Présentation de l'éditeur

Seventeen year old Olivia Cohen has always had an appetite for blood and an aversion to the sun as a human and when she is killed by a mysterious young woman, she awakens and finds her appetite has heightened and her skin is now burned by the sun. Living her life in a colony with other people who live a "vampire-like" lifestyle, she has grown up hunting humans and believing there is a blood so powerful it will turn them from vampire-like into true vampires. On one of Olivia's final nights as a human she meets eighteen year old Troy Evans and is immediately drawn to the unique scent of his blood. Now as an actual vampire, she must learn how to suppress her need to hunt and kill for his sake and decide if his unique blood is worth saving from those who seek it.

WARNING: Recommended for upper YA (16+) for dark themes containing blood/violence, language, underage drinking and brief references to sex.

Full length novel at 96,000 words or about 320 pages.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 New Take on the Vampire Traditions 30 avril 2013
Par Kristine - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
"You are telling me that drinking another human's blood has enhanced your senses to near animalistic?"

This book has a whole different take on the traditional vampire traditions. A view that I found quite intriguing. Olivia is a blood drinking human in a secluded colony of blood drinking humans. These humans basically live the life of a vampire while searching for the key to becoming a true vampire. Olivia, the main character, is the daughter of this colonies leader and unknowingly embarks on an adventure that will bring her face to face with her mother in a search for answers. I have rated this book with THREE STARS.

I found the changes to the traditional vampire stories refreshing. The characters were fully developed and they all faced some inner conflicts that made this novel a real page turner. Not only was this a story with vampires, but it also held the tale of some Japanese supernatural beings as well. I found it interesting how the whole book tied together both of these supernatural elements. I had a difficult time putting this book down and for the majority of my reading time I was racing to the finish to discover the answers in which Olivia was searching for.

The reason I have taken a few stars off of this rating is due to the lack of editing. A lot of the times I felt as though the author had an idea in her head and simply raced to put it on paper. Normally I can see past these typos and errors but with this story I felt as though there were just too many. Had it not of been for these mistakes throughout the entire novel (typos, grammatical errors, wrong name used, double words, etc) this book would have been rated 4.5 stars. I know I generally do not rate for half stars, but one other small issue with this book just did not sit right with me. The hullucination after the overdose on blood was poorly put together and extremely difficult to follow. With the elimination of these two issues within this novel this book would have been a FIVE STAR read.

The book ends with a bit of a hook, and will potentially be part of a series. With that being said, I hope the author takes a little bit longer during the editing process in order to up the stakes in her future work. This book had amazing potential, this series could be one of the great ones.

All in all, I enjoyed the story greatly. It was difficult to stop reading and was a real page turner. I would recommend this novel to any patient urban fantasy reader.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Grammatical Errors Galore, Hard to Follow 23 avril 2013

In a time in which fantasy novels are so popular and plentiful, I found the concept of this story fantastically refreshing. A compound of blood-drinking humans immersing themselves in vampirical teachings and practices? I'm interested! However, I found it incredibly hard to -stay- interested in this book. Really, it seemed to me that the story was beefed up to draw readers in, which had the opposite affect on me. The plot changes course so many times that it becomes completely convoluted. A lot of characters are killed off, seemingly pointlessly.

Not that it matters too greatly, but I personally could not bear the vast amount of grammatical mistakes I found in this book. A lot of words seemed to be auto-corrected, not belonging at all in the sentences in which these were used.

All in all, the story was alright, but not something I would recommend to anyone as is. With a substantial edit and overhaul, however, it would be worth re-reading.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Left me wanting and not in a good way 28 février 2013

I'm just not sure about this book. It took me a while to get through because I had to make myself read it. The story sounded great from the description and it started out alright, however, I just kind of found myself bored with it. I thought the characters were wonderful and I liked the idea of it, but something just seemed missing for me. I got about halfway through it and stopped caring. I wish I could put my finger on what discouraged me about, but I can't seem to do it. Maybe I'm not in the right frame of mind for this novel and I will most likely try it again sometime in the future.
