it permissible in Islam to be deceitful to non-Muslims, in the name of advancing the good of Islam?
- How does shari'a compare with modern, Western systems of law?
'Questioning Islam' should be read by Muslims and non-Muslims alike. All it requires is a mind open to exploring and questioning the history and commonly held beliefs about Islam.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 An invaluable resource for addressing Islam's credibility and intentions 23 août 2014

In a day and age when "political correctness" trumps truth, as incredible as it may sound, Western Civilization is coming face to face with its demise. At the vanguard of this threat to life as we know it, is Islam. Sun Tsu wrote “Know your enemy and know yourself and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster.” Grievously, Western Civilization does not know its enemy.

Mr. Townsend simply allows trusted Muslim sources, primarily the Quran and Hadiths to speak for themselves. In a self-incriminating fashion, they reveal the contradictory nature of Islam, it's inconsistencies with science and reality, it's evil past and it's insidious intentions for the present and the future.

One argument that Muslim Apologists make is that the Quran is without variance and has never changed. Mr. Townsend reveals strong evidence that would speak to the contrary.

Questioning Islam does exactly what its title declares. It presents thoroughly substantive questions that would make a Muslim apologist hard pressed to find credible and adequate answers and explanations.

Questioning Islam is a veritable gold mine of information and it is a wake-up call to the West. Personally I would like to see a published book report of Mr. Townsend's opus submitted for public review by anyone who would aspire to be a United States Commander-in-Chief.

This book is well written and well researched. While it may not please devotees of Islam there's no denying the information in this book is from Islamic sources, therefore, if you have issue with this book you have issue with those sources. A good read and some eye opening facts.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A very intensive study of Islam 9 août 2014

A very intensive study of Islam, with lots of data to support his findings. However it had to be very long book to cover the subject. This because thier belief system is built around not only the Koran. But other teachings by other people who wrote at later times.

I think that people should spend an equal amout of time studying the Bible
