In the streets of Chicago exists an uneasy, centuries-old truce between vampires and their distant cousins, a race of shifters called drecks. Vampire enforcement agency, All the King’s Men (AKM), is charged with maintaining the truce, but when volatile enforcer Micah Black loses his mate and falls into the biological agony that results from the broken bond, he tests the boundaries of the truce by seeking out Apostle, a leader in the dreck community. Micah wants Apostle to kill him, a request Apostle is more than happy to fulfill.

When ex-Army medic Samantha Garrett inadvertently disrupts the plot and saves Micah’s life, a chain reaction sets Micah’s heart on a collision course with Sam’s, but he will have to protect her from Apostle and her obsessive ex-husband if they will have a chance at forever.

Warning: Contains explicit heterosexual sex, homosexuality (including a male/male sex act), and strong profanity.

What Reviewers Have Said About Rise of the Fallen:

"It's been a long time since a series has snagged my attention as thoroughly as the Black Dagger Brotherhood did, but All the King's Men has that distractingly addictive potential and this first story in the series hold nothing back." -GraveTells

"RISE OF THE FALLEN left me breathless and begging for more. It's filled with tension, romance, conflict, and a cast of characters screaming to tell their own stories. Being a debut novel, I cannot believe how well written this book is." -LoveMyBooks

"This book really took me by surprise! I wasn't expecting to love it this much but I did and I'm so glad I've found this author! It's so refreshing to find a Vampire story that isn't so much like all of the others out there but Donya Lynne has succeeded in making this book original and quite entertaining!" -Book Lovin Mamas

"When you can engage a reader's interest in all the characters and have them wanting more of each, you have a winner…I loved how real the characters felt." -United By Books

I read these 180 pages in a day. I was sick at home and felt like something with a touch of fantasy and kink.
This book is the first in a new fantasy series about the king's men.

- Rise of the Fallen
- Heart of the Warrior
- Micah's Calling - Novella Supplement to Rise of the Fallen

Three races coexist in the streets of Chicago: humans, vampires and their shifter cousins the drecks.
Micah is one of the strongest and most unsubordinated Vampire warriors. Many years ago he has lost Catherine his first mate. Now Jackson, a male vampire he started a one sided mating with left him. Losing this bond, made Micah lose his will to live. Pain seems to be his only relief, so he decides to let a drake kill him after having beaten him to near death.
Samantha Garret is an ex-army nurse, running from her husband, hiding in a pole dance club and a one room flat to escape him. When, after a long night of work, she is on her way home she hears a man being beaten to death and does not hesitate, she pulls a weapon and saves the man.
But in fact the man is no real man and he did not really want to be saved, but waking up so close to this incredible woman, everything seems different to him.

While reading I had plenty of times the impression that I already read this. I don't really want to compare it with Lara Adrian or J.R Ward as it is really not as good, but the theme is similar.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Very entertaining 2 avril 2012

So I think amazon had suggested me that book and I was interested because I recognized the model on the cover (I'm an Adrei Andrei fan). I downloaded the sample and decided to read it after my next book. Accidently I "met" the author on facebook a few days later and got in a short conversation with her (she commented on a post of friend of mine). That was fun. I promised her an honest review. Here it is:

I really loved this book. It is PNR and it has traits that reminds of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. But let's face it - it is not BDB. So much said at the beginning. And that is good because these books are already getting written by Mrs. Ward. Donya Lynne creates another world - not as absolute as BDB. Her characters have different abilities. For example: Yes, we find "mating" and "bonding", but it must not be unbreakable. Some of the vampires are able to walk outside during the days (due to the fact that they have human blood, too). So - even if the book isn't as long and complex, there are different ideas already behind it, that makes me want to read more. Thus saying: My only complaint is that the book is too short. I would have loved to read more. On the other hand, the book is fast paced, you never get bored, you can read it very fluently. You just don't notice that time is running.

