Présentation de l'éditeur

Rancher Flint Ashmore never expected to find a redware potter squatting on the property he purchased along Cherry Creek with his four brothers and sister. With a ruthless fiancé on her heels, Julia Gast has fled from Pennsylvania to the Colorado Territory to set up her pottery business and raise horses. She desperately needs not only the rich clay deposits of Cherry Creek, but also cash to survive. Against her better judgment, she aligns herself with a renegade Indian who helps her gather wild horses to sell to the same Army which is hunting him. But long-held secrets in the Ashmore family and Julia's past will set off a series of chain reactions, throwing Flint and Julia together to try to thwart mutual enemies who are attempting to destroy them. Will quick wits, a simple ring flask, and a meddlesome Indian be enough to help the pair discover the truth... and to ultimately find the peace and love they are seeking?

With her fast-paced, but easy reading style, first-time author, Judy Ann Davis, takes you back to the Old West in the Colorado Territory. Pennsylvania Potter, Julia Gast, flees to Golden, Colorado in 1868 to set up her redware pottery business, raise horses and escape her past. Unknown to her, her now deceased uncle, had deeded the ranch to both her and an adopted sister of four rancher brothers. When trouble breaks out, Flint Ashmore, oldest brother, and Julia Gast must band together to find the culprits causing it.

The author provides enough twists and turns to provide an entertaining western story, and you will have no trouble finding colorful characters to carry the tale forward, including a renegade Indian, Two Bears, who names Julia Gast, Red Fox Woman. The novel has action, adventure, romance--and a touch of humor.

This novel would lend itself to a series. I woul highly recommend reading it.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Red Fox Woman has a lot to love! 1 novembre 2011

If you like a good western, Red Fox Woman by Judy Ann Davis is for you. If you enjoy romance, a good mystery, and interesting action and adventure, you will also enjoy this debut novel. Davis has, in a very economical 240 pages, created a set of wonderfully believable characters and placed them against a beautiful Colorado backdrop in the summer of 1868. Davis deftly handles a large cast of characters and manages to give them each well defined personalities and interesting motivations. She accomplishes this through deftly constructed dialogue which is the highlight of the novel. Nothing of what the characters say feels forced or contrived. I especially loved the interplay of her two principles, the title heroine, Julia Gast, and her rival and would-be lover Flint Ashmore. Interesting and complex, their relationship is the heart of the story. I was drawn to the Gast character because of her modern sensibilities which felt exactly right for this time period when gender roles were changing. I highly recommend this novel. Though westerns and romance are not my first choice, I am happy to have been given this book. You will be, too.

If you're looking for a "take along" novel, Judy Ann Davis's, Red Fox Woman, is a good book for vacation, travel and those waiting room visits. This mystery, western and romance genre-combination novel is made up of 28 easy readable chapters, and allows the reader the ability to stop at convenient points within the story.
Set in Golden, CO, the novel centers around a Pennsylvania potter and four rancher brothers with an adopted sister. Julia Gast has fled from Lancaster, PA, to avoid not only her fiancé, but also a secretive past. Along with a renegade Indian, Julia tries to raise and sell horses besides establish her pottery business where she sells ring flasks.
If you like true westerns with horse races, fights, Indians and whistling bullets, Red Fox Women does it well. And, you can't help but enjoy the gun-toting, strong-willed but feminine women as well.

Julia Gast is a woman on the run with a pocket full of secrets and an iron determination to create a new life for herself in the rugged Colorado wilderness. But when Flint Ashmore presents her with a deed naming him as owner of her property she must decide if she'll continue fleeing from her past or fight for her dream of raising horses on the ranch her uncle left her. Tempers flare and accusations are made; but in the end will they each give in to the attraction they feel for each other?

"Red Fox Woman" is completely enjoyable and, for me, is remenicsent of the master of all Westerns, Louis L'Amour. Judy Ann Davis has written a winner! Love, murder, suspicion and the vanquishment of blind prejudice all gallop for the spotlight in this won't-let-you-put-it-down novel.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A very engaging story! 20 octobre 2011
Par Elizabeth Basala - Publié sur Amazon.com
I loved this book. The story gripped me right from the start and never let go. I always enjoy a good historical fiction and this did not disappoint. There is an old west setting complete with cattle rustling, unsanctioned alliances with Native Americans, and disputes over property rights. In the midst of it all, an unlikely romance is budding. I found myself turning pages excitedly, eager to see how everything would turn out in the end.
