Présentation de l'éditeur

(Regular price $5.99) Hilarious and heartwarming.

Bestselling author and humorist Dan Alatorre brings us into his living room for funny and delightful stories about the real meaning of fatherhood and parenting. "Savvy" is the nickname of his daughter, and "Savvy Stories" is a fun filled romp through the early years of having a baby. These stories will have you chuckling at the universal message of bringing up baby - and watching her take over the house! Equal parts funny and touching, Savvy Stories shows you why all kids are special. After all, "the beauty of children is in the magic they see everywhere; the beauty of parenthood is seeing it with them." Not a bumbling TV sitcom stooge, the Dad in this book is a smart, kind, loving man who is constantly amazed at his daughter, something every dad should be (but, sadly, many are not).

You will laugh and cry, sometimes on the same page, and you will see yourself 100 times over in this book. Savvy Stories has been acclaimed as required reading for parents, for its hilarious and heartwarming insights. Its lessons are deep and apply to every family, everywhere, because what makes Savvy special is what makes all children special. We just have to look.

“5 STARS! A MUST READ!
“5 stars, Excellent book! “Savvy Stories” should be on everyone's "must read" list.”
Susan B., Columbus, Ohio

Enjoy this look at childhood's lost, magical moments, viewed through the heart of a father. Crawling, walking, play dates, hopscotch, hibiscuses, potty training, princess dresses, gymnastics classes... and Baby Dolphins - The whole wide world of her questions and his answers. This book will have you falling in love with your children all over again.

In English, with my very poor translation to follow:

Dan Alatorre was born in Hamilton, Ohio, and (after a frustrating year or so of pretending to be an engineering technology student at the University of Dayton) transferred to the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. A few years later, after taking a sample Mensa test in Playboy magazine, he sat for a supervised Mensa exam, passed, and became a member of Mensa. Thusly inspired, he went on to earn an MBA from Tampa College.

Dan was just a normal guy doing normal things until he and his wife were blessed with a baby when he was about 47 years old. Some will argue he was never a normal guy, but nobody will argue that the addition of a bouncing baby girl changed his life. Savannah and her Mommy, her Daddy, her dog Buddy and her cat Kitty all live together in Lutz, Florida, next door to Tampa.

My writing is done in a simple, plain spoken approach, and I try to put the reader right in the room with me.

What people have found interesting about my stuff - at least what they've told me - is that it's interesting to hear all this from the dad's point of view, and not as a bumbling TV sitcom dad, but as a real, thoughtful, functioning human being. My wife had to stop reading my stories because she would cry (in a good way, I think) and her friends who would read it would cry...

It became my goal to have everyone I know cry first thing every morning. Or laugh; I could go either way.

There is a lot of fun stuff in this book and I think you will be touched by it. You'll re-live memories and remember things that you never thought that you knew. I tell folks that my kid isn't any funnier or more unique than anybody else's kid; ALL kids do these things. I just wrote them down. And you'll know what I mean by the end of chapter 3.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Wonderful story of father and daughter, traversing babyhood together 1 mars 2014

I found this story made me quite nostalgic. My daughter will be six in May and all the moments of babyhood are long past. Thank goodness I wrote a lot of stuff down and took lots of pictures and videos. Still, not quite the same. Dan's book made me realize just how much I took for granted at that age and how fast the time does fly. I found myself laughing at times and cringing at others. The story of Savvy's first 'uh oh' word made me chuckle. The snake story made me cringe. I really, really hate snakes. So, I was right there with Michele, whacking beast over and over until it was unrecognizable. That would totally be me. I found Dan's story very touching and was reminded of times I had watched my own husband and daughter interact at that age. Five years later and they still have a really strong bond. I envision this for Dan and Savvy. I really love how he took advantage of the late night feedings to spend extra time with his little girl. As a mom of a child who didn't nurse well, I remember those late night feedings. Sometimes I dreaded them, because they were supposed to be an hour apart (according to my mid-wife, this was what I had to do because my daughter was losing weight: wake my sleeping baby up every hour on the hour and nurse, whether my baby was up for it or not) and my daughter would take 45 minutes to feed. That leaves you with fifteen minutes in between feedings. So, I could definitely relate to the whole, needing sleep thing. And naps. Oh, I loved naps. I learned early on that housework came secondary to my sanity. That might explain why I'm such a bad housekeeper today.

Anyway, so I really enjoyed this book. The beautiful relationship between father and daughter and the teamwork demonstrated by both Dan and Michele in raising this little blessing, was incredibly heart-warming. I look forward to reading the next books and have already spent many a late night reading this one and The Long Cutie. The reason this book got a four star rating and not a five is twofold. First, Amazon wouldn't let me give a 4.5. This is what I really felt the book deserved at this point. Second, this book needs a lot of editing, first to be more professional and second, to be easier to read. When this book is edited fully, I anticipate being able to up this rating to a five star.

All in all, a great book. Wonderful stories and very relatable.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Sharp, Funny and Entertaining! 9 janvier 2015

I’ve read several of Dan Alatorre’s books and found them to be consistently sharp, funny and entertaining. But, Savvy Stories: Funny Things I Learned From My Daughter was all of those things and so much more. It was also a touching, heartwarming, gut-wrenching emotional roller coaster ride that I never wanted to end. Given the book’s length, I thought it might take me several days to read. But every time I put it down, it sucked me right back in. I stayed up most of last night finishing it. Despite not having children, I could easily relate to the comical happenings that surround child birth and continue on into those first couple of years. My baby brother came along when I was nine years old—plenty old enough to recall similar situations reflected in Dan’s book. I suspect that as his daughter continues to grow and blossom, he will have unlimited comical fodder to fill many, many more books. And I look forward to reading them all.

Fans of Dan Alatorre have come to expect a level of humor that is consistant and hilarious. Just add heartwarming and nostalgic to the mix and you have the recipe for his latest work, Savy Stories.

Told from the point of view of a new 'older' father, we get the blow-by-blow of his daughter Savvy's early years starting with the delivery room to the mistakes, the breakthoughs and the smells. Most of all, the smallest of precious moments that a parent wishes they could preserve forever and shout to the world. (I know you have been there too.)

The author takes this time to create a tale of never forgotten memories and finally gets to shout it to the world. Prepare for some tearful moments that will tug at you as a familiar scene takes you back to your own precious moments.
