Got Caught Up In The Pictures 30 janvier 2013
Par Manhattan Book Lover - Publié sur Amazon.com

I know this is a cookbook, but I couldn't stop looking at the pictures. It was like leafing through a coffee table book with great photography. The recipes are great! I love all things Irish, from the food to the music to the people. I'm enjoying cooking the basics from this collection of real recipes. It has a lot of fun ones, and so many. I wonder if I'll ever make it through all 150 of them? Great for planning a feast for a St. Paddy's day party.

A feast for the eyes as well as the stomach! 1 avril 2013

Knowing I had friend coming for an extended visit who had visited Ireland and was actually getting ready to move over there, I bought this book to cook some real Irish food for them. I've always been interested in British cooking anyway, so I couldn't wait to dig into this cookbook. I nearly had to physically restrain her from stealing this book from me! Recipe after recipe was pointed out that they had enjoyed in Ireland, and the wonderful photos were nearly cried over. This book is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach! We made Champ (Cally), a lovely mashed potato dish for potluck at church the following Sunday, and it was a huge hit. We bought some Irish Bangers to enjoy, but I can't wait to try the homemade Irish Sausages on pg. 34. Cauliflower Cheese in on my menu for later this week as well as are Roasties and Cottage Pie.

This is a wonderful cookbook that is as much fun to read and browse leisurely through the photos as it is to cook from! An added bonus is having the measurements in the English system rather than metric. I don't mind converting from metric, but it's nice not to have to.

Happy Cooking!

Proud of My Irish Heritage 30 janvier 2013
Par NEWYORKREADER - Publié sur Amazon.com

The photography alone is worth the price of this book. Having been to Ireland, I can truly say that the photos capture the spirit and essence of the landscape and the people.

The food is like the food I was served in people's homes, not the kind of fare you get at American Irish heritage festivals. I'm not much of a cook, but the photos and the easy-to-follow recipes make me feel like I can actually make these homey dishes. I have other Irish cookbooks, but I think this one is going to become my long-term favorite.

I loved this cook book and the photography that showed of areas in Ireland that are sometimes rarely seen by the public. The stories and the recipes combined made it personal. I would recommend this book to anyone, it has all the old favorites and even a few I had never heard of, the recipes show Ireland at its best and the modern twist on some just look divine. Congrats David on such and amazing book!

Brings back memories. 9 janvier 2014

In the 1950's I lived in Ireland and did first year of High School there. The book is very authentic. Some of the recipes we made in cooking classes at school. All my favourites are in the book including sponge toffee called Yellowman. I read the book from cover to cover and sent a copy of it to my sister to share the memories. The pictures are beautiful . The writing style is always interesting and the recipes have been converted for American kitchens. To read and use the book is like a visit to Ireland. To David Bowers, the author, all I can say is Thank You in Irish and in English.
