HASH(0x968ecc30) étoiles sur 5 Royksopp: Royksopp's Night Out (astralwerks) 28 mars 2006
Par Young Music Reviewer - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Ask me and I'll tell you that there is really no point in me listening to a live CD, but when it comes to listening to Electronica, you have to know how they keep things up. Especially hearing Royksopp execute their hits live on stage. After hearing Royksopp keep you occupied in the rain with Melody AM, and take you the a whole new state in chillout electronica with The Understanding, to hear it all live is more than a treat to behold. Royksopp's "What Else Is There?" does not start off with the beat, but theatrically. After that, Karen Dreijer's clear voice elevates "What Else Is There?" to a wonderful height live. "Only This Moment" doesn't really sound as equally enticing as it was on the album, but nonetheless the music is amazing just the same.

The dance track of the decade "Remind Me" is a treat to behold, but where they kind of worry people is using the space voice, instead of the ordinary voice, and those who love the catchiness of the line "Remind, Remind, Remind me" will have to wait until the near end of the song after the closing repeat of first verse. And those who loved "Sparks" will get more of a broadway-like version, before making you dance the way Goldfrapp made you gyrate. They also bothered to tweak "Poor Leno" up to the same exact level "49 Percent" was tweaked. Fans of the chill track will be disappointed a little, but fans will also like how "Poor Leno' is upped to a more cosmic level. As "Poor Leno" became more pumped, "Go Away" is there to hand you another good crunchy chillout track, as well as becoming the more aggressive brother of "49 Percent". I shouldn't have to tell you about how Royksopp is handing you a good and long to-be-veteran track of its kind "Alpha Male".

For those expecting a band like Royksopp to cover a song like Queens of the Stone Age's "Go With the Flow" quite terribly (and way before you even picture them singing the lyrics, so it will come off as if it makes sense for them to cover that song), the guitars used in "Alpha Male" are replaced by the likes of laser electronics. It works out quite the same, actually. Although, QOTSA simply won't be impressed a bit with the results. Then Royksopp decide to close the live album with a more lushcousin to "Trisste Globale" "Teppefall". I never thought once about an album trying so hard to top the original CDs, but if you ask me, Royksopp's Night Out does just that for a while. And the thing wrong? It is going to take a while till it becomes available in America.

HASH(0x9693b24c) étoiles sur 5 Live Electronica... Thank you Röyksopp 17 août 2010

I'll admit it, I came late to the game. I became a fan of Röyksopp in about 2007, after they started to become famous in the US. This being said, this live album, and the bands debut album, "Melody A.M." are two of my favorite CDs.

This Live EP is great. The live recording is especially awesome and crisp sounding, and the crowd noise and banter is very interesting to hear. It really makes one feel as if they are at the concert, sans the visual effects. The track listing is also perfect, mixing several hit singles ("What Else Is There?" and "Only This Moment") and some awesome remixes of the band's hits (the "Poor Leno" and "Remind Me" remixes come to mind) with some truly interesting tid-bits ("Teppefall"). The high-light of the disc is cover/remix of the Queens of the Stone Age song "Go with the Flow". Queens of the Stone Age have never sounded so groove-tastic.

All-in-all, this is a great live disc. The only thing I could've asked for is that Erlend Øye would've reprised his vocals on "Poor Leno" and "Remind Me". Other than that, it's great. I realize live music (and electronic music) isn't for everyone, but this one should really snag your attention.

I love Royksopp and thought "The Understanding" was one of the best albums of last year. This EP finds them (or their record company) trying to let fans know that they are also an interesting live spectacle to be witnessed. Unfortunately, this live EP is a bit short on ideas. The tracks presented here are no different whatsoever than their album versions with the odd exception of crowd noise and using computerized vocals on "Remind Me" instead of actually having Erlend Oye there to sing. Royksopp sound fine live but you really have to see electronic groups in person to fully appreciate what they do; on CD it's just repetitive and boring. The only real reason to get "Royksopp's Night Out" is the great electro version of the Queens Of The Stone Age track, "Go With The Flow". It's not available anywhere else to my knowledge and it's a fresh take on an already great rock track.

Other than that, "Night Out" should be avoided. Also, those of you who bought the "What Else Is There" EP should be warned that the live version of "Alpha Male" included on that single is the exact same version here. And when you consider "Alpha Male" is over eight minutes long and this EP is only 39 minutes total, you're ultimately paying 16 dollars for....well, you get the idea. Can't wait for NEW Royksopp material!

Cd's cant match up to them live. They are amazing. Compared to the cd's they have put out there is way more energy on the live versions. M. Fulkerson is a retard and please ignore his negative view of this album.