I don't want to tell the story here, you need to read it. I love the way both hero and heroine are described; Not just perfect but with little flaws in behavior. I especially likes Sam because she is neither the fragile beauty with a core of steel nor the kickass fighter woman(these are the stereotypes for female characters). She is a bit of both and then mostly herself - and she knows what she wants without being hardass. Nice done. And well, Micah....hm...yummy..and so conflicting... ;)

The subplots were very entertaining, too. And I'm very curious about Trace...yes, I need to know more.

The best features in the books? The dialogues. I grinned nearly the whole time, especially because they sounded so "right" and "normal". Does that make sense? They were funny, teasing and entertaining but not in an artificial way.
So the basics for more books are laid, too. I'm going to buy them.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:

Generally I don't like to do the comparison thing, but I feel like I sort of have to here so people get a bit of a feel of what they'll be jumping into. ALL THE KINGS MEN is sort of like a subset of The Black Dagger Brotherhood, meets Alpha Pack, meets Brotherhood of Blood.

All the Kings Men is a group of warriors trained to fight rogue shapeshifters and other problematic preternaturals.

Micah is one of the strongest on the team, but he's had a rough run with his mates and is in a VERY bad place as the story begins. He's a complex, tortured, bad boy and if you like alpha males, you can't help but love him and feel for the guy.

Sam is one of those bad a** heroines that you love to love. She holds her own, looks out for others, is sexy, savvy and smart.

Her and Micah together are absolute dynamite! The sexual chemistry of these two literally jumps off of the page and you can't help but re-read sections because they are really...just...that...good!

The supporting cast was phenomenal as well. I personally cannot wait to find out more about Trace, the myserious self appointed guardian of Micah and best friend of the couple. There is so much more than meets the eye with him and I am so excited to find out what's up.

The bad guys in this tale were nasty. Diabolical in their scheming, ruthless in their pursuit, and utterly enjoyable to read.

If you haven't gotten the hint, I loved the book. I thought it was fantastic. My one problem was the ending because I am not a fan of the cliff-hanger and Donya was a dirty tease at the end of this book. The bonus is that I don't have to wait long for book #2 to find out what the heck happens. :)

LITERAL ADDICTION gives Rise of the Fallen 4 1/2 Skulls and would recommend it to Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and all Alpha Male Vampire lovers. Definitely a great new find and I want to thank Jowanna at Pimpin' Reads for telling me I had to read it! :)

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A breath of fresh air. 25 mars 2012

I hardly ever give a book five stars, but this was a rare story, I just couldn't put down. This author has taken a way over populated paranormal genre and brought us something different. Her characters are strong, yet troubled. You have no problem relating the their emotions and it's nice to see something where a vampire's life is not perfect. Rise of the fallen gave me what many of the mainstream authors I have loved for years have started failing to give. Where they have left me wishing for more, and leaving me feeling like there just could have been more to the book, Micah Black's story took me to the edge and dropped me over it. I wasn't left feeling cheated as I set the book down. I look forward to this authors series. If she continues with work like this, she could easily join or surpass the ranks of Ward, Kenyon, and Feehan. Well written, well thought out and a total joy to read that left me longing for the next book.

I really liked the characters. They were believable and had unique personalities. I love series that have big groups of characters because there's a huge potential for an awesome world to be created. I felt cheated out of that here. I had no idea what the rules were and was dropped right into the middle of a plot that already seemed to be half done. Everybody knew Micah to be a bad ass bastard and I didn't; I just saw the broken pieces left over from a bad breakup. I honestly searched to see if I had maybe not started on the first book of the series; I thought Tristan's story might have been told as an introduction and explained who the drecks were and what the hell was going on. Nope. This is the first. The second book (Heart of the Warrior) is a much better introduction (and a very sexy read).

What to say about this book? RISE OF THE FALLEN left me breathless and begging for more. It's filled with tension, romance, conflict, and a cast of characters screaming to tell their own stories. Being a debut novel, I can not believe how well written this book is. Mark my words this is not the last of Donya Lynne or of her world known as ALL THE KING'S MEN. Bring on book 2!
