Présentation de l'éditeur

The triumphant victory of humanity, turned into its biggest holocaust within the matter of a day. Never before had so many humans been killed in a single day, or a single year, or a single war ever. For months, humanity was numb with shock, fear and grief. Slowly that numbness gave way to something else. A deep anger and hatred at a level that transcended all boundaries to unite the human species as one. If there ever was anything that united the human species, the ‘Great Kinetic Holocaust’ would be on top of that list.

Humans realized that they were facing an existential threat. If a few more of these ‘Kinetic Ships’ were launched against Earth, humanity would be sent back to the stone ages, if anyone survived at all. Then it would take no time for the Shaitans to come and wipe out the remaining humans off the face of Earth. This was no way to live – under constant fear and threat of extinction. If this was to be the end of humanity, then there would be only one way humans would die – fighting.

It is never wise to let the war happen in your own home. It is far better to let the battle happen in your enemy’s home. But humans were constrained by their technology. Humans could not reach out and attack the Shaitan home world like they could reach ours. An unexpected gift from an unexpected source gives humans that ability. It finally enables humanity to strike Alpha Shaitan.

When humans reach the dark but beautiful worlds of Alpha Shaitan, they show the Shaitans what the combined wrath of humanity can do to their worlds. The human campaign on Alpha Shaitan was about revenge, it was also about deterrence. It was about sending a message that if the Shaitans even thought of causing grief to humanity, the Shaitans would suffer a hell lot more than they could imagine. The human campaigns were about neutralizing the ability of the Shaitans to mount attack on Earth.

Later historians would generally agree that the Alpha Shaitan campaign went a lot further than it was originally intended to. It probably was a lot more excessive than it should have been. The unimaginably terrible outcome of the Alpha Shaitan campaign is now generally accepted as the beginning of humanity’s reputation as such a terrifying and ruthless species to its enemies and detractors.

Whatever the peace loving, left wing historians might say in the future, to the men and women who fought the Alpha Shaitan campaign, they were fighting for a just cause. Tens of thousands of men and women sacrificed the best years of their lives to make sure that the Earth never suffered another Kinetic Holocaust at the hands of the Shaitans. Many of those Navy crew and Marines were themselves the ‘children of the Holocaust’. For them the campaign of Alpha Shaitan was a lot more personal. For them it was all about retribution.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 best of the series so far 5 août 2014

What I think is most unique about this story is that it actually has to have pauses in the space of months or years, or decades in some cases. I have read other sci fi that used hard science but usually the subject matter was over the course of months or things were set in motion in the distant past, over the course of the series so far we have gone almost 70 years (If I remember right) and we have watched the technolagy and vision of the world grow which I think is a nice touch. Personally I think this is the best in the series, as the first book was a good introduction, and the second book mostly dealt with innovating technology in the first book, but in this book we finally see humans really stepping out and building a space infrastructure.

That said at the only thing that I missed was there were no asteroid miners everyone who did any space stuff did it under the eye of the space agency. Truth be told as soon as space gets cheap enough to get too you will have guys scraping together rigs in the hopes of striking it rich in the asteroid belt like those folks from the show "gold rush".. The author correctly points out that military research and spending often ends up improving civilian lives (the computer is a good example of this) but civilian inventions often improve the military, think electricity.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Love this series 29 juillet 2014

It's a very easy space opera with a truly original story. The physics are consistent with the story and explained in a way that doesn't come off as dry.
What I find interesting for Sci-Fi (and I hope this comes across well) is the preponderance of characters of the Muslim faith. I don't recall any book I've read where this is the case.
It's nice to see the humanistic side of Muslim's, rather that the less than flattering view we American's and Europeans are frequently exposed to.

I do have one nit; your discussion of economics implies that it's a zero sum game. It's not, if a government spends billions on something, that money is never lost or wasted. It's returned in taxes and spent again and again.
If you build 800 missiles and shoot them, the only thing that is lost is the raw materials, and perhaps the time that went into making them. No one went into space and dump 2 billion dollars out the airlock never to printed again. I realize I may be over simplifying this a bit, but anymore and it'll turn into an economic dissertation.

You sir are definitely on my must read list.

Oh almost forgot! 'Johnny Walker Blue Label... the finest Scotch ever made.'
Surly you jest! It's blended bilge water!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Shaitan wars series going strong and getting better 11 août 2014

The series Shaitan Wars going strong, looking forward for the next installment.
Descriptions of the technology, space battles and ground battles are outstanding.
Author actually developed and described defense from kinetic killer weapon, that is quite unique, and it might actually work.
If you like reading about future technologies that are extrapolated from current day technology, and their application in military situations, this is the book, actually whole series is a must read. Since series give perspective how the technology might develop from present day to one hundred years into the future.
Also the book presents number of nice ideas about where we come from and why.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 the length is nice - unlike other ebooks that are more like novellas 2 août 2014

Writing is different - takes the time to explain characters. Also, the length is nice - unlike other ebooks that are more like novellas. One item I missed in this book was the Shaitan point of view. Though sparse in the prior books, it was nice to see how the "other side" thought. I missed that point of view in this book till the very end.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 entertaining let down by poor editing 9 août 2014

The story line was good but let down by poor editing. Examples being where the second world (Beta Shaitan)was being discussed and the references where for the first world (Alpha Shaitan). Also words missed in sentences. Would have been a great read but for the editing
