Après le premier volume de Santé d'Orazio quel plaisir de retrouvé sa "touche" sur ce nouvelle ouvrage. Le premier étant déjà collector, à posseder absolument !

Not a good one 29 mars 2010

I bought this book thinking that was going to ad something, that was going to show me something about the fashion world on the 90s (I think the book was done on the nineties).
But 10% of the book have some good photography.
The rest is just pictures with bad lighting, and pictures about the author posing with naked models. I'm sure the photographer loves Himself.
The layout is good.

A review 30 janvier 2010

I was happy upon seeing that Sante D'Orazio had come out with a second book of his work. The work is very much in the vein of a Private View, actually it is exactly in the same vein, and that is it's weakness. Sante D'Orazio's presentation and styling is the same as a work over a decade old- things written so small in the margins you can just make it out, lists of parties he went to and who was there, etc. It feels like there has been no growth, it feels like it is in exactly the same place as the previous book- Really, it feels like these are just outtakes from the first book. I love his work but I guess in a nostalgic sense. I returned the book, I felt I truly already had it. I give it 2 stars because, yes his work is beautiful but it is rehashed here. Best work here was the lovely work with Brooke Shields. She looks so much better here than a decade back, unfortunately Sante D'Orazio does not fair as well.

Not what I expected 4 mars 2011

The book is okay. Not great, not horrible. It has images of stars & models in different situations, but way more images of the photographer/author with stars than I thought. Definitely not representative of what the half dozen or so images that we're allowed to see in the sample pages/images.

I'm not sure if it is worth the $25 I paid for it, but it is worth it for at least $15. Just my thoughts. :)

I've been a fan of Sante D'Orazio for what seems like forever. I've followed his career as he has photographed countless models and actors in editorial and ad campaigns for magazines both domestic and International. When word of a new book release became public knowledge early last year, I pre-ordered the book immediately. Upon arrival I perused the papers carefully and was taken back a bit... it was surprising similar to A Private View (released in 1998). This book has been a much anticipated and awaited treasure after the (in my opinion) lackluster letdown of Photographs, D'Orzario's 2002 book release. Personally, I enjoy Barley Private - it does lend to his unique style, it reads like a diary with dozens of photos, notes, test shots, etc thrown in to give the reader a glimpse into D'Orazio's life. I would have like for it to have include more of his commercial works. Overall, it's a worth the Amazon deal price and if you were a fan of Private View - you'll be a fan of Barely Private.

Barely Private - Sante D'Orazio (Taschen) 26 octobre 2010
Par BlogOnBooks - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Ahhh... to be photographer Sante D'Orazio. If his new photo compilation book, "Barely Private" is any indication, this is one photog that is livin' la vida loca!

From Miami to L.A., Mexico to St. Barth's, "Barely Private" is part photobook and part international travelogue. It seems that beyond merely being a top photographer whose work has been featured in everything from Playboy and Maxim to Elle and Italian Vogue, D'Orazio lives the life of a world traveling, A-lister, partying and hanging out with everyone from P. Diddy to D. Hopper, Helmut Newton to Francis Ford Coppola (and yes, ok, the Clintons.)

Well formated as a datebook, replete with extensive handwritten notes, D'Orazio's showbook exhibits nothing of the formality of most fashion photo books, but rather is filled with page after page of casual and raw imagery of models and rock stars, (and appearing to live the life of both!) While this might normally have been expected to be a portfolio piece, it is truly a diary; a diary of the fun-filled life of a top fashion/celebrity photographer.

While "Barely Private" is as much a `behind the scenes' document as anything else, there are some photos - most noticeably those of Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson, Mickey Rourke and Angelina Jolie - that actually look like `assignments,' though much of the rest of the material (including the use of airline ticket stubs) show that life is basically one jet-set party for D'Orazio.

Jealous? You should be.
