Présentation de l'éditeur

He’s alive! Oh, in the name of God! Now I know what it feels like to be God!

Contrary to vicious Internet rumours, DI Romney is not dead. He returns in this, the fourth Romney and Marsh File, to lead his team of Dover detectives in the hunt for doers of dirty deeds. He’s also looking for answers to more personal mysteries.

The wind of change is blowing through this town. Whether we like it or not, this growth of local crime is a complete fiction.

Broken homes, broken dreams and broken bodies are just some of the cheerier aspects of the R&M File that goes to show sometimes it’s a dog’s life.

Full money back guarantee if you don’t enjoy this book. (T&C apply)

Dear reader,
With the arrival of A Dog’s Life the R&M Files now number four. They don’t have to be read in order; they do all work as stand-alone novels. However, to get the most out of each it is recommended that they are consumed in the order in which they were prepared, a bit like the courses of a good meal. (Who wants to eat ice-cream before a bowl of soup?)

#1 Rope Enough
#2 Making a Killing
#3 Joint Enterprise
#4 A Dog’s Life

Some comments on the Romney and Marsh Files:

“I have read all three of the Romney and Marsh files and have enjoyed many hours of entertainment.”

“I've read all three in the series of Inspector Romney and I am rather sad to see there are no more. I have enjoyed them immensely and would recommend that they all be made into films or TV series.”

“As with the others in the series the author sets a good pace with interesting character elements and a plot which keeps you interested throughout.”

“Done all three books now in this trilogy and been surprised how much I have enjoyed them as I have not read crime novels before.”

“I have read all 3 books in this series in the last month, I hope there will be more to come from this author as I have really enjoyed them.”

“This is the third book of the Romney and Marsh series I have read or should I say devoured in less than a week.”

“Excellent book. I hope this is not the last book in the Romney and Marsh series that Mr Tidy writes. Really enjoyed all three books.”

Pleasant enough little read. My preferred type of British mystery without psychological thriller influences. Not deep psychology to keep you on your toes. Just plain old village crime to solve by the local constable. Each character has their own private individual problems along side the principal mystery. Written in the usual village murder style with the local police catching the bad guys who commit the murder and the object for the reader is to try and figure out the killer with the clues provided or not provided as the case may be with each individual author.

A simple little read that doesn't stress the reader to death.

I have read all 4 of Tidy's Romney and Marsh books. This one was excellent. Very cleaverly done. I found myself actually chuckling and laughing out loud in some places - something I never do. Good twists and turns kept you guessing. I am looking forward to many more in this series. Great writing job, recommend highly.

This series has matured and gotten even better with each installment. A Dog's Life was near perfect! I adore Romney, and I am feeling closer to understanding Marsh, Grimes, and even Beaudicca. It was a smart move to start using first names among the characters, showing that they are becoming closer colleagues and making them more accessible to the reader as well. Joy Marsh, particularly, has added dimension in this book. Excellent police procedurals, in my opinion, are all about the cast of characters with the actual policing being secondary; the mystery, however, must be compelling in some way or what's the point? This mystery revolving around the publishing industry - traditional book versus ebook - gives the author license to make his feelings known and to present the other side of the issue through the literary agent. It makes you think about the fall out in any industry when big change is afoot. Talk about topical! The charm of this series, though, is owed to Romney. I can't get enough of his tongue in cheek negativity, his glass half-empty world view, his personal insecurities nicely hidden behind bravado, and yes, his kindness. But most of all, the humor Tidy gets to display through his antics. How often do you have to lay a book down because you're laughing too hard to continue? I ran the gamut from cackling, chuckling to eye-tearing
guffaws. Please give us more, soon! P.S. Mother Teresa is the correct spelling:-)

Actually 3.5 stars. The whole rabies thing was unnecessary. If Romney thought he had rabies, it makes him seem wouldnt he just check with the owner for a vaccination? This literary device was clearly done so that there would be an analysis of the dog's death, but the author could have come to that in other ways.

Of course, I thought Marsh leaving her car parked in the same place after her keys were stolen was questionable, as she is very experienced, and would have known better. I also thought having her brush off her mother, who has cancer and heart issues, was unlikely for most women...but who knows. Perhaps this was a necessary device in the story.
5.0 étoiles sur 5 A virtuoso performance by Oliver Tidy 10 août 2014

Oliver Tidy does a juggling act in this fourth book in the Romney and Marsh files series. There's some gritty realism leavened with some flashes of humor, there's four gruesome deaths - one of them in the past, there's the partial backstories and the present personal and professional problems of both Romney and Marsh, there's a couple of surprise twists that shine new light on what had seemed to be already illuminated, and finally there's a little dash of Dirty Harry at the end. I've now read all four of the books in the series and have enjoyed them all. This one, I think, is the one I found to be the most complex and interesting.
