Présentation de l'éditeur

Demi knows she is far from normal. She can feel it every time she walks near a park, or a tree, or a flower. She has a gift-or a curse; green things call to her. They tug at her soul and she has no idea how to control it. But Demi has it all figured out. She's going to be a ballerina just like her mother wants. And since the dance studio is the only place she feels like she fits in, it’s the perfect plan. That is, until she meets Dylan, a boy with a similar gift. Dylan shows Demi the path to discovering who she is and what fate holds for each of them.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A complete novel. 30 décembre 2013

When most books we read now are part of a long series, it's refreshing to read a complete story. And what a story! Exciting, fresh. We learn as Demi does, about her strange affinity to growing things. Her journey has romance, yes, but we see her grow and change and become what she was meant to be. Too bad our world doesn't have a Demi and Dylan. Too bad our world might need them...

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A lot of fun! 6 décembre 2013

This entire book was enjoyable, but the last quarter or so was pretty fantastic.

In the vein of young adult paranormal romance, this story draws on Greek mythology, and ties it all together neatly. The ending chapters show this to be more meaningful than your average "coming of age with a supernatural twist" story.

A fun read for sure. Would love to see it as a major motion picture someday!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 A Mash-up of Potter, Twilight, and Percy Jackson... and Glee? 26 janvier 2015

Kind of a strange tale, this one. A mash up of wizards, demons, and Greek mythology, with a geeky ballerina thrown in for good measure. It definitely kept me reading to the end, but this story rambled all over the place with so many different elements that, for the most part, made little sense and didn't clarify the story line much.

The main characters' angst about being 'different' got a little old after a while, annoying, really - I was wishing for Demi and Dylan to grow a little backbone. If I had a gift to bloom plants profusely I'd become a Johnny Appleseed rather than a shrinking violet. She's insecure, yet she dances like a prima ballerina? He controls the weather, any kind of water, and sings like a rock star, but he can't fight back against a tyrant and bully? And what's with the "Godless human" bias? Slightly offensive to anyone who happens to be one, or the other, or both. I kept waiting for the Elf Queen to show up and claim them both as her long lost children. But no, we had to travel to the underworld and see what the dead people were up to, trying to cross that river named after an 80's rock band...

The mythological references really just added to the confusion. And I think the author missed a great opportunity for a truly interesting character when she literally demonized the antagonist rather than exploring the dark yet somehow attractive nature of death and its function in our human cosmology. But wait, the main characters weren't human. They were only raised by them. Silly demigods. Tricks are for kids.

Yes, a strange mashup of Potter, Twilight, and Percy Jackson. I kept reading just to find out if there might be a little more clarity thrown in there somewhere. I was disappointed more often than not.

With that said, I'll give this author one more chance by reading another of her books, but if it isn't any better or more coherent than this one, I'm out.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Not my Saratoga!! 23 mai 2014

This book was a big surprise for me, mainly because I didn't read about it before I ordered it on my Kindle. I spent 52 years of my life in Saratoga Springs and I thought it would be interesting to read about sites that I knew. WRONG!!!. Yes, the Performing Arts Center was and is still there. But one trafic light? Saratoga is much bigger than that. Once I got past that idea of one traffic light, this was a great read and went in a direction I never could have in anticipated. I once had an
interest in mythology and the trips to Hell were very graphic and frightening. I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. Looking forward to more books by this author

Such a Great Read! While it is a young adult character it was as timeless as Greek Mythology. The characters were awesome, even the evil character. The last few chapters were so good, I had to finish them and couldn't the book down!!
