Présentation de l'éditeur

At the beginning of this second installment of Michael Phillips’ best-selling Secret of the Rose series, Baron von Dortmann is being held captive in a Russian prison. And Sabina von Dortmann is in Berlin—desperately searching for her father. Living a dangerous double life on both sides of the Berlin Wall, Sabina enlists the help of the Jewish Underground—and is unexpectedly reunited with her lost love, Matthew McCallum.

Matthew and Sabina join forces in a daring rescue attempt—with the KGB hot on their trail. In this dangerous, life-changing mission, they must rely on their wits, their friends, and their faith in God to succeed.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
While studying at Humboldt State University in the early 70’s, Michael Phillips and his wife, Judy, established the One Way Bookshop—a small Christian bookstore catering mainly to other students. Now the bookstore is an important part of the Christian community in Humboldt County, and Phillips is one of the country’s most respected and prolific Christian authors.

Phillips’ long publication history includes over twenty non-fiction books, including biographies of Victorian author George MacDonald and Olympic athlete-turned-Congressman Jim Ryun. But he’s best known for his fiction—and is considered one of the major founders of the Christian fiction genre. In the past two decades, Phillips has written more than sixty fiction titles, many of which have been best-sellers. Altogether, his fiction, nonfiction, and devotional writings have sold over seven million copies worldwide.

Quatrième de couverture

BERLIN, 1961. Karin Duftblatt walks the streets of Berlin on a secret mission. She is weary and tired, much like the metropolis she inhabits-a city that still carries the ravages of the war some two decades earlier. Even so, her new name and identity can't conceal the blonde pair and blue eyes of the beautiful young girl she once was.

She is pursued by an evil man, once her suitor. Her father remains a captive in a dark tell, with little hope for freedom. And she herself feels imprisoned-her life a secret in a city of secrets.

SUDDENLY she sees a face. Familiar. Can it be? No ... but it is! Is the fairy tale to be believed--or will the explosions and gunfire on the lonely field just outside of Berlin bring a premature end to the secret of the rose?

Sabrina works in West Berlin and lives in East Berlin. She lives a double life. What gave her purpose in the midst of the greyness were her other responsibilities: night work, weekend work, middle-of-the-night work. The Network. She is reunited with Matthew, an American from her past. Together they take a journey to discovering the secrets of the rose. She was left an inheritance; not of worldly riches but of goodness. She was given the responsibility to faithfully walk as God's woman whever he might lead her. This is a must read book

Michael Phillips is wonderful in taking history and weaving a story of intrigue, faith and personal endurance. Historical fiction can be very exciting or very boring depending on the writer and he makes it come alive. You will be blessed by this series.

I am reading the series for the 2nd time ( it's been years since 1st time) the only thing about Michaels books like this is that he gives sooo much historical stuff first, that it seems like the story line is never going to get going. And, in through out the book, he goes on forever about things that begin to stagnate the story as well. I love the series a lot ,even when I'm having to "wade" thru all the extra stuff.

This second installment takes place when the Berlin Wall is built. The main characters have grown from teenagers into full fledged adults and have matured in different ways as they have experienced life into spiritually stronger persons. There is still loads of deeper spiritual content and strong character development.

This is the perfect ending to a perfect story. Though the series is continued, in this book the Baron is out out of prison and Matthew and Sabina finally find each other for keeps. I cried over the reunion. You have to read this book.
