Présentation de l'éditeur

Blurb for SGA: Unascended
Front strap line: The journey home starts from within

Lost and Found...

In the fragile peace following Queen Death’s defeat, Dr. Daniel Jackson arrives in Atlantis to indulge in some real archaeology. Naturally, things don’t go according to plan.

Convinced that an Ascended Elizabeth Weir saved his life, Dr. Rodney McKay argues that she must have escaped her replicator body in order to ascend. No one believes him, but when rumors reach Atlantis of a woman with no memory who calls herself ‘Elizabeth’, Rodney is determined to track her down.

Meanwhile, Daniel’s research uncovers evidence of Vanir activity in the Pegasus galaxy - evidence that casts both light and shadow over the mystery of Elizabeth...

Stargate Atlantis: Unascended

Ahead of them, he could see the green line of brush that sloped down to the river. So could every small animal trying to escape the fire. Anything that wasn't caught in the nets would make for the protection of the water—

"They're going to be waiting at the river," Ronon said, catching up to Daniel. He sounded as though this were no more than an easy jog.

"I know," John called from behind him. "But they don't look like great swimmers, so when we get there, everybody into the water."

"We're going to have to go through these guys," Ronon said.

"We’ve just met an entirely new intelligent species, and we’re about to make first contact by shooting them," Daniel said.

"You got a better idea?"

"Try warning shots," John said. "And, yes, Rodney, I remember why that’s a bad idea, but we're heading straight for the river."

"I'm just saying the two things I didn't want in my day were dinosaurs and fire!" Rodney said, unslinging his own P-90 and cradling it as he ran.

"They're not dinosaurs, McKay."

"Birds are essentially dinosaurs, any paleontologist—"

Ronon grabbed the back of Rodney's jacket, thrusting him forward faster. "Shut up and run!"

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A superb addition to the post-series novels 15 juillet 2014

I was a huge fan of Elizabeth Weir from her first appearance, and the appreciation only grew when Torri Higginson took over the role and truly brought her to life. I was distraught when she died, so I was thrilled by the bits and pieces of her we saw in the past Legacy books. Now we get a full-fledged return of the character I loved, and in the hands of authors as skilled as these, I knew I didn't have anything to worry about.

The novel is split into two plotlines: one involves our characters picking up the pieces following the extremely eventful Legacy series. If you haven't read the past six novels (firstly, you should catch up, but secondly...) you don't necessarily have to read them in order to appreciate this book. The authors recap things just enough to catch up newbies or refresh the memories of those of us who have followed every novel since "Homecoming." The other part of the novel is dedicated to Elizabeth's slow return to this mortal coil. It was a believable transition from the total amnesia of being kicked out by the other Ascended Ancients to the beginnings of memory. Along the way we get some very well-drawn exploration of the Pegasus Galaxy without seeing it through the biased eyes of an Atlantis team. The Travelers are especially interesting in this context.

This book is a great addition to the post-series adventures, and it brings home one of my favorite lost characters. I look forward to the next book to see where the threads left by this story get picked up and where the story goes from here.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 good writing 13 juillet 2014

Much preferred this book. Did not have an agenda to bring across. A little slow in the beginning, but the action increased and made it a good read. The author got the dialogue well between the characters. The only unsure thing was, is that characters seemed a little different then what was portrayed in earlier books, either their relationships with each other, or their view of circumstances. Of course, that could just be a personal opinion.

Bravo! This installment is the best in the series by far. It gets back into the spirit of the tv series better than a couple of the previous books and is a real page turner. I eagerly await the next entries!

I always thought the Weir Character and the Actress were the most interesting of the series.. that were not fully developed. "Before I sleep" was merely the Tip of the Iceberg of the potential.

For example, she had to re-awake "three times" to rotate the Z-PMs in order to reach the SGA era.. what happened during those Era's? How could she have interacted with the history of the Pegasus and Milky Way Galaxies.. or the Asgard.. wasn't it curious how much the Asgard already seemed to know about the SG1 team.. and implicitly trust them. And the Vanir also seemed to know so much about the City.. as if waiting.

The later espisode "The Return Part1/Part2" I really hoped they would develop into a whole new show.. opening it up rather than painting themselves in a corner. Even "Universe" could have built on that with a much more rational basis and "Mystery" for the Ancients "left behind.." so much unrealized potential.

I hope this story goes in those directions.. I'm eagerly awaiting the download. the later plot elements became so formulaic and didn't take risks like the first two seasons. Likable characters can be interesting and further the show.. by exploring the guests and furthering their stories.. enriching the whole.. but step by step it cut off threads and devolved into a centrist viewpoint.. almost to the point of denying anything outside the gateroom existed. That could be a flaw of "cost control" managing the storylines.. but what is not shown can be just as powerfull.

I know arc storybooks have to leave most of the pieces on the playing board as they found them.. to ever hope remaining "cannon".. but I'd almost hope for a defiant alternative in another direction.. not fork or splinter.. but a recharacterization of history.. like the Star Trek: Department of Temporal Investigations series... another "perspective" an evolving of the story to correct the way it was told the first time to open up plot threads and go where none has gone before.

Ascension whether by electronic means, or Spiritual seems to touch on several taboo subjects of religion and science. Stargate Universe seemed to be searching for a god or gods in the Cosmic Background radiation patterns.. almost like looking for Whispers of Wisdom from the Angels or Heaven. the James Webb telescopes mission in 2017 or 2018 seems very much like the original mission of the Destiny in Stargate Universe.. this story realm is far from played out.. I hope this story furthers that.. and I plan to write a thorough review after readng it.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Reward for the Patient Weir Fans (No Spoilers) 4 août 2014

Though this doesn't always happen in novelized sci-fi, even within one series, this latest iteration of the Stargate: Atlantis Legacy books captured the essence of the show. I could immediately picture what I read in my mind instead of having to struggle to make it seem real.

Dr. Elizabeth Weir is one of my favorite characters across all fiction—the Kathryn Janeway of the Pegasus galaxy. Reading this book offered me the hope that many Weir fans have held since the on-screen end of the character's arc. I hope Torri Higginson reads about this novel; it deals with the history and struggles of the beloved character that she brought to life.

The book makes strong use of the regular complement of characters and offers insight into and development of them as people, notably Teyla and Richard Woolsey. Dr. Daniel Jackson's presence is a treat, and the book takes advantage of plot elements from both the TV show and the preceding Legacy novels. I hope that the next novel is well under way by now. I can't wait to learn more. I, for one, vote for Rodney McKay to dye his hair back.
