Now after remaining dormant for 12,000 years, the secret has been uncovered, and its true purpose suspected. What will be the greatest discovery in human history will either change us forever or destroy us for trying...

Secret of the Sands is an AWARD-WINNING mystery novel. It won the silver medal in the category of "Fiction-Mystery" in the Readers Favorite 2009 book contest. SECRET OF THE SANDS is an Indiana Jones type of adventure novel - suitable for ages 12 to 112! - where the reader is treated to two adventures-in-one as it weaves back and forth between a royal family with a potentially deadly secret in ancient Egypt and the adventures of a couple of modern-day archaeologists on a mission to uncover an amazing artifact that could change the world.

The adventure novel Secret of the Sands is a little bit "Indiana Jones" meets "The Mummy" meets "National Treasure", which also has shades of "The Chronicle of Narnia" and "The Golden Compass" in it.

Secret of the Sands is a highly unique cross-genre novel with a double-storyline. The genres it encompasses are mystery, suspense, adventure, and historical fiction, combined with an element of speculative sci-fi. The story revolves around Great Sphinx of Giza and alternate theories about its age and origins. The idea for the book came from a program on the Discovery Channel where archaeologists were proposing that the Sphinx might very well be thousands of years older than the history texts state. Rai & Tavius have been fascinated by ancient Egypt their entire lives, so this program immediately sparked their imaginations and creative fire. With this story they have woven a new (fictional) chapter to ancient Egyptian history with an explanation for the true origin and purpose of the mysterious and enigmatic Great Sphinx.

Alex and Mitch are the outcasts of the archaeological dig site they are working at in Egypt. Their supervisor/Professor, Dustimaine, is out to thwart their every attempt at success. If he misses anything, his underling, Fessel C. Blothers, is there to catch them.

One day, Alex and Mitch literally stumble upon a secret; a secret thousands and thousands of years old, unknown to anyone but them. With the help of their lab tech friends, Jack and Bob, Alex and Mitch soon get snared in uncovering a mysterious power somehow connected to the great Sphinx.

Could this be the biggest discovery in archaeological history -- or just someone's plan to hurt and destroy another society?

Rai Aren & Tavius E. write a spellbinding mix of mystery, history, fantasy, and adventure in this tale of two histories - one told in the present, the other told from the past - telling a story of misused power, learning how to trust, and the fate of civilization. The dialogue is believable and the plot is a page-turner.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This is a WOW of a book!! 28 mai 2008

There are a few books I picked up and could not let go - Secret of the Sands is one of them!
Rai Aren and Tavius E. have written a book that takes place in ancient ancient Egypt and present day Egypt near the Sphinx. A pair of young archaeology students, a young man and woman - Mitch and Alex are on a dig and suddenly discover a mysterious box, and with the help of two friends they open the box that is so old, it predates anything else known - the glyphs are in a different form, the metal not known in the current world.
The ancient era story details how this box and the information came to be and the backstory of the characters that will play through this amazing trilogy.
As I was reading Sands, I kept thinking of the pace is much like Raiders of the Lost Ark, because it is that good and that well paced.
The co-writing team of Rai Aren and Tavius E. have come up with movie material and what a movie it will make!
For those of us who are lovers of the ancient worlds, Egypt, present and past, archaeology, the metaphysical, and mystical happenings, this is a great choice for you.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Very amateur writing and needs a good edit 29 janvier 2011

I am mystified at the positive reviews received by this book. It's clear to me that it's been self-published and/or produced by a publisher that doesn't understand how to edit. But even once I can get beyond the grammatical and style problems presented by essentially unedited writing, most of the characters are two-dimensional or unbelievable, and the descriptions of Egypt 10,000 years in the past are sparse and not convincing. Expository writing is completely sacrificed to action and dialog. Battle scenes include things inappropriate for the context such as cannons, guns, and steel. There is almost no attempt to draw a picture of daily life, and when the authors do venture into that territory it seems silly and rings false. We are supposed to accept everything that doesn't make sense since it is out of context because we have been vaguely led to understand that these people are from an alien culture with advanced technology. Yet even that doesn't offer any satisfactory explanation for much of what happens, and by the end of the book, it's clear that you are going to have to wade your way through a sequel which may or may not provide more insight. I am under the impression that one of these authors can write better than the other one. If so, My advice to them as a team is to put that person in charge of writing the entire next book with just some creative input from the other. There are some good and even interesting ideas in this novel. But I would never recommend slogging through it just to occasionally find them because the execution is so poor. Don't waste your time or your money. I wish that I had not.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Blockbuster Movie on the way? 30 décembre 2010

Secret of the Sands is a very entertaining and exciting tale of ancient Egypt and modern archeology. The authors succeed in painting the ancient world and its characters in realistic and memorable fashion. Secret of the Sands is a story of adventure, wonder, betrayal, forgiveness, suspense, and action - all the elements that so often can be weaved together into a blockbuster movie. A hope this tale gets the opportunity to reach the big screen - i'll be amongst the first in line to see it! Fans of adventure tales like Indian Jones will love this book.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good ideas, needs more work and development 21 avril 2008

I would givet this a 2. 5 stars, but can't do halves, so three it is. "Secrets of the Sands" is a book that has many good aspects contained within it. The idea as to whether or not the Sphinx, etc. were connected to a possible alien visit/settlement from Orion is a concept that has been discussed over the years by many different groups. The shifting between the two time eras was a good idea as well. I found the main characters, of the present times, however, to be almost cartoonish, or better suited for video games. Maybe I am expecting more delineation of character through description and less through the 'Gee wizz' high school level dialogue that thoroughly littered the scenes set in the present. Surely the two main characters are a BIT more mature than how they were presented? Their side kicks in the lab were nothing more than mere cartoons in development, trying to 'out-silly' each other. The lead archeologist, as the 'bad guy' was really just too far fetched and simplified. Far more difficult to create a 'bad guy' person who has good points as well, which we all know make the character much more believable. The whole set up in the current times was just too unbelievable and simplified as to characters, I was turned off by them.
The concept of the Pharom, which when I read it brought immediately to mind the ancient wonder of the world set in Alexandria was a clever idea and a great lead in to a continuation of the series, which one hopes the following volumne will carry forward.

The setting and action of the ancient era was much better written, almost like two different people wrote the two sections, so did the two of you divide up the story and each do your 'part'? I found the Royal family characters more believable and better delineated in their strengths and weaknesses and relationships to those around them.
So overall: A lot of ideas, action and dialogue but not much development. You have some very good premises for creating some exciting stories, they just need more work. Hopefully, you will be able to get some needed guidance and help in these areas to take your action adventures to a wider reading audience.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Mesmerizing Story 1 septembre 2008

Have you ever wondered how old the Sphinx really is? Have you been intrigued by the mysteries swirling like the desert sands around this awesome ancient monument? Rai Aren and Tavius E. have written a mesmerizing story in which two young archaeologists discover an artifact that could provide all of the answers. But they are not the only ones who are interested in this relic, for it holds a power unlike anything seen on Earth before...
Secret of the Sands takes us back 12,000 years to the origins of the artifact and the people who created it. Their story is interwoven with the lives of the archaeologists studying it in the present. Both sets of characters are so well-drawn that I could swear I heard them breathing!
This novel is packed with adventure and suspense, and the style is fast-paced and filled with vivid description. When I got to the end I thought "oh no!" I wanted more, more, more! But I'll have to wait for Destiny of the Sands to get it. Rai and Tavius, please hurry up with that sequel!
