5.0 étoiles sur 5 Profound and insightful take on creation and its workings 14 octobre 2010

Several years ago a friend gave me a copy of this book suggesting that I might like it. We frequently got into philosophical and religious discussions, and at one point he felt that it would be an easier discussion if I had read the Summum book. So, I took the book from him and read it over the weekend. My first thought was 'Meh, nothing new, nothing big or life altering. Interesting yes, but particularly helpful? I don't know." It all seemed so plain, so simple and straight forward that I didn't really see why he felt that I should read the book. We had a short conversation about what I thought of it and that was that.

Then an interesting thing happened. Over the course of the next few months, anytime we ended up having one of our epic philosophical discussions about the nature of reality or God or death or just about anything, we found ourselves communicating our ideas in direct relation to the principles in the Summum book. Over time we realized that the ideas in the book had profoundly affected our ability to understand and relate to subjective ideas regarding nature and reality as we saw it. After realizing we were using the principles of the book to such a large extent I took a second look at. This time, when I read this book, it was an entirely different animal. Full of vibrancy and insight and a depth I had found in few other books on similar subjects. I couldn't believe I was reading the same book.

After really studying this book for a year or so I started looking into its origins and eventually came across the Kybalion. I was surprised to find that the Summum book was a derivative work, so I eagerly got a copy of the Kybalion hoping for more insight of the kind I had gotten from the Summum book.

I was a bit underwhelmed when I started reading the Kybalion. Much of the two books are very similar, however, in my opinion, the older English language is a little distracting. The Kybalion contains a lot more mystical or secret sounding language in my opinion, which to me is a distraction. This may simply be a product of the time the book was written (early 1900's). Also, some of the most vitally important factors for being able to use the principles found in both books are totally absent from the Kybalion. This was also a disappointment, and is why I have ended up going back to the Summum book for years and years and have not been able to read through the Kybalion even a second time.

Basically, the Summum book dramatically affected how I look at creation and nature and God for the better. The insights it's provided me over the years have been of such practical value to me I can easily say I am not the same person I would have been had I not become familiar with this little jewel. I highly recommend this book to everyone I know.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Much Similarities to the Kybalion 9 décembre 2001
Par Brian Cheong - Publié sur Amazon.com
Readers of "The Kybalion" will realize that there is much common between the two, for example, the arrangement of topics and topics discussed. "The Kybalion" was published much earlier (around 1920 by Yogi Publication Society). Today, "The Kybalion" is printed by a couple of publishers (probably it has become "freeware", due to copyright not renewed...). Both books are about seven Hermetic principles (you can find out more by reading the reviews about "The Kybalion").
Difference between the two is that this one aims to sound more "mystical" and complete, when in fact it is "The Kybalion" that is a true, earlier published work. It also tries to be more complete by mentioning the creation of the universe, etc.
"Summum: Sealed, Except to the Open Mind" is now available as freeware and can be found at (...). The impression I got after reading is that it is just to lead people to a website to buy dubious goods.
Don't waste your money on this book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Evolved knowledge for your consumption. 1 mai 2009
Par Steven J. Swanson - Publié sur Amazon.com
This book changed my life and it continues to change my life every moment I contemplate the seven principles and the Master Key. You can download this book for free online in an evolved edition. It even includes commentary on the evolution of the Kybalion. Beautiful work.

I purchased the old hardback to see what the original text was like. Then I left it on an airplane. I'm glad I did, because the free online version is much better.

This work is a much more comprehensive and evolved work on the Kybalion. It is the current summum bonum of literary works on the subject of Creation.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The quintessential philosophy - a definite must read! 14 janvier 1999
Par Un client - Publié sur Amazon.com
A large part of my life was spent wondering how everything in life ties in together. Between the different philosophies, sciences, and religions, it seemed practically impossible to find a common ground and piece things together. But after reading and re-reading this book, I was simply stunned and amazed how many aspects of life began to fall into place. The principles it introduces are simple and basic. Yet they explain so much. Each time I read it, more unfolds to me. There is so much between the lines, I can consider it nothing less than profound. If there were any one book that should be require reading, this is it. Its contents reveal a groundwork that anyone can use to explore the deepest of mysteries and actually find some answers! The explanation it offers for the cause of Creation is first rate -- abstract, yet perfectly logical. Of all the other explanations I've come across from various religions, philosophies, and science, I have found none to be more intelligent than what is found in this work.

I quit reading this book. I don't understand what the author is talking about. Maybe I'll try again later...but right now, I have trouble understanding the logic of this book.
